Personally I do not think there will be any consequences for this girl who repeatedly kicks another girl in the head and is filmed doing it at school.

Depending on the previous /current history of the child there would be a lengthy suspension/transfer or we have previous permanently excluded for similar .

There is no way that would go unsanctioned and I work in a tough school . Attacks like that are thankfully not common place. Fights , yes but not brutal attacks like that.

Thesonglastslonger · 19/01/2023 18:10

I find it weird how little police are involved. A criminal assault should get the criminal arrested whether it takes place on school premises or not.

AndyWarholsPiehole · 19/01/2023 18:11

The other pupils didn't seem to react at all. Crazy

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 19/01/2023 18:12

I have seen students permanently excluded for similar- particularly if the victim was injured. The student filming would also likely face a temporary exclusion.

This sort of behaviour is really not common- I have seen it about twice in the last 5 years, and in both cases it led to permanent exclusion.

Sucessinthenewyear · 19/01/2023 18:13

Something is not right with that video.

I left teaching 5 years ago and violence like that definitely wasn’t common then.

Often, the police don't want to get involved- but the victim's parents could of course contact the police, and the threat of this might make the school take action.

The problem is the police often take months to do anything.

GreenLeavesRustling · 19/01/2023 18:15

I have been in teaching 20 years, in challenging schools and have never seen an attack anything like that. The marching over to the other child would have been the stage at which a member of staff intervened. This is not the norm in any of the schools I have worked in, nor in my children’s state school.
awful though. I hope that child is ok.

WhatNoRaisins · 19/01/2023 18:15

It was the abdomen rather than head but I remember being attacked like that in sight of teachers and nothing being done so it wouldn't surprise me. I don't know if it just gets normal after a while to people witnessing it

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 19/01/2023 18:16

Given the lack of uniform, and the large space, I wonder if it's a post-16 type study space rather than a classroom? I think there's probably not a teacher present.

Bellalalala · 19/01/2023 18:18

I guess it depends on the school. DDs secondary and Ds Secindary both had community police officers whose main role was in the school.

Dd was bullied by a boy in her year with the primary school not doing much. when they went to secondary they nipped it in the bud straight away. It was dealt with by the police officer.

Same boy attacked his brother in school. It’s was a fairly brutal fight. He was charged with (I think, it was a while ago) ABH.

Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 18:19

its very odd, she isn't dressed, and other students are not reacting - but it does look genuine - I would expect that film to be handed over to the police, and the perpetrator arrested

No, behaviour like this in schools is not ignored, it is very much dealt with -and that isn't common, either

Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 18:21

and, as it seems to be being discussed at the highest level, I expect that there will be action taken

I left school 33 years ago and my main thought was 'no weapon and only one piling into the kid instead of a crowd?'. Well, that and 'That's really handy for the school to have video evidence as the parents/legal representatives can't deny that it happened'.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 19/01/2023 18:22

I have seen this is schools, each one I have ever worked in. And it has certainly increased in frequency. But there is no way that this would go unpunished. It would probably not be an instant permanent exclusion unless there was a track record because it is difficult to exclude; lots of criteria has to be met and a huge amount of evidence is needed to show how we have supported the student. We would also support any police involvement, but that would be down to the parents.

And as a pp has said I, and many other staff, would intervene long before it got to that point.

TrashyPanda · 19/01/2023 18:24

It’s an absolute disgrace.

re uniform - Scottish schools are a lot less strict with uniform

Are you blind? In the video she kicked her twice in the back of the skull and twice straight in the face.

Doesn't surprise me either though. Nor the half-hearted response from the teacher (I assume she was there the whole time as the attacker marched over)

The poster was attacked in the abdomen

Phos · 19/01/2023 18:39

Doesn't surprise me. I was physically assaulted twice while I was a teacher and nothing was done.

EsmeSusanOgg · 19/01/2023 18:39

It is an assault. She is over the age of criminal responsibility and should be charged and prosecuted.

But I doubt that will happen.

Misty999 · 19/01/2023 18:46

What a nasty piece of work she could do a lot of damage the victim did not retaliate once no provocation at all. Rather upsetting and disturbing I wish I hadn't opened it

exLtEveDallas · 19/01/2023 18:52

Saw it on Twitter earlier by someone trying to get NS attention. It’s pretty horrific. I honestly think that girl needs a charge of GBH against her - kicking someone in the head like that could kill them.

I’d also charge the lad (sounds like a lad) filming it.

I find it pretty depressing that nobody came to her aid, not one of the other kids or the teacher. Shameful.

DelphiniumBlue · 19/01/2023 18:52

Something odd about the video- no one else reacting to it at all. People just carrying on at their computers. No one jumping up and pulling her off, or calling for help or even noticing what's happening. I can't imagine that their headphones drowned the sounds of a violent attack like that, what on earth was going on?

OhmygodDont · 19/01/2023 18:52

School is a strange place. Rules that no workplace would be allowed to enforce yet a place where assault never involves the police actually even caring.

Imagine at work a “detention” for no pen, or a confiscation of your phone being ok. Someone assaulting you at work and again it’s a work matter not a police matter. Our children deserve better and more from the police and school when it comes to violence. Hot on attendance and uniform and pens but want to smack someone? Oh please don’t do it again
