I posted about this back in December (I think) but unfortunately it’s not fixed and keeps getting worse so thought I’d make a new post with an updated photo from tonight

I have a pretty unpleasant infection on my skin and I can’t seem to get rid of it. I’ve had i for 2-3 months now (since roughly the start of December I think) and I’ve had several different antibiotics, fungas treatments, topical treatments and all sorts from the doctor. Nothing is getting rid of it completely. It sometimes gets slightly better than flares up and spreads again. It’s wet, sticky and really hot and painful. It’s around the crack of my ear and keeps spreading onto the skin around my scalp and on the back of my ear. It’s not spreading beyond that so far thankfully

has anyone had similar and have any advice of something I could try for it? Starting to panic it will never go- it’s so ugly and really painful, I’m currently sleeping upright because rolling over in my sleep onto that side of my head is too excruciating. Trying so hard not to be upset by it but I’m so disappointed it’s not gone yet and I just want it to go away, it’s so embarrassing and painful

I cannot offer help, but I am so sorry. It looks so painful and unpleasant. I hope you are able to get relief.

SlaveToTheVibe · 21/02/2023 03:45

Do you suffer from psoriasis? It’s a classic scalp psoriasis location although that looks so raw.

My son has recurrent staph pvl and what sorts him out immensely is dettol baths - a cap or two.

have you tried topical antibiotics like fucidin? Have they not taken swabs?

CheerfulYank · 21/02/2023 04:18

Is it impetigo? My son just had that, along with the rest of the wrestling team.

Threelefthands · 21/02/2023 04:35

I would go back to the GP and ask for a referral to a Dermatologist.

Daisychained8 · 21/02/2023 05:00

I almost don’t want to post this because I’m scared that I’ll get flamed for suggesting a natural solution but this has been so helpful for me that I am going to post and hope nobody yells at me.

1 teaspoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon coconut oil. Make sure everything is organic and natural with nothing removed (apple cider vinegar must be ‘with the mother’; coconut oil raw and edible, not a skincare product). Mix together and apply to your skin. Leave on for around 20-40 minutes, and then wash off and reapply a few times per day.

I use this for everything on my skin now. I used it on a horrible, scaly, dry, raised patch of skin that was showing worrying early signs of skin cancer - it completely got rid of it. I use for all rashes and fungal infections (I had a horrible one on my foot but got rid of it quickly with this!). I use on my kids and husband too whenever they have any skin ailment.

I know it might sound odd but my husband is Indian and we lived in India and using natural solutions in this way is totally normal in India - it’s where I learned about it, from the Ayurvedic doctor next door - as well as in many other countries and it really works. You can read about each product online if you’re unsure whether you want to try - even western medicine is recognising the power of these products for healing, especially turmeric.

Daisychained8 · 21/02/2023 05:03

(Want to stress that I’m not saying it cured skin cancer! It was the raised, scaly, dark patch that is caused by sun damage over the years and is high risk for later becoming skin cancer. I forget the technical term, it’s been a while!)

Forgooodnesssakenow · 21/02/2023 05:08

Got on your GP, ask for swabs to be taken, they should give you a STRONG course if oral antibiotics, take the entire course, they should also give a topical antibiotics too, if not entirely gone by end of antibiotics go back, ask for dermatology referral and something to control immediately. Ask about skin cancer possibility, are you washing it and gently patting dry at least twice a day?

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 21/02/2023 05:15

Have they tried a topical steroid? My DS gets eczema and got a weird infection/reaction in a patch of eczema once. It became this open seeping growing wound, the GP we saw prescribed a steroid cream (tricortone) which cleared it up in a few days.

Tropicaliyes · 21/02/2023 05:44

Try some neem oil, smells horrid but works wonders!

maybeinanoter86 · 21/02/2023 05:46

Hi I had an awful flare up like this under my breasts . It was so painful and was spreading . I had it for nearly a year and tried everything the doctors give me and nothing worked . A friend suggested pure coconut oil. So I tried it and it went away and hasn't come back . This was 7 years ago . You can get it anywhere . Get the 100 percent organic one . I hope it works for you x

Rosycampfireglow · 21/02/2023 05:48

Oh, goodness, that looks agonising. Poor you.

Nothing useful to add, just that I hope you find relief as soon as possible.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 21/02/2023 05:48

You need to see a dermatologist. We had to argue to do so with DC two years ago, we were fobbed off by GP with all manner of things which did nothing but aggravate their skin.

Saw Dermatologist after 5 months of pain and upset, she looked at it, diagnosed it as a rare form of eczema, creams sorted it in 2 weeks.

Sindonym · 21/02/2023 05:53

Fucidin-H? Fucidin is my go to but adding the hydrocortisone will help calm it faster. If you are using hydrocortisone are you tapering when you remove it? Had to taper incredibly slowly with my son, if we didn’t it came back worse with a rebound.

I have taken a screenshot of @Daisychained8 post though & will try it myself (family of skin stress reactions or tendency to have issues with skin & infections). What does ‘with the mother’ mean for the apple cider vinegar?

MooBaby · 21/02/2023 05:56

Do not stick anything on your skin unless the doctor has suggested it. Keep going back - push for a dermatology referral.

Magnoliamarigold · 21/02/2023 06:05

Turmeric, same as what a PP says

Londonnight · 21/02/2023 06:06

Are you immunosuppressed and on a biologic?

My son had this or similar and he is on infliximab infusions. His is infliximab induced psoriasis. The GP tried all creams and steroid creams, but none of this worked. I can't remember what treatment the dermatologist gave, but it did work.
You will need to see a dermatologist to get a proper diagnosis. Go back to your GP and ask for a referral.

Nudity · 21/02/2023 06:07

GP.

lap90 · 21/02/2023 06:09

I am unfortunately having some sudden issues with the skin on my scalp that look somewhat similar to what you've pictured although not as bad. Still red, raw and tender. I suspect it is psoriasis. I would advise going to the GP.

SofiaAmes · 21/02/2023 06:15

I had a skin thing that didn't heal (and was told it was nothing by the gp) and it turned out to be skin cancer. Please get a referral to a dermatologist.

UdoU · 21/02/2023 06:15

Nudity · 21/02/2023 06:07

GP.

Eh? She says ‘I’ve had several different antibiotics, fungas treatments, topical treatments and all sorts from the doctor

No advice, Op, sorry, but I hope you find the cause.

LocSeeTan · 21/02/2023 06:17

Please don't use Neem oil. It's highly toxic hence why its used to control pests on plants.
Please see your gp to refer you to a dermatologist and ask for test for autoimmune disorders.

augustusglupe · 21/02/2023 06:24

Go back to the GP and get a referral to see a Dermatologist. You've been more than patient trying various lotions and potions.
I'd really push for a referral. If it's a long wait, can you go private?

Desertbarncat · 21/02/2023 06:31

Definitely needs strong antibiotics and testing for MRSA. Antibiotic resistant infections take 7 rounds of antibiotics to make them go away.

WandaWonder · 21/02/2023 06:34

I had similar was put on antibiotics and had a blood test, it was a while now but I thought I was positive for staphylococcus (if that sounds right) and I remember talk of monitoring me for sepsis

They took it seriously

BigCheeseSandwich · 21/02/2023 06:35

Some of the replies here are frankly dangerous. Please don’t trial the suggestions here OP - escalate with your doctor, dermatologist.
