Wanted - knitted square patterns

I've decided to use up my huge stash of wool as I have so little room in my house! So would like to make a knitted blanket.

Any suggestions for some nice designs? I will probably stick to stocking stitch because of the variety of colours - but am on the lookout for interesting designs.

Thank you!

The Lizard Ridge one is stunning but did the yarn not cost £££££ pruni?

You know! Cotton dk. Am cheapskate!
Also, much of knitting is for dcs who would marmalise fine designer yarn in a trice, plus whinge about it being fluffy...so, it has to be smooth and readily washable.

Ceolas, book arrived today

(OK in the scheme of things it didn't have that far to come, but even so ... !!!!

It is lovely! I have picked out a few designs that I am going to use.

daleks, you are right about the limited colour range in the oddball one - I don't think mine will have the same ... er ... cohesiveness!! However I was thinking I might (at some point) buy a batch of one colour to make the border so that it is well framed.

I am currently just finishing this square (first time at doing that kind of square, unfortunately mine isn't quite as neat!). I made this one first.

Marina, at you printing them out at work!!! I was so tempted to print them all out, but since my laptop sits on the little side table next to my knitting bag, I felt I should just work off the computer and save a tree or too !

Glad it arrived Miaou (and that I didn't fork out for 1st class! )

Keep us posted.

Miaou · 11/04/2007 14:19

Our post is bizarre, ceolas. I have known first class to take over a week . First or second seems to have no impact here (particularly when it gets routed via Mull - er, logical - NOT)!!

Dd1 has named the blanket "mishmosh" and has already claimed it for her bed!!

Will keep this thread updated with progress!! [smile}

OK - question. I am now doing this square - can anyone tell me what "duplicate stitch" is please? Is that like swiss darning?

duplicate stitch .

You learn something new every day!

Miaou · 11/04/2007 19:55

ah yes, what I would call swiss darning! thanks ceolas!

Update - I have now done this one and just finishing this one this last week, plus a self-patterned one from ceolas's book. I am now going to attempt cabling for the first time! That last square I linked to was my first attempt at making bobbles and though they aren't brilliant I am quite pleased with my first effort

There are lots of fab self-patterned squares in that book Ceolas! I got quite a lot of almost complete balls of wool so I shall be using a lot of designs from your book to use those up.

Not counted up but I think I've done about 6 or 7 squares now (only another 40 or so to do )

lovely choices Miaou - you will have to post pictures of the actual ones you have knitted for your public!

ceolas · 26/04/2007 10:31

Just found this again. Well done you!

Absolutely no hurry for the book back, btw, I have loads to be getting on with

Miaou · 13/05/2007 22:31

Hellooooo you knitty lot ...

Update on the blanket - lost count of how many squares I have done now!! Am currently doing this one which looks very good.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any more intarsia designs, preferably that will fit into a 47 st x 63 rows square? I've picked up a few from a lovely knitting book I got from the library but had to give it back as it was embarrassingly overdue ! Have got Ceolas's lovely book which has lots of ideas in but would like some more "picture" squares too

Thank yoooo!
