My neighbours all take their washing in at night. I hang mine out in the garden before I go to bed so it can dry in the morning (work FT so always in hurry in morning> Am I lowering the tone of the street?? My mother says yes!

My washing always goes out at night in summer. Only thing is I find lots of spiders in it so have to give everything a good old shake.

bananalover · 08/07/2010 21:54

Just be careful what you hang out. I do this, and my DH went mad when someone nicked his England shirt...although they will probably bring it back any day now!!

mawbroon · 08/07/2010 21:57

YANBU I do this too

BigWeeHag · 08/07/2010 21:58

Always do this, especially the nappies. And if it rains, I leave them out until it stops raining and they get dry. I am an actual sloven.

bicep · 08/07/2010 21:58

It's the most sensible thing to do!! Why struggle with anotehr job in the morning rush, when instead you can have your washing already nearly dry.

CappuccinoCarrie · 08/07/2010 22:03

Why have I never thought of this before?!!!

judytzuke · 08/07/2010 22:05

Whiteflame - big granny pants for me all the time! But to my mother any washing out after dark is 'common'! (She's very laid back in other ways but occasionslly this kind of madness comes out of her mouth!)

YANBU I do it all the time. Although if I hear it raining in the night it ruins my nice sleep!

ILoveDolly · 08/07/2010 22:10

But not enough to get out of bed and get it, natch.

I love when my washing gets an extra rain rinse on the line. Especially if you've remembered to pull the shirts out flat when you peg them - then you don't have to iron them (oh, lets be honest I never iron them anyway!)

I have 2 loads out now. Whites I like to have some sunshine as the UV helps with stains.

ronshar · 08/07/2010 22:18

I always do.
Love being so lazy but dressed up as being efficient.

inveteratenamechanger · 08/07/2010 22:20

I love going out in the garden in the dusk when it is all quiet and still warm and hanging my washing out. YANBU at all.

McSteamy · 08/07/2010 22:21

I do this too!

cupofcoffee · 09/07/2010 10:21

I often put washing out at night. No one else round here seems to do it and never seen anyone doing it at any previous place I've lived so I did think I might be the only one until I read this thread.

ProfYaffle · 09/07/2010 10:29

Bit of a co-incidence seeing this thread, I put some washing out last night for the first time, I figured it had to be OK in this heat. When the weather's cooler I bring it in in case the dew makes it damper by morning.

Lucy85 · 09/07/2010 10:30

YANBU. I do it, and work FT.

Good for you for corner cutting. Also you could try leaving it out for a few days it it rains, I find eventually it stops raining (sometimes this takes months) and you can get it in.

Others I know in RL find this shocking too. They are part-timers and have their priorities wrong IMO.

Also have you tried bathroom wipes and floor wipes? You can get away with cleaning bathroom while little one is in bath.

duchesse · 09/07/2010 10:33

Yabnu- I put one load out last night and another this morning. We prefer to do the washin g at night to benefit from night rate electricity, but sometimes a daytime load is unavoidable- eg after the sheets have been changed. So night drying it is. I wouldn't in all honesty say it's dry by morning, because we live in damp devon, but it's certainly drier much earlier in the day this way. People can be so funny sometimes. I think it's a throwback to the days when housewives were judged by their neighbours on the Whiteness of the whites and the scrubbedness of their doorsteps

suitejudyblue · 09/07/2010 10:36

I have a long list of things I that I consider a bit common but leaving the washing out isn't one of them. I think its a minority sport as I'm the only one that I can see from my windows who ever has anything out after dark.
Recently I've even found that I can put out school uniform washed overnight at 7 and its ready to be worn by 8.30 - result.

ShatnersBassoon · 09/07/2010 10:38

I often put washing out to dry overnight in summer. Even towels get dried by the time I get up.
