Texere yarns - any good? Does their cotton knit up well?

Am looking for cotton on cones so that I can try out my knitting machine (which dh bought for me for my birthday in July and it's still in its box!). Texere yarns looks the cheapest and best choice and I have knitted a jumper (by hand) with their stuff a few years ago - however I seem to remember the colour ran in the red bit .

Have you used them? Are they good/reliable? Any particular recommendations (about their stuff or another company's?)

TIA

rofl marina, I did wonder for a second

Actually, I was thinking just now of doing stripes/two colours so that will kind of answer the dilemma really

Can I just say I like this thread Have only bought mohair from them though, so can't comment on the cotton. I did have a very funny phone conversation with one of the women there who treated me to an impression of the people who shop there going "ee, you can get it much cheaper at Ilkley market"

That has got to be Christine. She is a wag of the old-fashioned, non botoxed, non-footballing variety...
I have some stuff to send you O tamum

Mitchell and Kenyon really enthralling IMO Fio (maybe that makes us both a bit strange).
I think you might also like Silent Britain, a fabulous Matthew Sweet documentary about the early days of British cinema. The HAIR! The clothes!
Have you seen Hindle Wakes?

ooooh is that the silent films? They are just fab aren't they? We watched them when they were on TV a few years back and were just spellbound.

Silent Britain
Can't find a currently available copy of Hindle Wakes but it is a socially and sexually progressive film about the relationship between the mill-owner's son and one of the mill girls, while they are both on Wakes Week in Blackpool. Based on a stage play. Really stunning.

bloody hell hindle wakes, that takes me back

tamum, do you need any more squares??

tamum · 30/01/2007 23:26

tamum · 30/01/2007 23:27

Ds is poorly? Hope he is better soon. I have doubled our DVD stock in 12 months thanks to specials like that

OK another question about Texere yarns ... dd1 has decided she wants a pale blue and white striped sweater - and of course Provence doesn't come in white - so which one would I use? Machine washing is a must. I am confuuuuuused ....

Pretty please?

The Kool Kotton has the right colours, doesn't it, but it's got acrylic in it. I haven't knitted with Texere cotton, sorry! Patons Cotton Rich is cheap if you can get it, and though it's also mixed cotton/acrylic it's actually quite nice to kit with.

Miaou · 01/02/2007 21:22

Thanks Tamum - I'm after using texere because it comes on cones and I want to try out my knitting machine! Thanks for the suggestions though
