How about a thread for sharing general tips ?

Maybe everyone already knows some of them - but maybe a few people don't Smile

eg.
I use parcel tape to remove all the tiny bits of paper scraps that stick to Sizzix dies & the cutting mat

Grin I was a bit worried that all would say 'of course we all know that you silly moo' Grin

I also use a matchstick to spread glue when sticking thin Sizzix letters onto cards

"don't have a baby because it b*ggers up your free time"

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 20:23

If I'm doing a load of letters I stick the card or foam to a sheet of double sided sticky paper then when i've cut them I peel of the paper and it's ready to stick, if I'm only doing a few I do it your way

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 20:25

Are we feeling a bit blue at the moment SD

Big hugs>>>>>

Pixiefish · 16/05/2006 20:26

I use a glue pen to glue letters

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 20:28

Actually I can go one better
Don't take up crafting cuz it cost you a bluddy fortune

I'd end it by saying "Buy a card from the shop" but I daren't cuz I think I'd get thrown of A&C

Pixiefish · 16/05/2006 20:44

LOL caroline- totally agree

I also sometimes use the Xyron for letters

CatBert · 16/05/2006 20:48

Now THAT has made me smile carolinett... A&C on MN has inspired me to get making some cards of my own (used to do bits and piece years ago, but have none of the stuff left, so starting effectively from scratch).

I so far have made 2, yes TWO new baby cards, and I keep thinking "£67 for two cards... Hmmm. My friends better keep popping out baby boys for a while yet, otherwise I am really never going to break even" Grin

Whizzz · 16/05/2006 20:51

Yes MN has a lot to answer for Grin

poppiesinaline · 16/05/2006 21:11

kickassangel · 16/05/2006 21:53

OK, if this is a tips site, can someone please explain sizzix to me? there's so many around, what's a good general starter, how much does it cost, is everything compatible with everything else? is there a really obviuos web site i shoudl be looking at?

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 21:58

then come back with some more quetion
This is the US site were the sizzix was born

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 22:02

Pixiefish · 16/05/2006 22:14

beanie buddy on ebay is good.

Or have a look at the market place on ukscrappers for a second hand one.

most dies work in the sizzix APART for the Big Shot thick cut ones.

Some of the smaller dies need an adaptor or a convertor and they're extra.

the big shot cuts everything and can be bought for £75 fro sarahscards

kickassangel · 16/05/2006 22:16

many thanks, computer v slow tonight so will look again another time.

kickassangel · 16/05/2006 22:39

So, i think i'm right, if i buy the big machine, it will take all the dies, but the little one can only take the little dies. there's several on ebay, and i have some birthday money to spend, so i shall hang around & try to grab a bargain

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 22:40

Well I'm off to bed if no one else has any more crafty tips for me.Sad

Carolinett · 16/05/2006 22:47

If you want to cut with the small dies like sizzlit you have to buy a convertor not sur how much they are these days. if you buy one of those you can cut all the sizzix & sizzlits dies

just to complicate it a little more if you buy a further convertor it's like a flat metal plate you can cut any accut dies

So you need two different converter used together to cut with an accute die.
Thats because they are thinner than the sizzlits and you need to build up space on the sizzix machine

pootlepod · 16/05/2006 22:52

Can you cut ellison embossed cuts using a sizzix then? What about the window cuts?
