KNITTING LADIES WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!

chubbleigh · 14/01/2007 20:43

If any of you fancy a knitting project keep your knees warm on cold winter nights in front of the telly..... my mum and her local branch of the Mothers Union are trying to turn out some cot blankets for the local neo-natal units here in Devon, they are in desperate need of them. It is very easy, either knit or crochet a 18" or 22" square, and that is it, no need for stitching together etc. Any colour accepted, add a pattern or a strip if you so desire, what ever you feel able to do.

If you can help please let me know on this thread.

Come on Twiglett, what are you going to do when you have finished that groovy scarf? What about Marina and Hoxton and Cockney?

Where are you?

chubbleigh · 14/01/2007 22:34

Chubbleigh .. I'm sorry I can't commit to help but as I'm a novice I'm really slow and DD wants a scarf after DS and then I have 4 pregnant friends that I am hoping to knit blankets for

bumping for others

wurlywurly · 15/01/2007 09:26

chubbleigh are you in any rush for the sqaures as i have loads on my knitting list at the moment.

Marina · 15/01/2007 09:47

Chubbleigh, after the fab help you gave me and the other blanketeers that time (the blanket has been handed over, did you see -just before Xmas and she is thrilled with it) please count me in. I have something else urgent on the needles till next week and can then send you a square .
What yarn is preferred please? I have loads of cotton dk but no washable baby yarn at the mo - but can get some.

Tatties · 15/01/2007 13:51

Oh yes, tell me what's the best yarn to use

wurlywurly · 15/01/2007 19:13

chubbleigh have put my cardigan on hold and am currently knitting my square for you. will let you know when its done.

wurlywurly · 15/01/2007 20:49

not a happy bunny now, bloody plastic neddles that i was using just snapped so the half a sqaure i had done has all unravelled in the middle so have to start again. ggrrrrr

chubbleigh · 15/01/2007 23:28

Wurly and Marina, thanks so much for offering to help, there is no limit on time as it is an ongoing thing. Cotton is fine as is double knitting or even 4ply. I think it is a good easy project for idle moments, doesn't have to be fancy, no making up etc.

Sorry Chubbliegh I can't know but thought I would bump this for you.

Bowbelles · 16/01/2007 15:39

Sorry for typo - meant to say "can't knit" I think "know" is a cross between knit and sew!

Jessajam · 16/01/2007 15:41

I will see if I can do a square...will not be a piece of art, but should work for baby-warming!!

Tatties · 17/01/2007 11:21

I have started...

chubbleigh · 18/01/2007 23:51

Thank you Jessajam, still waiting for Hoxton and Cockney to see this, plus all the other knitters out there.

Actually I am going to have a go a crochet one. Have told my Mum it is about time she taught me to crochet so starting with something easy.

I have just looked at a ball of double knitting and the tension information says 22 stitches and 30 rows makes a 10cm square and you call 18"=45cm then I am making it 98 stitches and 125 rows. I haven't started yet so that is just a quick calculation. Might need to do a bit of pattern such as moss stitch around the edges to make it lay flat.

chubbleigh, I have a rather big project on my plate just now, but will do a square when that's done and dusted.

pudding77 · 23/01/2007 09:48

Chubbleigh, is it too late to join in? I'm a beginner knitter and looking for some simple projects to do so this would be ideal! Can't say how long it will take me though!

Tatties · 23/01/2007 13:59

I am slowly getting there! Might take another week or so as my blanket will involve some sewing (needles not long enough to do the full square in one go...)

leggylil · 24/01/2007 16:38

Hi would love to help....am a bit of a novice but I am sure I can manage a square just so i am clear wat size needles would be best to use? as I only have 3.5mm/4.mm and what wool would be best?

MelissaM · 24/01/2007 16:44

I'm a novice too but will give it a go. Not sure how long it will take, so it's a good job you're not in a hurry...
