Thought you might like to know that The Guardian are doing a one off craft guide this Saturday Feb 3rd, which includes advice and craft projects for dressmaking, soft furnishings, embroidery, knitting, felting, making and revamping furniture and accessories for the home, garden crafts, recycling and craft projects for children.

Kids projects include making a glove monster - a good starter project for small craftsters, making a living willow teepee, tutu and dressing up tiara, a classic kite fido sock puppet.

Thankyou hackneyknittingclub, that's helpful, although I quail at the prospect of my two making a living willow teepee - blasted stump more like!

kickassangel · 01/02/2007 10:35

thanks, will have to buy that

roseylea · 01/02/2007 10:40

Thank you for that! I'm a bit of a dabbler myself.

My sewing machine is sadly neglected and even getting a bit dusty - it'd be good to have a bit of inspiration!

Fubsy · 01/02/2007 23:11

Id love a living willow teepee - theres a whole living house in a park where my friend lives - kids love it.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2007 12:13

I'd love to build a living willow teepee!!

PeachyClair · 02/02/2007 12:22

Wow will get that- thanks boys will love the teepee, they play on a farm that grows willow in the summer

Tatties · 03/02/2007 13:00

I was just about to start a thread on this! It's great, loads of ideas and websites in it.

filthymindedvixen · 03/02/2007 13:12

does anyone know how much willow wands might be to buy? Or can I just go down the river with a hacksaw...?

Fillyjonk · 03/02/2007 20:07

I did find one stockist but it was £90 for a kit

whcih is not my idea of "inexpensive"

I'm determined to make one, even if I did forget to go and buy the sodding paper It'll be fab down the end of our garden with the climbing frame ...

kickassangel · 04/02/2007 15:00

i do willow making courses a couple of times a year, and when i suggested a children's b.day party, where the kids made a willow teepee as their activity dh & friends told me i was poncy! still think it's a brilliant idea, particulary as we live in fenland with willow galore.
willow is difficult to do at home - bundles can measure up to 8 feet long, and you have to soak them for a week before using them. you also need to work in cool, damp conditions if it's intricate work (e.g. baskets).

kickassangel · 04/02/2007 15:03

fillyjonk - where do you live? round here, the national trust would probably be the best place to fing willow, as they own large swathes of land where it grows. or look through your yellow pages for a local supplier - a lot of willow weavers are traditionalists & won't have web sites etc. there's an old polish guy near us, who just has a sign by his driveway, but does moses baskets etc to order.

If anyone missed buying the Guardian, I'll happily send my copy on to anyone who wants it.

Whizzz · 04/02/2007 16:16

I'd love a copy if you don't mind !

Whizzz · 04/02/2007 16:21

look here for links !

Whizzz · 04/02/2007 16:24

actually I don't think you need the mag with those links!

MagicGenie · 04/02/2007 16:26

Aha - sorry - didn't realise it was online

strangefruit · 04/02/2007 21:28

I went to three different shops to try and find it, ended up having to ask dh to find it, he got the last one in the supermarket, it is good ( in a non-craft type person's humble opinion)

I really fancy the willow teepee thing, it was good to read how people got on with their tasks.

Cloudhopper · 04/02/2007 21:34

Absolutely gutted because I only remembered late in the day and there were none left!

But thank you so much for the links which I will print out.

redclover79 · 05/02/2007 13:08

Magicgenie- I went out and bought the paper, sat down to look at it at breakfast this morning, and the craft supplement was missing!!!
Do you still have your copy?! My printer is out of action too so I can't even print it out from the link!!!

Dinosaur · 05/02/2007 13:09

Cloudhopper · 05/02/2007 13:11

Dinosaur - I can't CAT you but I would love it. My email is goingquitelymad @yahoo co uk (without all the spaces) - it would save me printing it all out!
