Knitting/crochet storage

Where do you all keep your yarns and needles and hooks? Mine are currently stuffed into a drawstring bag that resembles my PE kit bag from primary school. I just want to feel a bit more organised.

What do you use?

My mil and sil bought be a yarn bin and a bag to store my knitting and crocheting in for Christmas from john lewis. I'm rediculously excited about organising my bags of crasft stuff :)

I use a big plastic tubs with a lid that I slide under a side table in my sitting room but tbh it's bulging at the seams at the moment! I'd love something better.

I have just cleared out a set of bedroom drawers . ( Finally sorted out the spare bedroom ) My wool stash is all sorted into colours /weights now. Patterns /books all together on top in magazine /document holders
Work in progress ( next to my chair) is in a lovely bag my DH bought me some years ago. It is actually a small weekend bag, but totally works ! He put a lot of thought into what would work, and it doesn't fall over as it has a solid base .

I keep yarn in a nice hat box (it's cream with gold butterflies in) which looks good when it's stashed under one of our IKEA armchairs.

Needles are in a large jar in my craft corner (pic). The craft corner does drive DH to distraction a little, as it's not always tidy... But there you go.

I love the craft corner! I keep trying to turn our box room into a craft room, but boringly DH thinks it needs to be a study.

I've been looking at bags bookbook - there are some lovely storage bags out there but the insides are one big section and I think it needs to be more like those wine bags you get from the supermarket, lots of sections inside!

I used to have the spare room as a craft room! But then the DC got bigger and didn't want to share a room any more, so I had to relinquish.

I'm biding my time for when they leave home...

I keep yarn in my 3 drawer bedside table. I've just been gifted a lovely wicker shopping basket which I'm going to use to 'display' yarn in too (much to dp's disgust!)

Hooks and needles are in a cheap clear pencil case so I can see what I'm after

If I'm out and about in take a project with me in a Woolly Hugs bag 😍

Lemonwood - if you sew, you could make an inner for one?
My sewing stuff ( machine, box, material) is another matter altogether
my DH must have been good . It is fancy tbh - it has 2 zipped compartments inside, then a biggish zip compartment on the outside.
The main section holds the work and wool I am using on the current project . At the bottom I do have two solid, flat knitting needle cases and a small sewing case in there too.....
I think it all depends on what works for you !

I am aghast at some of you fitting your yarn in a hat box!

I have a load of plastic tubs in the loft containing my stash. I've catalogued it on Ravelry so I know what is there also I can pick a yarn without having to go into the loft to look. There are still some stray boxes waiting to be sorted and they are mostly top of my wardrobe. I have a goal of working through it and not purchasing any more yarn unless I need a specific one for a specific project.

WIPs are in drawstring bags in a basket that was a John Lewis hamper. Hooks are never where I want them to be but are meant to be in a pencil case or in the drawstring bag with the project they're being used for.

haha! Mine is quite a big set of drawers - it needs to be :) My wool was in Really Useful plastic boxes in the loft for years , but until we got some proper loft steps, I had to ask DH to get them down. A right faff. Now I can just rootle around - I also have my dear late Mums wool stash as well- so I have most colours/weights. (Mind you I was finishing off a tea cosy with a bunch of flowers on the top last week , and really didn't have a decent green for the leaves ! )
I cannot resist buying wool though - am off today to one of my favourite shops - am going to look at baby wool to make jacket/hat/mittens for a present. So I will no doubt end up with more than I need

I've got shot of lots of yarn that I know I'll never use (cheap stuff I started out with , awful colours etc) - tool it to work and taught my big burly 16+ students to make pompom garlands so I've only got nicer stuff left.

I have loads of Really Useful Boxes - a tower for yarn, long one for needles and crochet hooks, little one for stitch markers, another little one for sewing needles and one for random bits like knitting gauge, cable needle, pom pom makers

I love how organised it all is. Just wish I had the room for a little craft corner because it's just shoved next to the sofa at the minute! But it's probably a good thing that I don't have more room for yarn...

I love really useful boxes. Have just found this. Also now looking for a bag so projects can become portable. Not telling DH yet - "it's easier to get forgiveness than permission"

Would use those drawers to colour code yarn - so need a clear drawer, a green drawer and a dark drawer too.

At present I have a 2x2 IKEA storage unit in the cupboard under the stairs and a footstool/ottoman in the living room for my yarn and a bag with my current project and hooks and needles down the side of my sofa. My button tins and good scissors are in a little chest of drawers next to my sofa and I have a little case with little scissors and darning needles that sits on top of the chest.

If I go out and about I like to take my work in a bag like this which was a present from (adult) DD1.

I am waiting for said adult DD1 to get a place of her own at which point I will fill her drawers and wardrobes with wool, wool and more wool

The really useful website has a "build your own" bit for storage towers. I may need someone to hide my wallet.

Yarn/fabriv in various boxes/bags under bed and cupboard under stairs. Needles and crochet hooks in jugs on display (find jugs shout buy me as much as yarn/fabric does ). Knitting WIPs in wicker basket, plus socks on go in handbag, crochet WIP in little hessian chutney bag from english heritage and Sewing WIPs get dumped in bag until have time to finish them.

Very jealous of those with craft corner and completely green with envy if you have a craft room.

This is a lifetime's collection so I do have quite a bit of stuff.
Yarn - Ikea Kallax unit and also a Lloyd Loom blanket box for odd balls
Needles, hooks, buttons etc - Ikea Moppe drawers. Jars and vases are also good if you have somewhere to display them.
Patterns - Ikea metal A4 drawer unit
Books - shelves obviously
Work in progress - floor standing bag plus various tote bags.

A3 ziplock bags from Lakeland are good for holding yarn so you can see the contents.

Calico tote bags or any bag that's long enough and ideally holds its shape are good.

If you can sew there are endless possibilities of various roll-up storage, fabric boxes, tote bags etc.

Where did you find the coloured boxes, Lemon? It looks like what I need.

They are Really Useful Boxes Megatherium - I have them in clear, green, pink, purple. They come in loads of sizes too, that stack :) They have a website, but I used to get mine from Staples when they were on offer
