My neighbours all take their washing in at night. I hang mine out in the garden before I go to bed so it can dry in the morning (work FT so always in hurry in morning> Am I lowering the tone of the street?? My mother says yes!

I have been known to do this if I've let it stack up a bit, especially when I still worked outside the home. Goven the glorious weather we are currently enjpying I think I will start doing it again.

As secunda says another corner cut. Splendid.

choufleur · 09/07/2010 20:14

I've just hung a load out. It won't be brought in til the morning

Numberfour · 09/07/2010 20:23

YADNBU. If so, then so am I.
And I am Never U.

Redazzy · 09/07/2010 21:49

Never considered nocturnal hanging of washing as common. But I'm Irish so what do I know about the vagaries of the british class system!

However, I now only hang washing at night. If I hang it out in the morning, the temperatures are so high that everything is rock hard by the time it is dry. Hanging at night means that it dries more slowly and it stays nice and soft. I am becoming a domestic goddess at last! Household tips to MN.

ProfYaffle · 09/07/2010 21:51

I've put another load of washing out tonight

MorganMindy · 09/07/2010 21:57

My washing machine has just finished a load and I was thinking of leaving it till the morning to put it on the line (a vodka and coke and MN were calling) but now I know I'm not a complete weirdo for putting my washing out at night I'm off to do it!

TaurielTest · 09/07/2010 21:59

THis is a revelation!
I have just - in the last week - acquired my first ever washing line (moved from a flat), and I somehow thought you couldn't as the washing would get all dewy or something.
Hurrah. Will get nappies up pronto.

iamanewmum31 · 09/07/2010 22:01

Yanbu. What will the neighbours say!!! Have just done and hung out mixed colour washing too!!! At 10pm!!! Shocking ;)

DrivenToDistraction · 09/07/2010 22:01

Have just hung out my first two loads of nocturnal laundry. I've never tried it before

gibbberish · 09/07/2010 22:07

YANBU.

However, do NOT use Lenor and then hang your washing out or you may be forcibly evicted by sensitive-nosed neighbours.

taffetacatski · 09/07/2010 22:13

I tried it for the first time last night! Actually, I just forgot it was out on the line, have only recently started drying the clothes outside - long story, no line etc

I thought the dew would make it all wet again and ruin it somehow. Its never occurred to me that its somehow lowering the tone to leave it out - I assumed it was just a less efficient way of drying.

Its great. One less thing to stress about in the evening.

WandrinStar · 09/07/2010 22:17

YANBU. I do the same. But here's a cautionary tale...

This morning, I put on a pair of knickers that had been on the line, and shortly afterwards felt a sensation in the pant region such as I have never felt before.

A hasty investigation revealed that the culprit was a rather surprised bumble bee. (I think we were as surprised as each other).

If you're going to leave your knicks on the line overnight, make sure you check them first!

SoupDragon · 09/07/2010 22:24

Why buy a vibrator when you can have a free bumblebee in your knickers and have clean fresh smelling underwear at the same time?

taffetacatski · 09/07/2010 22:26

Lucky it was a surprised bumble rather than an angry wasp

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/07/2010 22:27

lol WandrinStar - glad neither of you suffered any adverse effects!

We always hang our washing up at night once the load has finished in the machine.

If it's going to be dry then it goes outdoors, if it's going to be wet, it hangs in the utility room.

None of our neighbours have washing out after it's dark - I couldn't care less!!

MorganMindy · 09/07/2010 22:50

LOL at 'sensation in the pant region'

ticklebug74 · 09/07/2010 22:58

Full load of washing on the line tonight and most nights in summer! Love this weather.

SlartyBartFast · 09/07/2010 22:59

talk about bee in your bonnett

adamadamum · 09/07/2010 23:20

I do it too in the summer, I wouldn't be able to keep up with the washing if I didn't! But yes, the little "washing line spiders" as I call them, do seem to be busier then so as another poster said, they need more of a shake. My washing isn't always 100% dry by 7am, but by the time I am home from the school run it usually is!

There is nothing wrong with doing this, it's common sense. Who cares if anyone thinks you're wrong for doing it? Don't think you'll get an ASBO!

SuiGeneris · 09/07/2010 23:26

YANBU. On the contrary, if having the washing out in the garden is shocking for some, by having it out at night you are minimising the likelihood that those of a more sensitive disposition might see it .

ProfYaffle · 10/07/2010 16:03

I collected last night's washing at about 9am this morning and was v pleased, dry but still soft, not baked to a crisp, most t-shirts won't need ironing. Squillions of tiny spiders though.
