Worried about NT scan result (31 yo | 12+4 | 61mm CRL | 2.1mm NT)

Hello! First time posting here.

I’m 31, had an miscarriage earlier this year at 5 weeks and I’m pregnant again, 12 weeks 5 days today.

I had my 12 week scan yesterday and I’m worried about the NT measurement. At a CRL of 61mm, NT was measuring 2.1mm. I am waiting for blood test results but I cannot relax at all and I won’t get the letter sooner than two weeks. The sonographer said all looked good, but looking through some of the threads here and some of the studies conducted normal, healthy readings seem to be below 2mm.

Has anyone had an NT reading higher than 2mm that didn’t lead to any complications?

Thank you!

I had an NT measurement of 1mm at 12 weeks in my first pregnancy, but a measurement of 2mm in my second. I was surprised that it was so much bigger but was reassured that this was within the normal range. I believe up to 3.5mm can be considered normal.

I did actually end up with a high risk screening result, but this was because of really weird hormone levels rather than the NT measurement. I had the NIPT which came back low risk and he’s here now and fine.

SunbathingDragon · 19/06/2020 20:05

Even with covid going on, if you are high risk you will get a phone call within 48 hours (usually 24 hours). The letter is only sent to those who are low risk. As you are worried, I’d recommend having a NIPT; it’s much more accurate.

Aria2015 · 19/06/2020 20:05

Yes, my son had an NT of 2.7mm and is perfectly healthy. I'm currently pregnant and this baby had an NT of 2.2mm and I've had the harmony test which came back low risk and 20 week scan showed no issues. From what I've read anything under 3.5mm is considered 'normal' so try not to worry.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 21/06/2020 05:59

Well within normal range OP.

Shelley54 · 21/06/2020 06:06

It's 3 and over before they raise an eyebrow. Try to relax, nothing you've said suggests you have a problem.

Somethingsnappy · 23/06/2020 18:26

As a pp said, you wouldn't need to wait for a letter if you were high risk. They'd call you within a week, but usually much sooner than that, within a day or two. So you won't be waiting on tenterhooks for very long. And that NT measurement is within the normal range. I'm waiting for test results too OP. I know it's hard! Wishing you all the best.

Enterthedragons · 23/06/2020 18:31

My NT the other day at 12+4 was 2mm. I had a low risk harmony results and my Down’s syndrome risk came back 1 in 1500 which I’m happy enough with. They also told me I’d get the combined test results in 2 weeks if all low risk but actually the letter came much quicker than that (I think it was about 5 days later?!) so you might not have long to wait.

Thank you all! You put my mind at ease a bit Smile

I had the scan early on Thursday, and have yet to hear anything, hopefully no news is good news.

@MajorFaffington - Glad to hear your lil’ man is healthy!

@SunbathingDragon - Thank you! I’ve had a look around for an NIPT test. If the odds don’t seem particularly great, we’ll definitely book one.

@Aria2015 - Happy all was well! Thank you, I really should have asked about a normal range at my scan, but I got too emotional seeing the little wriggler Blush and lost all train of thought.

@Somethingsnappy - Thank you! Hope the results will come soon and we both get to relax and enjoy our pregnancies Halo

@Enterthedragons - Aw! That’s good news! Hope your pregnancy goes well!

Thank you all for the support again! Really appreciate it! x

OP, I had my scan etc early on Thursday too! The midwife said if it were high risk I'd probably hear by Monday or Tuesday. She said if I hadn't heard anything by Thursday I could assume all was well. So one more day to get through for us both! Fingers crossed!

MajorFaffington · 24/06/2020 11:50

I received my high risk call on the Thursday after scan on Tuesday. I’m sure I read that they have to call within 3 days. I am not sure how the weekend/covid situation would affect that but I think you can feel reassured that the call is unlikely to come now.

MajorFaffington · 24/06/2020 11:51

And thanks, OP

Somethingsnappy · 24/06/2020 11:54

That's good to know, Major, thank you! So glad everything turned out well for you.

roArtemis · 26/06/2020 11:08

@Somethingsnappy My results just came through! Have you received yours?

1 in 64000 for Down’s Syndrome and 1 in 100000 for Edward’s and Patau’s.

OP posts:
Somethingsnappy · 26/06/2020 15:54

That's wonderful, OP! You must be happy and relieved? Yes, I got mine back..... 1 in 2995 for Down's and 1 in 665 for Edward's and Patau's, which is good for my age (I'm 43) so I'm very happy. I had similar results to you for my first two pregnancies, in my thirties. I had slightly low PAPP A in my third pregnancy and it's probably the same again this time, which would probably explain why my results for Edward's and Patau's are not as good as they have been in the past. But my results are still much lower risk than they would be based on my age alone. Smile

Congratulations!

roArtemis · 26/06/2020 16:04

Eek! Such good news! Thrilled and relieved for both!

Congratulations and I hope your pregnancy and delivery go smoothly!

Same to you! It's such a relief, isn't it? Role on the 20 week scan now! My nausea is starting to improve now too, thank goodness. How are you feeling?

roArtemis · 26/06/2020 18:03

I had a good cry after seeing the results Blush

I’m impatient - I might go for a 16 week scan, so my husband can attend too. He couldn’t join me at 12 weeks.

Same - nausea has started to fade away, I’m not quite 100% keen on all foods and smells but there’s been a noticeable different. What improved most at my end was not needing to go to bed at 6pm everyday Grin I don’t even know what to do with all this energy now!

Are you planning on finding out the gender at your next scan?

OP posts:
Hummingbird82 · 26/06/2020 18:08

Glad your result is good OP.

At 12 weeks 5 days my scan was 62mm CRL and 2.0mm NT. My results were 1 in 765 for DS and 1 in 100000 for the others.

My DS result worried me but I am 37... had multiple scans since and everything has been fine. Baby due in 3 weeks x

roArtemis · 26/06/2020 19:11

Awww you’re so close to meeting your lil’ one! Good news, I can’t imagine how excited you must be!

I hope you get to enjoy these weeks and relax before the arrival and that all goes smoothly!

It’s our first one, but all this worry is only a small glimpse into parenthood isn’t it? Blush

OP posts:
Somethingsnappy · 27/06/2020 11:33

We won't find out the sex of the baby....my other three have all been surprises too! What about you OP? I'm glad your energy is returning and the nausea is on the way out.

roArtemis · 27/06/2020 15:59

I’m a planner, the more I know the more prepared and less anxious I feel Smile I’ll have to book ours! I can’t even wait until the 20 weeks scan hah

There are definitely benefits to finding out!

AshiSaeed · 31/08/2021 21:46

Hello @Hummingbird82 did you give birth?

My scan at 12 weeks the nt was 2.1mm and i am worrying as hell!

Idk but it has been weighing up so much on my mind also i did request sonographer to have a look at nasal bone but she said they practice looking into things like that :/

emma1103 · 31/08/2021 21:59

2.1 is perfectly normal. Anything under 3.5 they are usually not concerned by. My babies NT was 9.9. I've been through every test/scan possible, and somehow he is passing everything and his NT has gradually reduced. If they were concerned, you would have been informed at the scan and had other tests booked.

AshiSaeed · 02/09/2021 15:20

Thanks @emma1103 but i can't seem to relax since i had a miscarriage early this year. I think nt plus 2 mm is not a very safe measurement. But i pray the baby is fine!
