I posted about this back in December (I think) but unfortunately it’s not fixed and keeps getting worse so thought I’d make a new post with an updated photo from tonight

I have a pretty unpleasant infection on my skin and I can’t seem to get rid of it. I’ve had i for 2-3 months now (since roughly the start of December I think) and I’ve had several different antibiotics, fungas treatments, topical treatments and all sorts from the doctor. Nothing is getting rid of it completely. It sometimes gets slightly better than flares up and spreads again. It’s wet, sticky and really hot and painful. It’s around the crack of my ear and keeps spreading onto the skin around my scalp and on the back of my ear. It’s not spreading beyond that so far thankfully

has anyone had similar and have any advice of something I could try for it? Starting to panic it will never go- it’s so ugly and really painful, I’m currently sleeping upright because rolling over in my sleep onto that side of my head is too excruciating. Trying so hard not to be upset by it but I’m so disappointed it’s not gone yet and I just want it to go away, it’s so embarrassing and painful

Have you any way of trying light therapy as it is diagnosed as psoriasis, then I am curious if the doctor / dermatologist is taking that path I have psoriasis and the patches behind my ears do weep and bleed, I find rinsing them with salt water can help but its not as angry looking as that patch. The tooth infection is interesting. Our skin is everywhere and is one organ, has the doctor got both pieces of info as two infections that won't budge surely needs some investigation

Yolanda524 · 01/03/2023 21:50

Have you had is swabbed to be tested for what is causing the infection and it would also be able to say which antibiotics or treatment would be best for it. Ask your GP to do the swabs.

ValenciaOrange · 01/03/2023 21:51

I have no idea if this would help but I had a fungal rash under my breast that just kept getting worse despite three different creams. I started using medicated powder from Boots. It's like talc but isn't talc. This got rid of it and allowed it to dry out whereas the creams just seemed to make it more moist and weepy.
It looks really painful so I do hope you find something that helps .

PragmaticWench · 01/03/2023 21:52

Starting to wonder if this could be a bug that’s resistant to antibiotics like mrsa, does anyone know if this is what it’s usually like?

This is why people are saying you need to push your GP for swabs to be taken to see what this may be infected with. If your GP won't help, go to A&E.

Yeah when I manage to get an appointment I’m going to ask for it to be swabbed so we know exactly what it is x

I’ve not read the full thread, but has your GP swabbed it? To look at what the infection is and what antibiotics it could be resistant too?

I’ve got MRSA in the skin condition on my hands and it’s become resistant to a lot of antibiotics and they are having real problems trying to clear it. I’m on antiseptic body washes and nasal ointment now.

I really hope you get some help soon it looks very sore.

This is a sensible idea. I hope you get some answers and effective treatment! 💐

ladyofshertonabbas · 01/03/2023 23:29

Sudocrem, honestly, it will really soothe it, and the bacteria won’t be able to live there. It really works. Plus a swab.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 01/03/2023 23:32

I think you are on the right track re MRSA or Staph. It should be checked for both, but yes you need a Dermatologist to investigate. If you can get copies of all the previous treatments and tests so you can physically hand it to them and say here’s what we’ve tried.

Brownhair3 · 01/03/2023 23:36

Thanks for all the advice. If it is an mrsa infection presumably I’ll just need to
take different antibiotic tablets for it and that will fix it? Just slightly catastrophisong and worrying that it’ll never go away😭 even though mrsa is resistant to methicillin can they just treat it with other tablets that aren’t methicillin based?

Thank you, unfortunately sudocrem didn’t make any difference but thank you anyway!

@Brownhair3 forgive me if I've missed you saying you've tried this, but have you tried dressing it?

I'd speak to a pharmacist - or see a nurse at the surgery- about a really absorbant dressing and the colloid/silver dressings. I wonder if something as simple as that would help it heal by allowing it to start drying out...You might need to consider trimming or shaving a bit of hair around it which is why I think seeing the nurse and getting them to dress it in a clinical setting would be useful.

At the very least, having it properly dressed might make it more comfortable for you.

Northby · 01/03/2023 23:54

You poor thing! It looks so sore. When I had a tooth extracted the dentist put in the traction site a poultice made of cloves as they are naturally antibacterial. (Apparently that’s the done thing!) Your post about your toothache reminded me of it. Could you try blending cloves with the medicinal honey you said soothed the area previously and applying it like a poultice? Just an idea I would try if I had no other options while I was waiting for swab results!

Newstartonwards · 02/03/2023 06:23

Escalate.
Ask your GP to refer you back and explain that you were seen 2 years ago and it didn’t help etc

difficult but I would ask for the area to be shaved by the nurse using a sterile environment - tie the rest of your hair out of the way. Multiple antibiotic creams and steroid cream and it to be dressed by the nurse and then dressings changed regularly so you aren’t itching it or touching it.

I had an infected c section that looked similar mine was negative for MSRA although they took multiple swap. I had multiple steroid and antibiotic creams - in the end it was a piece of ‘wire’ as it the internal stitches that pushed its way out. With the infection I was so wiped out I literally covered it in all the antibiotics and at the advice of a friend metanium and bandaged it and kept changing it daily. As soon as it looked slightly better I tried to keep it as dry as possible and it did eventually go away.

Brownhair3 · 06/03/2023 22:34

Thanks for all the suggestions. Still not gone yet unfortunately. I can’t tell if it’s worsening or not, I think it’s spread slightly up my scalp. Still not been able to be seen yet but hoping to be seen this week. it’s a big painful sticky mess now. It’s all red and raw but also yellowy around the edge

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2023 08:39

You need to trim the hair around it. At the very least that will demonstrate if it's spreading.

BMW6 · 07/03/2023 09:42

Have you managed to get a GP appointment to get it swabbed yet OP?

You surely need an antibiotic that will target whatever it is there specifically.

Also that wound needs proper management, which can be organised via GP.

Ponderingwindow · 07/03/2023 14:11

Do not shave the hair in the area.

do not do anything that could cut the skin even slightly.

Trimming short could be an option, but it needs to be done extremely carefully.

personally i wouldn’t do anything except getting very vocal about needing to be seen.

EmptyPlaces · 07/03/2023 14:12

Have you had any bloods done? It looks like the lupus scalp rash (not a medical professional, just someone who was recently Dx with lupus!)

LadyEloise1 · 24/03/2023 07:58

@Brownhair3
I do hope you got an answer as to what the infection is.
It looked very painful.
