How about a thread for sharing general tips ?

Maybe everyone already knows some of them - but maybe a few people don't Smile

eg.
I use parcel tape to remove all the tiny bits of paper scraps that stick to Sizzix dies & the cutting mat

You can cut ellison dies with the main convertor on the sizzix they are the same size as the sizzlits dies

Not sure what you mean by ellison embossed cuts

are they like the wizard embosed cuts

and what are window cuts

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 23:00

Forgot to say you can't cut the big ellison dies on the sizzix

Pixiefish · 16/05/2006 23:07

The window cuts are see through so that you can see what you're doing adn also cut holes out of cards. They'r ethin cuts so you can use them ion the sizzix with the metal convertor

Embossing folders can be used inthe sizzix but not heard of embossing folders that cut as well- thoufght they were wizard but could be wrong

Pixiefish · 16/05/2006 23:08

oops was wrong about the emboss and cut \link{http://www.cheapdies.co.uk/shop/119/259/267/index.htm\here they are}

these can also be used in the sizzix

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 23:23

Well sugar me I didn't know ellison did emboss & cut.
If the die is the same size as the sizzlits I bet you will be able to emboss & cut

The window one I see what you mean I guess again if it's the ellison thin cuts you can use it on the sizzix

you can't use the big ellison die because the won't fit through the sizzix machine.

pootlepod · 16/05/2006 23:24

But that's opened up a lot of opportunity for me Grin.

Woe betide my credit card tomorrow. Wink

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 23:33

Another thing

you can emboss on the sizzix aswell using any brass stencil you have.
(I mean other than the original sizzix embossing stencils)

If you put a thin piece of rubber matting on top of the white board then put a piece of card on top of that then put any brass stencil on top of the card and with the convertor press down a couple of times it will emboss

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 23:37

Forgot to say the thicker the card the better, if it's mirror card build it up underneath with a piece of thick card.

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 23:45

I think you would have to put the thick card build up under the white board

Carolinett · 17/05/2006 07:31

BIG SHOT from Crafty Devils £72.24 & Free delivery the cheapest I've seen so far I think

Pixiefish · 17/05/2006 09:05

I've had stuff from crafty devils and they were very good. Also Sarahs cards arew very good as are Cheap dies. Plus Sarah is very nice lol (not saying the others aren't btw- just that sarah is)

kickassangel · 17/05/2006 09:36

OK, next question - (i'm eatching ebay for sizzix) - how do you get embossed borders on cards? i don't mean the knid of embossing with raised edges, but where you have a thin gold line etc as a border - do you have to buy card with it on, or can you make it yourself?

Carolinett · 17/05/2006 10:31

You use peels off Search on ebay for border peel offs
You can buy them in all colours now but if there's
not a colour you like you can colour the silver one with a colored permanent marker
strip of peel off about 80p
buy some cheaps ones to practise with

Pixiefish · 17/05/2006 10:38

its done with embossing powder if I'm on the right track as to what you mean.

Get an embossing pen and some powder and use a heat gun to set.

Or do you mena like really smooth shiny- if so then that is pell off lines you can buy them and stick them on cards

poppiesinaline · 17/05/2006 10:47

I thought I had the sizzix sussed (what to buy etc) but now I am really confused!!! LOL

Pixiefish · 17/05/2006 12:59

It's fairly easy poppies. The sizzix will cut most dies (but not the thick cut ellison ones) BUT you need adaptors or convertors to cut non-sizzix ones. You'll see as soon as you get your sizzix

Whizzz · 29/05/2006 12:05

Another Top Tip from me...I use the end of a 'petal' from a daisy punch to make shirt badges for Sizzix football kits !

I have also been known to use fruit bag netting for the goal net ! Ssshhhh don't tell Grin

Can you tell what card I am making today ?
