I am knitting a scarf for DS's 6th birthday in february .. he is so chuffed he has told all his class

it is an alien illusion scarf .. now you see it, now you don't

and it bloody works .. there's 4 photos so click back

ok, I've made 1 mistake, but I can live with it cos its only the 3rd thing I've ever knitted in my life

Skribble · 14/01/2007 19:51

cool I wondered what you were on about .

wurlywurly · 14/01/2007 19:52

oh that is so clever.

poppiesinaline · 14/01/2007 20:14

wow.. I would be really chuffed with that. How clever is that!

Skribble · 14/01/2007 20:19

I can;'t knit but I have a strange urge to ask for the pattern, could get DS to knit it himself .

filthymindedvixen · 14/01/2007 20:21

It looks brilliant .
I've asked you once and I'll ask you again - what wool did you get for this in the end? Ds is going to want one of these, I am sure.

unknownrebelbang · 14/01/2007 20:24

That is fab.

Whizzz · 14/01/2007 20:30

thats really good !! Well done you !

Twiglett · 14/01/2007 20:30

Marina .. look at me .. I'm in Arts & Crafts

I gave the woman in the shop in Tooting Bec the book .. lovely older knitting lady .. and she gave me the wool .. now the original is in 100% wool .. but this one seems to be 100% acrylic .. I don't know if that's a fundamental error but knowing DS it'll probably be lost in 2 mins anyway and I can make the next one in wool (although its taken me a week to do half of it and that's at least 2 - 4 hours a day .. eek)

Blimey, well done- that's so effective. Posting on A&C at last I see

Marina · 14/01/2007 20:32

Hmm. Was wondering whether the same effect could be obtained using cotton yarn, as ds will not wear the blooming thing if made in "scratchy" wool. I think I will give acrylic a whirl too, thanks for that. It looks really impressive. Give yourself a huge uncool arts and crafts pat on the back

Twiglett · 14/01/2007 20:38

Is wool scratchy then? DS has very sensitive neck

OP posts:
tamum · 14/01/2007 20:41

Merino wool is the least scratchy, I think. I would have thought it would work in cotton, wouldn't it?

Marina · 14/01/2007 20:42

Less so than in years gone by - King Cole "Anti-Tickle" merino is excellent, but a good smooth acrylic will also not scratch and as you say, will wash well.
Ds spurned a superb lambswool rollneck from Blooming Marvellous when four and still won't wear anything woolly and high-necked.

Marina · 14/01/2007 20:42

You have answered my unexpressed question there - the effect is so marked in Twig's snaps I was wondering whether cotton dk would work as well.

DimpledThighs · 14/01/2007 20:50

twiglet - that is so cool - all his friends will be and it is so sweet that he is really proud. How lovely.

lionheart · 14/01/2007 20:54

That is lovely (how does it feel now your secret is out?)

Tatties · 14/01/2007 22:07

That's excellent Twiglett

Skribble · 15/01/2007 00:53

How much for you to knit one for my DS?

sunnywong · 15/01/2007 01:23

nice even tension!

Jelley · 15/01/2007 07:08

That is brilliant. It's making me want to try knitting.
