Wool/yarn addiction

Purlywhites · 27/04/2013 20:48

I haven't been knitting long but I LOVe knitting flowers and crafty bits.
I can't stop buying wool (£1-2 here and there) I spend around £20-30 per month.
My new found hobby is taking over!
Is anyone else a compulsive wool purchaser? No one warned me buying wool would become an obsession!

I have a biiig carrier bag full of fleece in the cupboard - I go to a felt making group once a month, and that is yet another opportunity to buy supplies!

SoupDragon · 28/04/2013 16:00

As MoaningMinge said, I have no idea what you are all talking about.

ouryve · 28/04/2013 16:02

I have a lot of naice sock yarn. Most of it far too nice for feet.

SoupDragon · 28/04/2013 16:02

I so did not tell you about Kemps, WhingingMinge. Never bought from there in my life, oh no no no....

and even if I did, it's only because I learnt about it on MN.

Purlywhites · 28/04/2013 16:32

Just placed bids on 3 balls of bamboo . If I win them for 64p I won't feel guilty.
I hope to knit bunches of flowers for grandmothers so it will all get used.
The colours are so lovely and the yarn is quite fine.

Why can't I control it?

Thanks everyone I will feed my obsession have a look later :o

ParkerTheThief · 28/04/2013 17:01

ouryve what is this Wonderwool Wales that you speak of? Tell me more?

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain which one did you buy from Posh Yarns? There were a couple that caught my eye last week and I forgot to look on Sunday and then they were gone.

Takver · 28/04/2013 17:24

Wonderwool is today, Parker, a bus full of my friends went to it. They couldn't understand why I didn't want to drive an hour to meet up with the bus (leaving 7.30am), travel all the way to Builth Wells, then wander round a freezing cold showground all day. (Went there for the smallholder show, never again!).

ParkerTheThief · 28/04/2013 17:29

I've just looked it up, DH very helpfully said 'Oh I read about that a while back - if you'd said you were interested we could have gone'

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/04/2013 17:58

Oh god, our house is bulging under the weight of my yarn stash tooBlush

My purchasing speed far exceeds my crocheting speed, it's an addiction.

I think I need to add it to my Will, pass it on to someone who will appreciate it. I'm not sure my dses really get it. I'll have to hope I acquire a similarly minded daughter or son in lawGrin

ouryve · 28/04/2013 19:08

It was this weekend, but it's an annual event, like woolfest

Shinigami · 28/04/2013 19:44

I'm an absolute fucker for hoarding wool! My DM comes round occasionaly and steals confiscates it. She says it stops my house getting to cluttered Grin, she's helpful like that.

I've got a a thing for self patterning wool so if I see that a must have it.

You bad, bad people, putting ideas in my head.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 28/04/2013 20:25

I have had a few from Posh Yarn. Pamela sock, with sparkles, Catherine heavy lace (3ply) and Diana Heavy Lace 3 ply.

And Bonnie DK. And another DK I forgot the name of.

Hardly any really

ParkerTheThief · 28/04/2013 20:30

Grin Just a few bits hardly worth mentioning then.

I had my eye on a lace yarn called Dragonfly last week but I forgot to go back when the shop was live

TheWoollybacksWife · 28/04/2013 21:04

A lovely lady has just opened up a yarn shop in my town. She stocks the entire rainbow of Stylecraft and lots and lots of other lovely yarns, plus she has a huge squashy sofa where customers can sit and browse in comfort.

I would be doing both the local economy and her entrepreneurial spirit a disservice by not shopping there at least once a week wouldn't I?

My mum gets me to buy for her too, now as she isn't very mobile and can't get to her not-so-local yarn shop now. I have to post it, so I keep the Royal Mail going too.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/04/2013 21:04

My guilty secret is lovely lovely hand dyed yarn from Wharfedale Woolworks

I have loads of it, all waiting to be knitted into something...

And sock yarn, I can't not buy it. It's a sickness.

But I can't walk past any yarn shop without buying something Blush event though I have a reputation for starting something and never finishing it

tribpot · 28/04/2013 21:14

Your loved ones need to be more assertive, DAISY. Ds drew a picture of me knitting him the jumper I'd promised him in my birthday card this year, as a not-too-subtle hint to get the on with it.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 28/04/2013 22:01

There's still some Posh Yarn left from tonight's update I see sorry

poshyarn.co.uk/shop

That Wharfdale Woolworks looks lovely, I think I've seen that linked from Ravelry before?

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 29/04/2013 18:14

Saralyn · 29/04/2013 18:21

I too am a yarnoholic, but sine my mother is one too, I have the benefit of seeing how bad things can get, which has a sobering effect, so at the moment I am trying to reduce my stocks, and not doing too badly. I have instigated a rule that I cannot buy yarn without having some idea of what I am going to use it for.

Sometimes I do fall off the wagon, though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/04/2013 18:36

Spot on, TheNinjaGoose! This is why I buy my yarn online. Grin

Saralyn · 29/04/2013 18:37

But how do you get this cheap wonderful chinese yearn, Purlywhites? have never used ebay before, but am starting to realise this could get dangerous.

Purlywhites · 29/04/2013 21:22

There are sellers called wiseseller, kool-diy and someone else. It's natural fibres in lots of different pastels and bright colours. The balls are quite small and fine, but lovely. I just won the bid for a dark rose colour for 89p. Free postage too. (Also got 6 other colours for my flowers).
