Still trying to work out what's wrong with mine, watched some youtube tutorials, and when they put bobbin into case and pull thread round, it snaps, does everybody's do this?
Mine has never done this.....!

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:13

I'm itching to take a look at it, PM me where you live (just county will do)

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:14

Never heard of a Jones, must be old. What do you sew then Nickle?

MissFoodie · 30/06/2012 16:15

just uploaded another pic of the bobbin well, does this have to be in any particular position before I put bobbin case in? or does it not matter?

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:15

I'll just take mine apart, hang on

MissFoodie · 30/06/2012 16:16

they were taken over by brother in the 80s.
:)

i sew everything.
i did my wedding dress on that machine.
it's here
and the dress, in case you're interested

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/06/2012 16:20

when you load the bobbin, the needle should always be in its highest positiong- it does affect the way the bobbin fits the case.

nickelbarapasaurus · 30/06/2012 16:22

okay, that all looks normal.

you definitely make the the bobbin in in the case correctly before you put the case into the machine?

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:28

Nickel that dress is beautiful! And the machine is in my favourite colour Grin

Foodie, I've had a look, and my machine threw a wobbly when I moved the metal case (your top pic) round. If you turn your metal case a bit further clockwise from the pic, so it's at back left, then your bobbin holder (the black one) should be slid in with the flat bit to the back.

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:31

lol at London, I'm in Cumbria Grin

TodaysAGoodDay · 30/06/2012 16:34

I'm going to have to give up for the day, sorry I couldn't help, give a sewing shop a ring, the one up here lets you bring in your machine if there's a problem (and they don't charge). Good luck with fixing it.

MissFoodie · 30/06/2012 16:38

ok have uploaded a 2nd pic of metal well:
second pic down is position when needle at highest, then when needle goes down to lowest, the position of the wheel is as in pic 1, that "hook" thing is there.

Now, when I place plastic bobbin case (without bobbin in it) back into metal well, should the metal hook section match the top of my bobbin case? or does it not matter?

according to instructions this should all be in before you put bobbin of thread in, I took it all out as was going mad trying to work out what was wrong....

I don't know if you've fixed the problem, but I had similar issues, though with a front loading Pfaff. Every time I statred sewing the bobbin thread jammed up. I rethreaded it several thousand times, yelled a lot, changed the needle and walked away before I threw the machine at the wall. It turned out, after I took it to my mum with a plea for help, that the problem was caused by my top thread. Namely, that I had too large a 'plastic thing that holds the reel onto the spool'. No problems since. Apparently it's in the manual. Who knew?

MissFoodie · 01/07/2012 21:25

really???yes there are 2 sizes plastic round bits that hold thread on to spool....

will give it a go, thanks!

MissFoodie · 01/07/2012 23:42

changed it to small one, but still did it.....

thanks Today :)

i'm sorry MissFoodie, i can't think of anything else, i think you might have to go back to john lewis for help :(

JamNan · 03/07/2012 14:02

I just posted on your other thread but one more thing springs to mind. I don't know how experienced you are with machine sewing and I am really sorry to ask this fundamental question. BUT...

After you have put the bobbin in, are you pulling the bobbin thread up through the throat plate by positioning the needle down then up to catch it and manually pulling it through? You can do this using the balance wheel on the right hand side of the machine. I must add I am not familiar with Janome machines so take no notice of me if I write rubbish.

A trip to JL looks likely.

MissFoodie · 04/07/2012 11:17

thanks, yes, am doing all of this - have adjusted tension and given myself a couple of days off, will go back to it tonight or tomorrow and see how it goes!

OP posts:
BigBoobiedBertha · 06/07/2012 16:09

Have you been using the same threads each time? My Janome doesn't like Gutermann's thread at all which is a real pain. If you have been using the same thread each time you have tried, try another one.

The three threads coming out of the bottom I reckon are the normal thread feeding through plus a large loop/stitch which hasn't pull tight properly. It happens to me sometimes and as you lift the fabric away (if you can and it hasn't already got tangled around itself) you can see the stitch tighten as normal. Don't ask me why that happens though - I suspect it is a tension issue but you know how it is, you try changing things and when it is eventually sorted, you can't remember which makes the winning combination!

As for the snapping, no mine doesn't because you just slot it in, there is nowhere to snap.
