Wow. I love that coat - I would wear that. The buttonholes with the blue outline are amazing!

MrsPennyapple · 14/04/2013 21:51

Soupa Your wide leg trousers sound good, is it a pattern you've designed yourself, or it is one you could link to please? I'd like some more flattering trousers (once I'm done with this baby I'm brewing).

Soupa · 14/04/2013 22:51

Kind of like this www.simplicitynewlook.com/burda-patterns/trousers/b7122/#.UWsj3aN5mK0

view a though sometimes I sit them on the hips...post babies I tend to like a higher waist these days:)

UniqueAndAmazing I know but it's an awfully difficult way of doing it, my lecturer (who is a technical GENIUS BTW) said don't bother and I never have. So far the most I've been off is about 1 mil which he told me was crap and to do it again Wink. I luf him though, platonically, if you're reading this Bruce don't get scared Wink

I did a fly zip in my year 2 collection, it took me a day to work out mostly sat with my jeans open looking at the zip. Much respect for those guys who had only 7 hours to do a whole pair of trousers!

TolliverGroat · 15/04/2013 11:33

So which way/order should you construct trousers, tigga?

UniqueAndAmazing · 15/04/2013 13:12

Tolliver - the easier way is to do each leg seam, so make two complete legs, then put them inside each other and sew the centre seam/crotch seam.

UniqueAndAmazing · 15/04/2013 13:22

I remember learning the fly zip - we had to make one in order to put instructions in our folder.
Well, the lecturer had got a folder which had actual step by step sewing (ie, a proper fly in each stage of its construction), so I decided to do that.
5 zip flies partially constructed later, I felt knackered and vowed never to do that again (but I could then do a perfectish zip fly!)

dawntigga · 15/04/2013 16:07

I sew the crotch first in a kind of a u shape then the legs in another u shape iyswim.

If your patterns balance notches are accurate (which admittedly with a commercial pattern is probably not going to happen) and you match the crotch seams together you should be ok. The official way is to do it one leg inside the other but it's much quicker and simpler to do it the other way for me. But, every single person is different so what works for me won't work for others. As long as it's not a mess and works for you that's the important thing.

Unique the joys of being made to do something over and over again until it's perfect then to have it critiqued and all the flaws pointed out Wink

TolliverGroat · 15/04/2013 16:50

I've always done one leg inside the other before, but I'll think about experimenting next time I make some - that way isn't very intuitive for me so if the other way seems simpler and is just as effective it would be good.

I have occasionally cheated when putting sleeves into a child's top and sewn the shoulder seam before the side seam/bottom of sleeve seam, which I know is bad, so I am not averse to simpler and easier.

UniqueAndAmazing · 15/04/2013 17:56

ooh, tigga that sounds harder!

UniqueAndAmazing · 15/04/2013 18:00

ooooh, wedding dress! Grin

i made mine.
(warning lots of self-important constructions photies)

It took me months and I wasn't happy with the front skirt.

UniqueAndAmazing · 15/04/2013 18:01

Tolliver - that's how they do sports teeshirts - the long seam from end of sleeve down to the base of the side seam is all one stitch.

It's more efficient on the thread that way.

Soupa · 16/04/2013 09:39

Wow it looks fabulous but it looks sooooooo much work.

TheOneWithTheHair · 16/04/2013 18:45
