She's made a maternity jacket! Nice space for a bump there :o

Nooooooooooo!

Interesting choice, wasn't it?
I'm kind of surprised but slightly pleased they put so much emphasis on skill that they kept the one who was 'the better sewer' even though she had fewer ideas and didn't even finish some of her garments.

EffieTheDuck · 16/04/2013 21:04

I adore Stuart.

flubba · 16/04/2013 21:09

Someone linked to it earlier in the thread I think Effie

NOOOOO STEWART!!!

I do think everyone wanted to take Ann's jacket home.

TheOneWithTheHair · 16/04/2013 21:14

Well I still want Lauren to win and can't stand Sandra. Ann and Sandra's ruthless ambition is becoming more obvious now.

I loved the little dresses and I loved the concept of Stuart's dress. I didn't actually like any of the jackets but if pushed I liked Lauren's best.

TunipTheVegedude · 16/04/2013 21:16

I loved Lauren's jacket. But I still want Ann to win. I like the fact she makes so little fuss about everything.

Lauren is really grating on me. Weeping over the bit of fabric she thought she'd lost, then finding it and suddenly looking smug all over again. Ugh.

nipersvest · 16/04/2013 21:39

i liked lauren's jacket the best, mainly because it was a style and fabric i would wear, but also i did like the bias binding trim on the inside, nice little touch.

anyone know what fabric ann used for her little dress?, was lovely.

as a sewing bee tribute, i've just posted up a free pattern for a sewing bee softie!

TolliverGroat · 16/04/2013 21:51

I'll revise my prediction to an ultimate Ann vs. Lauren faceoff, although I still fancy Ann for the win.

EffieTheDuck · 16/04/2013 22:30

Oh. I can't find a link to Ann's jacket fabric anywhere.

It had bits of black, pink and other colours through it. Was it wool? It was so beautiful.

TolliverGroat · 16/04/2013 22:37

Ann is a moderator on Artisan Square -- you could always sign up and cheekily ask her?

TolliverGroat · 16/04/2013 22:41

Ahh... it's from Linton Tweed, according to Ann (also sounds as though they switched the task on them at the last moment, which accounts for Stuart's and Sandra's jackets (I thought they were a bit casual for the brief as given on the show).

RueDeWakening · 16/04/2013 22:46

I want Lauren to win, think it'll come down to her or Ann at the end. Can't see Sandra getting that close tbh.

Flubba - you can totally make shirred dresses from 2 rectangles of fabric, I did one for DD last summer. Didn't even make a pattern, just busked it. If you're feeling really lazy, you can always use nice ribbon for the straps too :o They look fab if you can find some border print lightweight cotton (a la Fabricland poodles for example).

TolliverGroat · 16/04/2013 22:49

This and this both seem similar but not actually the same.

EffieTheDuck · 16/04/2013 23:24

Thank you! (My network keeps crashing so I will look at Linton's fabric tomorrow)

Here is a good tutorial on sewing shirring elastic

UniqueAndAmazing · 17/04/2013 11:58

I was at PCC last night, so missed the sewing bee.
I forgot it was last night so didn't record it!

Am just going to watch on iplayer now, so I'll be back later...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/04/2013 12:50

Ds2 and I are both hooked on this - and after watching this week's programme he said he would like to make his own tailored jacket. I worry at his lack of ambition! Grin

I am sad that Stuart went home - I think he was the more imaginative sewer, and he finished his garments, whereas Sandra didn't follow the instructions for the first task, and didn't finish her jacket. She should have gone, I think.

I thought Ann's jacket was perfectly 'Ann', if you see what I mean - I could see her wearing it and looking so smart. And I covet that beautiful crochet granny square scarf she was wearing - and I am going to get some yarn and make myself one.

UniqueAndAmazing · 17/04/2013 13:13

i can't believe they didn't show making the sleeves dance! Shock

thank you for all your lovely comments on my wedding dress :)

I loved the little dresses, and totally agree with Sandra not doing the rolled straps (but naughty naughty)
I love doing french seams, but I never thought they were stronger. Blush

sooo glad Lauren's went okay in the end - she really has to stop panicking so much.

Men's shirts are dead easy compared with a tailored jacket. When I made one, I managed to sew through my finger whilst putting on the breast pocket Grin

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/04/2013 13:17

Unique I've sewn though my fingers too and managed to attach myself to a batman cloak. It was strange indeed.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/04/2013 13:26

nipersvest is that your blog? The bee is very sweet. :)

flubba · 17/04/2013 13:46

Thanks RueDe - if this weather continues to be nice, I might knock a couple up this weekend.

I managed to break a pin AND a needle yesterday AND attempted to sew with my machine without the bottom bobbin loaded. Shock None of these are good sewing techniques by the way. Hmm

Made two very, very fiddly pencil cases at the weekend then got so fed up with them, I finished off an easy cushion cover for a wee bench I've made, so I can sit in the sunshine and dream about that lovely sewing room.

Blush just read that first line back - it looks very wrong all of a sudden Blush

I might make a couple of those little dresses this weekend.
