Is this 'junk food'?

We had a party for dd's 5th birthday.
I had little sandwitches, mini pizzas, potato wedges, biscuits, cake.

Now being a mumsnetter i knew that some mums will be about the sweets. Fine i was prepared for that. But potato wedges? What is wrong with them? One mum said 'oh she always go for the junk food' when her dd ate the potato wedges first, the other moron said 'at least they eat it with hummus and it balances up, oh its ok once in a while' .

Funny thing is they were very happy with the olives (salt).

Do you call home made potato wedges 'junk food'? Potato, olive oil, oregano.

If I have to endure another kids party, even a family one, where the cake is nothing like real cake because its been made 'clean' and with coconut oil, or avacado (which I love), or bloody beetroot, and and and and - I shall bloody well scream.

Please in the name of all that's holy would you give me real cake, real sandwiches, real jelly, real ice cream. And whilst you're at it would you please stuff the 'sharks made out of water melon and packed with fruit salad' up your bloody jumper.

I was kicking my own backside for answering a zombie thread, and acknowledging I'd replied to a zombie thread.

Now why don't you go and find something else to do as well instead of picking up on genuine mistakes.

You do have something else to do?

LilacSpunkMonkey · 17/02/2016 17:22

Oh look, someone telling people to get off a thread and do something else.

Thread police alert!

OurBlanche · 17/02/2016 17:23

Good grief, was it so bad? I was being childish, it was a moment of light relief.. no... wait... the post immediately before mine that was you wasn't it? [waves hello]

Did you think my comment was to you? Sorry, but it wasn't. I was, as are many others, bemoaning the serial Zombie Reviver Grin

Yep, I thought your comment was to me. Confused

I posted initially then realised Id answered a zombie thread and posted what I was sitting her saying out loud to myself - oh dear God, its a zombie thread. So it was a bit of a surprise to see you'd replied as you did as I thought it was obvious I hadn't realised it was a zombie thread.

And Im not aware of whats going on re the serial Zombie Reviver. Hmm

Good grief, was it so bad? I was being childish

So was I Grin

Im putting my tetchiness down to the fact I haven't had proper food at a birthday party for a few years now.

Bring back real food I say!

OurBlanche · 17/02/2016 17:46

Real food or real party food?

From memory there is a real and hideous difference... which really could explain away all levels of tetchiness Smile

notonyurjellybellynelly · 17/02/2016 17:55

Real party food.

Egg sandwiches with a dollop of butter in them to make them nice and creamy and soft.

Saugage rolls.

Ice Cream

Jelly

Cake made the old fashioned way with butter, eggs, flour, sugar, and not the concoctions Ive had recently that taste like exactly what they are - grim!

Fizzy Pop.

Im in to healthy eating and love it that my grandchildren enjoy so many different foods but after 5 of them I am so over the new age alternative to all of the above. Grin Grin

*Dixie, Thank you! Count me in! Brew

Im sitting here laughing though because my eldest daughter kicked my in the ankle at wee my grandsons party the other day when a 'healthy birthday cake from a clean living ( or something) recipe book came out and I actually groaned and said to her - promise me I can have a real cake on my birthday, I promise I'll be good. Grin

But that said Im immensely proud of the 4 young women in my life for being who they are, and the way they handle motherhood. They really are quite something. As are my grandchildren, but I have to admit that it pains me a wee bit that at 15 months my youngest grandchild has never sat with me and dipped a bit of digestive into my cup of tea because he is categorically not allowed sugar or processed foods such as a mc donalds happy meal guacamole out of the supermarket fridge instead of homemade guacamoleGrin And I really do understand that a homemade oatcake dipped into homemade guacamole does actually taste like a digestive biscuit dipped in tea if you concentrate hard enough

My eldest daughter is very much into the healthy eating but she's kind of able to strike a bit of a balance with it all but then she is on child number 3, whereas the other mums are all on their first baby and competing with their friends. Grin

I really do hope people realise this post is quite a bit tongue in cheek. I thank God everyday for the young women in my life, the people they are, and the laughs we like to have with each other.
