Ok, new pictures, photobucket.com/albums/c176/NotQuiteCockney/?sc=6 . I like both new hats, although the photos are rubbish. (Am I not holding the camera still?)

Not sure what to do next, am slightly uninspired. Thinking about tubular knitting? DH has a colleague whose wife is having a baby, so I should do one for them ...

Will do Littlefish, thank you.

FrannyandZooey · 12/03/2006 12:47

Ah, you don't accept CATs. Could you email me on frannyandzooey at india dot com please?

Littlefish · 12/03/2006 13:10

Sent you a message F&Z Smile

NotQuiteCockney · 12/03/2006 16:42

I'm glad you're enjoying them.

Oh, tamum, I didn't send FaZ any silk, and not a lot of colourways. Actually, not that much wool either, I didn't feel like knitting any of my albatross.

I'm starting to worry the sweater is less than 20cm across, in which case I will have to frog it. I can't quite get it measured well, on the needle, as it's a 14" circular needle it's on. It's 4 1/2" long, so I really do have to figure out how wide it is, to know how long I want it to be ...

Oh, and no pompoms, no bobbles (mine always look like pustules, frankly), no intarsia, no fair isle, no slip-stitch colour work.

A tiny bit of cabling, some short-rows work, and weird i-cord stuff. Not that much texture work, per se.

Tamum, that link to the Interweave stuff looks fabulous. Exactly my style of stuff. Do you subscribe to it? Are any of the patterns available online? I wouldn't expect them to be free, though, but I can always dream.

tamum · 13/03/2006 18:32

Me too Pruni, I love IK. I do subscribe to it, you'll be amazed to hear. They do sometimes do free online patterns, but it's usually only one a quarter or so. I subscribe through Scottish Fibres, it's about £18 a year I think. Only 4 issues, but there is always something I want to knit, unlike the situation with the UK magazines. Luckily I have loads of back copies, and you will be living in the same city soon :)

Pruni · 13/03/2006 18:35

Smile I look forward to it!
Hey tamum have you got snow? My inlaws sent pics yesterday of Fife - haven't seen snow like that since a kid in the Cairngorms

tamum · 13/03/2006 18:37

None today, but absolute loads yesterday, it was really settling. Much warmer today though so it's all melted. Very dramatic it was though :)

NotQuiteCockney · 13/03/2006 21:33

I should try IK.

Next time I'm in Canada, I'm going to buy one copy of every knitting periodical I can find.

I am making very good progress with my jumper. I frogged it yesterday, but have done more than 4 inches of the body now! In 4-ply!

Oh pants.

I have just realised that I have been knitting this all wrong, and have been doing 20" of knitting (across the side) rather than 10". So I am either making this in a much much bigger size, or will have to change the pattern significantly now.

I think making it in a much much bigger pattern would be too much. Hmmm, 20" across the back means it'll be too big for me. I am not doing my first cardi in a grownup size.

I don't want to frog it again.

So it sounds like my first real go at a cardi will involve me making it up as I go along. Wahey.

I've narrowed down my options for the sweater. I can either do raglan sleeves, but bottom-up. Or I can do drop-shoulder, no steeking.

I'm leaning slightly towards raglan sleeves, but slightly nervous about how to do them - I'll have to work up from the cuffs and then join it all together. Off to look for patterns that do that!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 14/03/2006 14:31

Ok, I'm going with raglan, I think. Going to do the bottom bit until it's the right length, then put it on a holder. Then going to do the sleeves, until they're the right length, onto holders. Then split the bottom bit into sides, back, armpit, pair off with armpit from each sleeve, maybe knit a few rows of ease (prob not though, as would cause problems?), then bind off using three-needle cast off.

Then going to do raglany things until I get to the top.

Need to work out when I want to start reducing to get v-neck.

I'm thinking about doing the collar/button band in yellow, just to make it more interesting. Same yellow as I'm using for trim.

la la la la la ... just talking to myself here :-P

OP posts:
bran · 14/03/2006 21:36

I keep seeing this thread pop up. I thought it was hugely popular, perhaps even contentious, but no it's just NQC talking to herself. Wink

(btw what's frogging?)

NotQuiteCockney · 14/03/2006 21:37

frogging = unknitting. I think it's meant to be like someone saying "rip it/ribbit" ... if you see what I mean.

I do wish knitting wasn't full of such lame terms. At least it's not as bad as SEX etc.

(how goes, anyway?)

OP posts:
bran · 14/03/2006 21:55

It's going very well thanks, the urge to knit something is wearing off as the weather is warming up. I still haven't done much quilting though, even though ds has started nursery 2 afternoons a week. I don't know where the time goes, it feels like I've only just dropped him off, done the shopping, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, put a clothes wash on, gone through the post/bills/e-mails, and suddenly just as I'm about to settle down to some quilting it's time to pick him up again. Grin

bran · 14/03/2006 22:07

The more I think about the more I think that "frogging" ought to be a sex term. Perhaps it could describe dogging where the sex takes place in a very tall vehicle (a 4x4 perhaps) so that the watchers have to keep jumping up to see what's happening. Grin

How are things with you? Do you fancy a visit out somewhere (Discover perhaps)?

Should I do some faux knitting talk in case the others on this thread get angry about the hi-jack?

tamum · 14/03/2006 22:37

Angry See, that's me being angry about the hijack :o

NQC, I'm sure you know what you're doing. It's just a bit hard to follow without being able to see what you're knitting, sorry!

Miaou · 14/03/2006 22:40

sorry, sorry, serial lurker on this thread, but bran I shall pmsl all night about your frogging comment, that is hilarious GrinGrinGrin

Twiga · 14/03/2006 22:48

Hi all,

Marina suggested coming and joining the chat on here but have put it off as I would have to admit to not really having done any knitting since the mn blanket and having never finished the jumper I started knitting for dd while I was pg - she's now 6 months old, there's still only a back and half a front and it will be too small now anyway. guess once I get round to finishing it I can put it away for next time!

Really need to get my needles back out but don't want to start anything too big and now it's approaching warmer weather I can't think what to make. Really want to do something for dd seens as how I failed miserably on the jumper front - any ideas?

Twiga · 14/03/2006 22:51

Franny, what's heuristic play? Sorry for the non-knitting question but not heard of before and sounds interesting.

tamum · 14/03/2006 23:07

Hi Twiga, I would tend to go for a cotton cardigan or something, maybe? There are some lovely little jumper patterns \link{http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer03/PATTdaisy.html\here}, or this dear little \link{http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/PATTanouk.html\tunic dress thing} which could also be done in cotton :)

Twiga · 14/03/2006 23:12

Tamum, the dress is lovely, sooo cute, seriously thinking about giving it a bash - thanks!

tamum · 14/03/2006 23:13

Believe me, if I could persuade my 7 year old dd into it I'd be knitting one myself!

Twiga · 14/03/2006 23:18

Will have a proper look at the pattern when I'm more awake - should really get to bed - dd had me up from 5.30am this morning! Might need a bit of help deciphering some of it.
