Well am the proud owner of a 6x2ft stall from 7-9pm on December 1st. Cost 12.00. Can set up from 4pm. YIKES - this is it now.

Anyone else booked a stall. I thought we could start up a mutual appreciation society for scared people and hopefully get some of you into booking stalls coz we make such lovely cards they deserve an airing!

Oh forgot to add. It's a a local infant/Junior school and this is the first time they have done an Arts & Crafts for Christmas evening. They have 16 stalls so far and the only other card stall is Phoenix Cards (Anyone heard of em).

Hip Flask at the ready

Well done UCM. After my first stall disaster (due to no electricity & too many old biddies - not my cards, I'm sure !) - I have stall at school Xmas Fayre at end of this month.

Don't forget flyers with contact details on for orders & name & contact details on back of cards. ...oh & hip flask !

pootlepod · 11/11/2005 18:52

Phoenix Cards are like 'usbourne books', e.g. people buy a stock kit and catalogues and then sell them (Hope that makes sense)

They do nice cards, but they are printed and not hand made. The designs are very 'samey' after a while.(IMO) They are £1 a card but they do sell packs for cheaper. They also sell gift wrap and tags.

Blimey - thats like being up against WHSmith !

Only joking - yours are much more unique UCM

jayzmummy · 11/11/2005 19:26

There were some on ebay a while ago....dont worry...they are naff and horrible.

fisil · 11/11/2005 19:27

I've not been very good at finding places to sell my Christmas card kits. How do you find out about the fairs (I've done web searches)?

I have been doing stalls for 2 years now and I still get really stressed.

My biggest mistake was a big charity fair which cost £75 for 2 days for a 6x6. Turned up and they tried to palm me of with a sort of diagonal pitch which was no use as I used 2 tables one in front of the other meaning i was encroaching on another stall. Top tip always be lovely and pleasent to orgainisers. I got moved but other moaning faced didn't. Anyway I took about £100 over 2 days. 5 hr days as well, school ones are great because you are only there for 2hrs usually and kids are my best customers.

I have a fair tomorrow so i really should be printing my price tags.

Skribble · 11/11/2005 22:37

If it is true craft fairs try looking for local associations, for school ones try the local paper or posters in the Post office. You can try phoneing round the schools but this takes ages as it is usually the PTA and the school never seems to know much. I have got 4 fairs confirmed and another 4/ 5 to check out. IME church fairs normaly just have there own stalls but sometimes take "real" crafters.

UCM · 11/11/2005 23:25

Phone schools in your area. My CM put me in touch with her church one but for me, I reckon it's a no no as it will be mostly old gabbits, nothing against old gabbits but they tend to buy cards in Tescos 20 for a quid and then send them to my address even though the dear old gabbit doesn't exist anymore and hasn't for 4 years.

Ding Dong, I take it you sell Phoenix cards. One of the CMs I went to see for Ds is doing it. She has given up childminding to sell Phoenix cards. Hope she doesn't mind the HUGELY, WONDERFUL, INDIVIDUAL, GORGEOUS competition.

I am wondering what the other 14 stalls are doing. I have done chocolate spoons!!

chocolate spoons ??????

UCM · 12/11/2005 02:11

I am only up because DH is home tomorrow, so can get up with DS as I am knackered. Got stall today and ave been making cards ever since.

Can't remember what this bit is about. Oh chocolate spoons.

Having done this today. Buy some cheap dark chocolate (as the milk/white went a bit mental). Heat up a pan of hot water. Put a bowl in with a teaspoon of marg/butter/clover break choc and try to stir until it melts. Cover the spoon end of plastic spoons. (99p from wilkinsons) and put them on a baking tray. Put in the fridge and you have........chocolate spoons. Then put them in some cellophane, add some decorative shit and hey presto.

I have lots of chocolate spoons. Went into florists today and have the cellophane and havenn't really got a clue what to do anymore. Never mind tomorrow is another day near to stall...........Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

My fridge is full of chocolate f**king spoons. God help me for this is a bright idea, that went strangely pear shaped.

Nits.xx

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 12/11/2005 08:53

But what do you do with the choc spoons ? Surely if you bite them, you will also get a mouth full of plastic & if you stir them into a hot drink, the plastic will melt ?

[confused emoticon]

UCM why are you up at 2.15am making choc spoons anyway !

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 12/11/2005 18:16

I'm making some little elasticated bracelets to sell at the Xmas Fayre - all proceeds going straight to school and to kids something to mess with whilst grown ups peruse my wares . 10p a bracelet I think

Skribble · 12/11/2005 18:29

Well I did not too bad today, too many scone people and toddlers (it was a toddler groups fair). The scone people just wanted tea and homebaking and strangly enough they weren't interested in my Test Tube Goo . At least I didn't make a loss.

champs · 13/11/2005 01:12

UCM, dont forget to take chocolate off their spoons once they're set!!

UCM · 13/11/2005 11:05

No no no, you leave the chocolate on the spoons. Then cluster some spoons together in a pretty bag.
