Had a glance at the flyer at a friend's place, next week they have packs of wool, all under £1/ball, some acrylic, some cotton, some eyelash maybe, some varieaged.

Oh, and some crochet stuff, and some sewing stuff, and even some card-making stuff I think.

They do art supplies reasonably often, we are forever buying big pads of paper. Well, I say 'forever', we almost never go ...

I don't pass by any of our local branches.
I think we are getting one on our high street soon, and I have just changed my views from to

Oh, it's chavalicious, it really is. But some of the food is actually nice - it's sort of second-rate European food, but it is actual European food, and some of it is reasonably nice.

And the random specials are very random but often quite special.

bother - I got all hopeful about riding hats - but it is literally numnahs and headcollars.

I may have to start going (and stop laughing at my mother for going!)

TooTicky · 07/03/2007 21:23

neither of the ones near us seem to be having any

Nockney · 07/03/2007 21:24

TooTicky, they're not covering next Thursday's specials yet on the website, at least they weren't, earlier today. I could only see now, Thursday, and next Monday.

Ah, maybe okay then

cremolafoam · 07/03/2007 21:31

oh goody

Nockney · 07/03/2007 22:10

Ahem. Where is the non weirdy aisle at Lidl, pray tell?

ta da!

BethAndHerBrood · 08/03/2007 18:15

What do you think the sewing machine will be like? Any good?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 08/03/2007 18:20

cool. and i love the kids cooking utensils!

Fillyjonk · 08/03/2007 18:26

hmmm

not massively impressed tbh, sorry

its all old lady shades

TooTicky · 08/03/2007 20:15

Mind you, you do have to wonder why it is cheap. Somebody is probably being exploited

RubberDuck · 08/03/2007 20:16

Oooo... I am tempted by that sewing machine. I've been toying with getting one (need to recover the dining room chairs, for one) but do you think it would be the sort that would break if you breathed on it wrong? Can't find a review anywhere on the web.

Nockney · 09/03/2007 10:14

My friend's sister bought one and was happy with it, from what she said. Sorry it's a third-hand review, but it's all I've got. I doubt it's an excellent sewing machine.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the Lidl which opened just down the road from us recently:

£12.99 vidal sassoon hair straighteners
organic veg
good colouring pencils/felt tips for children, v cheap

and now wool

LieselVentouse · 15/03/2007 10:48

Im v. sad I had this on my calendar at work so I wouldnt forget

Marina · 15/03/2007 10:51

I am really starting to look forward to the one supposedly opening near us soon.
Not soon enough for wool promo though so I will be hoofing it off to one of the other local ones at the weekend.
I bet the Sarf London ones won't bother with organic veg though bundy

bundle · 15/03/2007 10:57

it's weird marina, there's quite a good selection and I sometimes pop in to supplement my organic box. ours is on seven sisters rd, which is urban hell, and mostly packed with e-number drinks and odd german confectionery. and the cheapest wine i've ever seen

expatinscotland · 15/03/2007 15:49

I scored some of the multi-coloured cotton yarn for part of MIL's mother's day pressie.

It's LOVELY!

Also a little craft kit so DD1 can help me make some Easter deccies.

cremolafoam · 15/03/2007 15:52

am so annoyed - NO WOOL in our Lidls( i went to two) just gardening stuff and sailing jackets.

Marina · 15/03/2007 15:52

Was the place being ransacked by frenzied knitters expat?

expatinscotland · 15/03/2007 15:59

No, luckily not! It's a Lidl in a student area not known for many knitters.

There's another near our flat that I might visit to see if there's any other yarn she might fancy.

She's diabetic, so chocolate gifts at Mother's Day and Easter are out.
