I'm feeling smug - I made playdough today

And it's fab - MUCH better than shop-bought stuff, of course

Feeling very virtuous now.

Thats on my 'to do' list for the kids. (Its too messy though)

You're right it is better than shop stuff and it doesn't matter if they eat it. My last lot went mouldy - the playdough expert at playgroupd said it was probably not cold when I put it away.

it was sooooo easy and tidy. apparently the secret ingredient is cream of tartare.

It only takes 5-10 mins and lasts a lot longer than ready made stuff

I've made it before...(long time ago, trying to remember)...but there is still the pan and utensils to wash...My burden of domestic drudgery is enough I think, without adding to it

True, it does tend to stick to the saucepan rather well

wierdly, the pan went all clean as I was making it. obviously I gave it a rinse afterwrads but....

dh is soooo impressed - and he's not easily impressed neither. It's a huge hulk of addictively squishy red dough... mmmm.

Umm wharfrat - not quite convinced. However, I do like the potential to include glitter in home made play dough....sparkly play dough is the business.

Oh bloody hell, I can't believe I'm weakening and considering making some play dough....

here's the recipe I used:

1/2 cup salt
1 cup flour
1 tbsp cream of tartar
1 tbsp oil
1/2 cup water
food colouring

combine ingredients in pan. Heat gently, stirring all the time until reaches desired consistency.
Take off heat and cool.

honestly, ask Lockets, I am not usually a playdough-making-type person. BUT, friend of mine convinced me to do it as A. is worthy, B cheap and C. MUCH better than shop stuff as you only have one colour (well, I do) that doesn't run and make universal sludge.

And don't come on mumsnet while it's cooking. I burnt the last lot I made .
