Book character costume - post suggestions here please

My DS school is having a sponsored event where they have to dress up as their favourite character from a book. It's on Thursday and I'm running low on inspiration. So come on girls any ideas?

brown trousers, yellow long sleeve shirt, blue waistcoat/tank top (cut out of t shirt if need be. Red scarf round neck, draw some glasses and go as little cook.

I hate all this crap. What on earth has fancy dress got to do with education? My dd absolutely loves books but hates fancy dress (shy). It's just more stupid pressure on parents IMO.

I usually love all this and am normally full of ideas. But I've been out the full weekend and am busy Tuesday so will have very little time. i thought of the Saucepan man or Wally from Where's Wally. He's 6 and a redhead so ron weasley was another possibility. it's just chasing up stuff to make it with that will be the problem! But great ideas girls keep em coming!!

Captain Hook was very popular when ds's school did this. My ds went as Peter Pan (got an outfit from ebay, but it was his end of year present as well).
Has no one suggested Biff, Chip or Kipper yet -

A six year old red headed boy can only be Ginger from Just William. Scruffy him up, old school tie, cap and blazer with school badge. Thick long grey socks.

I still read the occasional Just William now to cheer me up - fantastic stuff!

I did my (tall) 5 year old as Rupert the bear.
Found a red jumper,tartan scarf and yellow cords (on which I drew a check pattern) in charity shop.
Borrowed my leather backpack,wore ears I made on an old headband and voila!

I think I've decided on The Saucepan Man as I have raided both my DS's toy kitchen and my nephews and have also asked the girls at work to root about for plastic saucepans. Will just tie them onto an old sweatshirt and jeans. With more time and more notice I could probably have had great fun with a Ron Weasley costume! Wally would have involved me painting stripes on one of his white tops and they all still fit quite well so it would have been a waste. My DS is quite happy as he loved The Faraway Tree stories and has been sitting tonight making up nonsense rhymes to sing at school. It's a holiday weekend for us - September weekend Friday & Monday off - so it should be a fun day for them!

But did paint a lovely mental image of my DS in the frilly robes!! He's got just the right hair for it too!! ( Maybe halloween?)

oh why do schools do this!??? we have a pirate day and my ds does not want to do it! on book days my ds(12) always dressed in football gear and made up some book or other it could be from.

southeastaastra- does your son really hate these days? Why? Is it the dressing up or the change of routine. I'm a teacher and I'm just interested. My school don't do anything like this at all! Not even Halloween! However my son is really excited about a fun day and seeing his teachers being silly and dressing up. The prospect of no work in the afternoon is also proving attractive!!

My son hates them - because of the change in routine - we had 4 non-uniform days in the last school year, which was 3 too many in my opinion. I would have been happier with just 1 day, and that in the summer term (but then I have a child who gets very upset, angry and awful if routine is disrupted).

hate hate hate book character days - last week ours had to go in as characters from a Roald Dahl book. My dd wanted to be Verrucca Salt and go in dressed in johdpurs and riding hat (which we already had thankfully)

She also wanted a riding crop (which we don't have), eventually manged to find one in Anne Summers

pain in the a**e
