In not wanting The Pope to visit uk at the taxpayers expense?

Apparently The visit wil cost 12m pounds. That's 12 million pounds to be pinched from other budgets. For a man who has been responsible for covering up crimes against children.

My MP will receive an email today and I will make my abhorrence very clear.

It strikes me as the ultimate in hand washing to say "It is a sin to use a condom - yes, I know there is an AIDS pandemic, but it is more important to make sure that conception is possible in every sexual act than to make sure people are protected against a dreadful disease. What you hoose to do is up to you - but I repeat, you go to Hell if you use a condom"

The Pope doesn't get to say who goes to hell or not. All he can do is preach the Gospel as the Catholic Church understands it and hope people follow.

Sex outside marriage is regarded by the Church as a grave sin too, and that is well known. Not that that stops many people from going ahead. I doubt if 100% of men, in Africa or anywhere else, would automatically start using a condom if the Pope gave it the thumbs up. I was horrified to see in a magazine my DD1 bought a few months back, an article about 'how to bring up the condom question delicately' -- the assumption being that this is not something you can expect a potential partner to do unless asked nicely (twas either Vogue or Glamour, can't remember)

Having only monogamous sex, within marriage, which the Catholic Church advises, is a 100% effective way to prevent the spread of AIDS, afaik.

But he isn't. There is no evidence whatsoever that the Pope is implicated in covering up any child abuse. You have to remember, 1.5% 5% of priests in the last 50 years have been involved in child abuse. Any abuse is horrible, but lets have some perspective, your less likely to get abused by a catholic priest than you would by your own family members or a member of the general public.

If you can't supply any evidence, don't make the assertion. it's false.

karla987 · 27/07/2010 21:01

Where's your evidence? Broad speculation based on NO evidence is not evidence. There is no evidence whatsoever that the Pope was involved in covering up any abuse. There is evidence of Pope Benedict creating strict regulation, giving money to help the victims, counseling, prayer groups etc. The Pope has done more than any other to prevent abuse and to help the victims.

The zero tolerance has been in place for a lot longer than just this year. This year it was put in more countries, and tighter regulations on seminary training etc.

AIBU not to give a shit?...they spend my money on all kinds of crap I'm opposed to...at least some people get enjoyment out of popey's visit and it does not involve death, destruction or lies..

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 27/07/2010 21:32

So the Pope decrees it is a crime against church law to ordain women priests. So lets change the law.

I am going to see him in Hyde Park in September. Not sure why really as I can't stand him, curiosity I suppose.
