I couldn't help myself. It meant I got free shipping (from Nepal! To arrive within a week!) which would otherwise have cost me £47...
Plus that amount of felt from the UK would have been at least £1146... so technically I've actually saved nearly £1200 right?! Confused

Plus it is 100% wool, handmade, ethically made and sourced toxic free felt...

(I'm probably not going to tell my OH by the way...)

Oh a bargain I'm sure. What are you going to do with it?

How much felt do you get in the UK for £1146?

NotAChocolateRaisin · 05/12/2012 17:33

For the handmade 100% wool 3mm thick stuff you are looking at about £99.80 a metre [http://www.woolandfelt.co.uk/3mm-thick-pure-wool-felt-426-black-metre as seen here]

so... about 11 and a half metres.
(I've bought 13 metres for £98.30 or something)

Definitely a good buy...just a hell of a lot of money to spend on felt when you don't have money to spare

Could probably make my money back by selling some of it on eBay though as its not being sold on there and I've read a lot of forums in my research complaining about this

And with the quantity I've bought I'll probably be able to build a house out of it.
Bought it to make a bag and some accessories like a purse and --1000- a couple of iPhone cases

Let me know what it is like when it turns up. I may be in the market. If no one is looking

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 05/12/2012 17:40

Sounds quite reasonable to me. Will you be using it for making things?

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 05/12/2012 17:40

Ignore me, I missed your last post.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 05/12/2012 18:12

you saved money... consider this a good thing

now... if only i could get my dh to see it that way too when i "save" money buying beads Grin

MnpdoesYULETIDE · 05/12/2012 18:22

It was a real saving so a must :)

NotAChocolateRaisin · 05/12/2012 18:41

I sold it to OH by saying I would try and sell some on eBay and make my money back Grin

OP posts:
NotAChocolateRaisin · 05/12/2012 19:16

Yes, making lots of things! I'm ridiculously excited about it!
I put it off for 24 hours to try and make sure I wasn't impulse buying!

Absolute bargain! If When you sell your surplus on eBay you are sure to make your money back. Maybe think about selling on Amazon too; their craft section seems quite popular and last time I was looking for felt on there the quality of what was available looked very poor.

NotAChocolateRaisin · 06/12/2012 12:13

I can't seem to find decent felt (the thick wool stuff) anywhere in the UK (thus why I had to import it) so it could well be an overlooked market! Smile

OP posts:
SilverSixpence · 06/12/2012 12:14

Sell some on etsy or sell the cases then you can definitely justify it Smile

BRANdishingMistletoe · 06/12/2012 12:22

Do you have a link to the Nepal seller? Not that I will be buying any myself. Grin

NotAChocolateRaisin · 06/12/2012 12:35

Have a shop on Etsy so will be definitely selling my felty goods.

Will link to seller ASAP, on phone at mo so can't

I think I might run an after school sewing club at my DC's school next year so might be using quite a bit of felt, do you think your felt from Nepal would be too sturdy for 9-12 yr olds to work with? The stuff at the local fabric shop is very thin so the results are a bit floppy but, on the other hand, it's reasonably easy for them to get a needle through.

NotAChocolateRaisin · 09/12/2012 18:30

here you go

I've not recieved the felt yet but will let you know about the thickness when I get it. I have a feeling that it will be too thick for children but we'll see. I'll test it on my 9 year old brother!

Thank you. Smile

topsi · 16/12/2012 18:26

oo do you do the punch thing that was on Kirsties Homemade Home last week?

NotAChocolateRaisin · 16/12/2012 19:22

What punch thing is this? Smile

OP posts:
topsi · 17/12/2012 08:07

she used round metal punches to make holes in the felt to make a pattern. They made a childs rug. I wasn't sure if felt would make a great rug? Thought it would look good as a cushion with different fabric underneath to show through. They did mention that the felt was £70-80/m which put me off. But now we have cheep felt!!

NotAChocolateRaisin · 17/12/2012 10:55

Felt is so expensive in the UK.

This felt is 3mm thick so may make an ok rug?

I love some of the ideas on Kirsties program's but sometimes she's just dipping a pear in paint and acting like its tres chic and wonderful!

OP posts:
yuleheart · 17/12/2012 13:23

This is the woman who showed Kirstie how to make the rug, she sells kits to do it:

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn · 17/12/2012 14:37

I'm so jealous of your felt... :)

yuleheart · 17/12/2012 16:52

..... so am I!

can we have a photo when it arrives?
