Oi, did you knit a woolly hat for Innocent? Over here please!

Hello

We've had word from the peeps at innocent that some of the very lovely hats Mumsnetters have sent them came with contact details that didn't include a phone number.

Innocent are very keen to send out the promised smoothies to all hat-knitters but they do need your phone number first - so they can check you'll be in when the smoothies arrive.

So, if you knitted a hat and sent it in but think you may not have included your phone number, please mail us at [email protected].

Please put "woolly hat" in your subject line and include your name (RL or MN nickname), your phone number and a little description of your hat.

Thank you very much, MNHQ

What are the point of these woolly hats please - there was a whole cabinet of them in Sainsburys the other day, and I felt sad that they would mostly end up in the bin..............

SootySweepandSue · 07/11/2011 18:09

The promotion boosts sales in a slow month for smoothies. The hats are of sufficient novelty to Sainsbos HQ to warrant the extra shelf space in a bid to encourage the much anticipated extra sales. Innocent give money to charity in return for the sales boost.

I'm amazed the hats are proper knitted though. I thought that they came from a factory somewhere (maybe the majority are and a few are donated...).

SoupDragon · 07/11/2011 18:13

They donate money to Age Concern for each one sold. I think it's about keeping warm in winter.

CrackersandCheese · 07/11/2011 18:21

All of the are hand knitted for any cynics out there Wink

belgo · 07/11/2011 18:23

They are lovely. The UK is great sometimes with initiatives such as this, very imaginative and well made. The wholly hats have ended up on my girls' barbie dollies.

belgo · 07/11/2011 18:24

wooly!

belgo · 07/11/2011 18:24

I still can't spell itBlush

moondog · 07/11/2011 18:30

Utterly pointless isn't it?

VirtuallyHere · 07/11/2011 18:35

They look really nice ... but I bet most just end up in landfill.

SoupDragon · 07/11/2011 18:38

How is it pointless when money is donated for each one sold?

moondog · 07/11/2011 19:01

Why can'y you just donatre the money?
Why waste en ergy on knitting something that will in all probability be thrown away.
It's the height of imbecility.

SoupDragon · 07/11/2011 19:06

Er... because its fun perhaps? You do know what that means don't you?

Hardly the height of imbecility.

People don't always "just" donate money, they like the incentive. Some people will by the special bottles to get a hat. Just like people buy a poppy or a charity badge, bag or other item.

letitwork · 07/11/2011 19:17

Why can't people knit hats for....er...starving people in Africa or something and then Innocent donate money to Age Concern out of their own pockets?

SoupDragon · 07/11/2011 19:34

Probably because starving people in Africa don't need hats so the link between "keeping warm in winter" and the token (in this case wooly hats) isn't there?

SoupDragon · 07/11/2011 19:36

Besides, they are donating money to Age Concern out of their own pockets. The price of the smoothie hasn't changed.

God, some people are dull and joyless.

letitwork · 07/11/2011 19:42

Get a grip soupdragon, it was a joke.

On a serious note though, I do object to them calling on volunteer resources to knit something utterly pointless. I'm sure there's a charity out there that could make use of knitted items like hats for actual people, not for plastic bottles. Innocent could encourage people to knit something useful and still then make a donation to Age Concern.

But they won't, because that won't make them any money.

And yes, people don't have to volunteer to do this, but what a bloody waste of time and effort to generate something absolutely pointless.

Sparkles23 · 07/11/2011 19:43

If you have bought the smoothies and get the free hats please donate them to a charity called 'Lisa's Stars' a wonderful charity that makes clothing for babies born sleeping. I'm fortunate enough not to have been affected by this but remember seeing a thread somewhere about this earlier in the year-Money Saving Expert I think but it really stuck with me as a new Mum and walking through sains yesterday seeing the smoothies with hats reminded me and almost brought me to tears (I'm not a teary sort either) so please please donate them.

Agreed moondog.

"some people are dull and joyless"

Or maybe we just get our kicks some other way, if you can believe that Grin

Sparkles23 · 07/11/2011 19:54

Babies born v early yes, they are the perfect size.

SleepyFergus · 07/11/2011 19:54

We use them as egg cosies in our house!

FrancesFarmer · 07/11/2011 19:56

This strikes me as being on a par with guerilla knitting in its pointlessness.

Housewifefromheaven · 07/11/2011 20:28

What sleepy said

moondog · 07/11/2011 20:45

Or guerilla ironing whatever that is.
FFS, get a grip.

ihatecbeebies · 07/11/2011 21:09

They can be donated to keep some dolls heads snug.
