Who of us is left? So many seem to have gone, but there might be some newbies around (Peachy waves hopefully).

Do we want to organse something? happy to do it, if any interest, really need to get motivated again.

I think so, yes. Too complex otherwise I think.

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 13/01/2007 18:49

well

if you lot are getting colour photos while I have to slum it with knitting in shades of grey, then I will deffo be putting sparkly silver in. so ner.

i think it fairly self evident that you can have rights w/o responsibilites. whether you should or not, or whether rights are merely another word for responsibilities, is where DWM philosophers come in, I suspect. Oh and John Holt wrth cwrs.

Pixiefish · 13/01/2007 18:54

Fillyjonk- did I miss something?

Mine'll probably be a card as I don't really want to scrap any piccies and have them on the yahoo.

Can I use photobucket to host mine- I don't like the yahoo thing as I always get lost in it as there's so much stuff there

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 18:56

Ah.... but those repsonsibilities- kids have rights, the planet theoretically ahs rights, animals are said to have right.....

My main theorem is that rights set in legal stone are the direct responsibility of the Government who then legislate to pass them on; moral rights are more complex, but involve direct transactions at different levels- kids have rights because they will be the adults of the future at which point they willa ccept responsibilities in turn; the planet ahve rights because the actual transdaction is wuith ourselves- its our homeland etc etc etc.

I reckon, a D at best.

Oh and yeah silver is fine LOL!

Pixie, it might be good idea to let AQ have a pic just fro the sake of onclusion to pop on yahoo, but feel free to link to a proper host at photobucket

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 13/01/2007 19:16

am trying to get head round transaction theory.

I seem to recall reading hannah arent on this when i did my degree but i possibly made that up.

Pixiefish · 13/01/2007 19:21

Don't reallyw ant stuff on yahoo as I can never find it to remove it. Also got told off for having too many pics on there once (didn't actually have many lol)

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 19:23

Hannha? Can I have ref if you ahev one? (whats your degree in?)

Coz I made it up as I went along, and if theres references I'd be much better graded LOL!

Pixie, that's fine.

lol

technically its in religious studies. mainly dead languages but...i did some philosophy type courses also. religious approaches to the environment was fun. i did some philosophy of the holocaust stuff also.

then law conversion.

could you perhaps concentrate on one example of rights/responsibilites? are you in essence talking about a sort of rousseauean social contract? though don't think rousseau would much like out legal system, tbh...(oh...what about caselaw there, btw? Most of waht you do at law school is caselaw, ie the tweeking that public school educated judges (in the main) have put on things)

several writers have argued that you need responsibilty for rights but in the main they tend to be saying that to enjoy rights you need independence, you can't have independence without a true recognition of your responsiblities etc.

hmm this takes me back!

I've got an idea for severl small things on a theme, is that ok? i will be mixing knitting, embroidery, cards etc, but together it sums up 'childhood'. everyone happy with that, or is it cheating?

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 19:44

MInes RE and philosphy too, with ethics. Except none of these names mean anything to me (thank gos for wilkipaedia) becasue frankly the Philosophy side is poorly taught, ie not at all. RE is fab though, some good Professors.

am grumpy that it is not being taught properly

i really enjoyed my degree.

and ethics should, at the least, give you some long sounding names to chuck at people in the pub.

hmmm

where is it? I know its newport/caerleon or somewhere round there but thats it.

mine was edinburgh. It was good. also we shared a building with the scottish parliament which was rather nice.

Whizzz · 13/01/2007 19:49

I've added your new name to the title

(very cute Califrau!)

Fillyjonk · 13/01/2007 19:50

oooh thats rather cool, cf

i do like that photo. those are proper wellies...

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 19:54

Its Caerleon, Newport Uni. Its a good degree in that it is focussed on the RE side, and our Profs are genuine out there experts, as oposed to fusty academics. Which is great, esp. as we get to do Jainism which is quite rare I believe (we do it as an entire module- actually I rpefer the Western ones but that's just me, that's my dissertation tho- old and new ytestament theories on slavery).

I've only missed 1 ethcs lecture, we've done scruton / singer, and that seems to be it. Propoer philosophy comes next year (yr 3) which is odd. We do people like scheliermacjeher, Nietsche in Western themes though.

So any names.... LOL!

lol at fusty academics

yes edinburgh is a bit...fusty.... the library had stained glass windows and everything.

ack dunno i always avoided ethics like the plague tbh. there are lots of philosophers around though...nqc springs to mind. put out a call!

Fubsy · 13/01/2007 21:27

Thinking, thinking....... Thank goodness we can use a colour photo; I was worried Id have to go sepia or something!

Fubsy · 13/01/2007 21:29

By the way, this thread is getting a bit intellekchewell you no.

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 22:09

Oi I fancied sepia!

Intelectual? Moi? (PEachy si rpeening as Dh challneged her to take the IQ test and beat him, she did LOL)

poppiesinaline · 14/01/2007 10:48

I was kind of focused but now reading this thread my brain is spinning and whirring!!

poppiesinaline · 14/01/2007 11:33

so, if I have a picture that is 'grey', I can't then back it with say.. pink? this is really tricky.

PeachyClair · 14/01/2007 11:35

A grey photo? yes, thats OK. the photo colour is negligible, but you'd have to take pinks as your second colour them, iyswim? Which frankly is a good colour to choose, loads of variation.
