Refuge Knitting thread (mainly blanket-based)

Right, this is a continuation of the main Refuge blanket thread.

We have at least one blanket project, but also droitwich fancies a go at a bear.

The currently proposed blanket project is my 'Bossy Boots Blanket', i.e. I want the organisation finished as soon as poss because I don't have a lot of time for new projects this autumn. However, there can certainly be a less bossy project as well, in different yarn and colours as people desire.

So far, definitely signed up for the Bossy Boots Blanket are:

  • me
  • NeitherShreddedNorSmug
  • HairyPotter
  • stressedHEMum

and I think BarbaraWoodlouse.

Now, we're planning to do double-sized squares just because we can, which means we only need 6 for the smaller sized blanket. However, if more people want to do a BossyBoots Blanket they can do (but they need to say so soon, otherwise they are in the Less Bossy Blanket Project).

Bossy Boots Blanket will be in Paton's Smoothie DK in Lime (1010) and Cream (1019). Note Smoothie is a 100g ball so you won't need much - indeed you could get away with one ball I would think.

Each square will have 5 rows of garter stitch top and bottom, and 5 (ish) stitches in garter for the edges. The squares will be planned together so the blanket has an overall look (this is what I mean about the level of bossiness) and once I have confirmation on the numbers we can decide what we want to do. The preference is for simple, which is good, so garter stitch, perhaps the Team Heart, but nothing more complicated than that. I intend to sew this one up myself. I'm also happy to put in a general order for the yarn and then distribute it as each knitter isn't going to need that much.

Other knitters who have expressed a preference (some of whom I have PMed but not heard back from yet).

DutchOma has offered to sew up another blanket.
tinierclanger [I've PMed you twice, clanger, but not heard anything back]
droitwichmummy - doing a teddy

Please do not feel you have to join in with the BossyBoots Blanket. There will be enough knitters for a Less Bossy Blanket, and I'm happy to do a couple of 15cm squares for that myself. However, if you do want to do the BossyBoots Blanket please now say so, so that we can plan and anyone who wants to can get cracking, whilst noting that Shredded is waiting on her yarn arriving (and I have about 75 other projects on at the same time Confused).

Hope this helps - there's no need to keep copying and pasting the list of who is on Team Knit on this thread.

Will see what leaps out at me tomorrow, Shredded - looking at Deramores, the only one I'd try and team with the lime is the blue (1085).

Yes, that's what I thought too Smile

BarbaraWoodlouse · 09/10/2012 22:40

Hi All. Hairy, have to say I know what you mean. Might be the pattern but square 2 seems to be taking forever to grow. Did have to frog a bit admittedly Smile. I do really like the concept though. It's going to be super snuggly I think.

tribpot · 10/10/2012 14:41

Right, Smoothie mission accomplished. I'm not totally happy with the colours shown but from my extensive research:

  • the slate would go but is quite dark (obviously)
  • the teal would not go, even though it's a close-run thing
  • the apricot goes quite nicely; the colour is less pinky than the pic shows despite me having messed about with the saturation trying to get it to look more like the colour I could see. But it was the opinion of both me and the lady in Hobbycraft that this was a good combo :)

they don't stock the blue, alas - but this gives you something to work with, Shredded.

Apols for triple post - just to say I've updated the doc linked to above to show the apricot, cream and lime together.

Trib, you are nothing less than MARVELLOUS! Thank you so much!

tribpot · 13/10/2012 12:38

Just a quick bump for this thread - I know it's a background task so there's no urgency. I guess we might pick up another participant or two after the current blanket project.

Will be PMing you for your address shortly Trib. Reckon I'll be finishing off my second square this weekend. Will then
mostly be juggling my granny stripe crochet blanket (currently about ----

tribpot · 15/10/2012 19:53

Just to say Hairy's square(y) has arrived today - hurrah! Postage seems a bit pricey, Hairy :-/ But the work is lovely and neat :)

HairyPotter · 15/10/2012 22:38

Glad it got there ok. Don't remember postage being too much, I stole a securicor banking bag from work so I saved money on packaging Grin I did ask as they were down to their last 500

I was having sleepless nights in case it got lost in the post and I had to knit it again Shock

Love the Hairy Squarey btw Grin

tribpot · 15/10/2012 22:48

Thank you for giving my postman food for thought by addressing it to 'The Woolly Hugger of the House' Grin

Weekend bump - no arrival from the Americas yet, Shredded - not sure how long parcels generally take.

Weekend Brew

Blush I haven't finished my second square yet Trib. Even more shamefully it's because I have been utterly distracted by Shock crochet. My granny stripe blanket is growing fast.

But this weekend I shall finish up my diagonal seed stitch and hopefully also start my squares for the My5 blanket too. Exact yarning method still TBD

tribpot · 20/10/2012 12:56

Barbara, we live in a tolerant society and therefore we understand and respect your choice to swing both ways in matters of yarncraft. It isn't for everyone but we support your choice.

It's not easy keeping up with projects when we have so many MN ones running simultaneously - I now can't remember what needle size I've been using for my half-done Mini-Hug, which could be a tad interesting.

I am about to break my golden rule 'don't go shopping in town after 1st October except between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m.' because the Wii is unable to cope with Skylanders Giants, which I bankrupted myself to buy yesterday. In fairness to said Wii, it is 5 years old and has done sterling service.

Checking in Smile

trib, I posted both the squares and the bear body parts a week last Thursday. The Post Office said they would take 1-2 weeks to arrive. Fingers crossed they will turn up next week.

droitwitchymummy · 20/10/2012 16:34

I'll let you know as soon as the bear arrives neither

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 20/10/2012 17:11

Thanks droitwich

droitwitchymummy · 22/10/2012 19:17

tribpot · 22/10/2012 19:24

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 22/10/2012 22:29

Yay! Always such a relief to know the post works!

droitwitchymummy · 23/10/2012 00:00

shredded would you prefer sewn eyes & nose for your bear or little plastic ones like I have on mine? I can do either quite easily. Assembly will start tomorrow Wink

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 23/10/2012 00:05

Thanks droitwich. Whatever is easier for you Smile

droitwitchymummy · 25/10/2012 20:30

Over here shredded!
Your lovely bear is finished and dressed. She looks splendid! I will pop a picture on my profile tonight so you can see her before she goes off to her new home

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 25/10/2012 22:47
