To think some people are too brown!

I was in the park with DS yesterday and there was a lady who was soo brown she reminded me of a sausage! - The colour and the taut skin, it wasn't very flattering I didn't think, and I love being tanned, but I also know my limits!

Donatella Versace, eat your heart out.........!

booyhoo · 03/07/2010 23:59

what is TQ?

flibbertigibbert · 04/07/2010 00:02

Well, as someone with skin the colour of milk chocolate thanks to my mixed race heritage, I say that yes some people can be too brown if it's not their natural skin colour.

Brown doesn't bother me as much as orange though. I just can't understand how people don't see how orange they are - or do see but think it's a good luck.

CleopatrasASSp · 04/07/2010 00:09

TQ - thank you? possibly.

booyhoo · 04/07/2010 00:13

ah, i get it now TQ

Lifegoeson · 04/07/2010 00:14

BS - I know, what are they like! - Years ago my little brother suggested it as a name for our new kitten! And mum rather liked the idea, even at aged 9 I was agog!

Boo - Thank You! - For understanding and talking sense, I've had the right giggles since I posted this - too much sun 'p'raps!

Mito - Spit; frigging hilarious, imagine that as a new trend for summer weddings, bbq-granny! Mental note - never go on hols to Whitby! - Just in case!

Fedup - Yup, me too! - And I'm paddy too! - Well a plastic one!

Flibb - Exactly!! - Maybe you should have started this thread!

I meant to say 'look' not 'luck'. at a lucky orange tan

Lifegoeson · 04/07/2010 00:30

M - That's what I mean tho, some people look gorge with it, au naturel, no need to be sorry to us transparent wannabees! My DS is heading the same way as yours...

Poor DD, DS probably doesn't even notice it! - You should say to your 'friend', oh yeah, I was too busy slathering DD in lotion I forgot about him! - Thanks for the heads up about cancer!

I used to work with a woman who looked like Donatella Versace gone wrong! She used to go on the sunbed every single day (probably still does). She was 43 but everyone thought she was in her sixties. To make things worse she had awful Straggly blonde hair extensions. She was enough to put me off going in the sun forever!

xstaceyxcatx · 04/07/2010 00:42

There is a guy who lives near me who uses those tanning injections and i swear he is mahogany, my little boy asked why he looked so funny lol. I am at this point in time a funny blue white colour due to early pregnancy anemia and my friend told me today she thinks a corpse would have a better colour!!I like the sun however it doesnt share the same feelings towards me as i burn even with suncream on which is why i usually always have a cardi on these days

UndomesticHousewife · 04/07/2010 00:50

I knew what OP meant when I read the title, it wasn't until I read some posts that I realised it could be taken another way!!
I'm mixed race so I'm quite olive and look tanned all the time, but some people are so dark it looks so wierd. And others don't look tanned they look orangey which looks even worse.

I had a spray tan once because I wanted a 'healthy looking glow' as my own skin, even though is tanned tends to look sallow but I had to scub it off because it was a strange looking dark orangey brown and I was after the golden brown. In the sun I just get a matt colour but my sister goes a lovely golden colour.

Lifegoeson · 04/07/2010 01:04

Un - Thank you for contributing, phew, so glad I haven't offended you, as for sallow, yeah right! - Halle Berry and Leona Lewis are soo sallow!

But you understand what I'm saying... Thank god! You have enlightened me tho, really did not consider the title would be judged as racist, especially when I am sincerely fighting an ongoing battle with my 'racist' family, not outright, but the 'jokes', you all know them, yawn... But genuine apologies to those I have offended, or maybe thought other would be...

My feet are very brown, you can see the outline of my sandals, legs are pallid though.
We have an open air swimming pool near us, DD loves to go there and is always overjoyed to see leatherlady. this woman could be anywhere between 40 and 96, she is thin and stringy and mahogany coloured. DD loves her and lurks near her for ages waiting for her to turn over. I'm not sure what the attraction is, to me she resembles someone from the bodyworks exhibition.

purepurple · 04/07/2010 07:38

I work with lots of young girls whose only ambition in life seems to be to want to look like Umpa Lumpas.
They are obsessed with getting spray tans done in their own home. One day they are all normal looking, the next day they all look like David Dickinson.

Bumperlicious · 04/07/2010 07:44

Urgh at that picture!

I'm sure my mum says they used to use beer for tanning

How do people have time to get tans?! I work 4 days and have a 3 year old, I can't remember having 10 minutes to sit in the sun!

sunny2010 · 04/07/2010 09:39

Its mostly orange that I think looks ridiculous. For some reason the trend round here seems to be bright orange face and body with bright red/or really pink lipstick. Even the young ones are doing it and it ages most young girls by about 10 years! Its just so over the top if you have seen what I mean you will no what I am on about.

tiredfeet · 04/07/2010 11:04

I do sort of know what you mean, I don't understand people who spend ages trying to get a tan, especially if they get badly burnt in the process. I have seen some horrificly bright red people on the beach this year.

But despite being quite pale in the winter, I (like my mum and brother) have skin that goes brown the moment I look at the sun. So even after one day wearing high factor suncream, staying in the shade at midday etc I will already go a golden brown. Pisses me off a tiny bit that people will be judging me for having a tan. But not much

fartblossom · 04/07/2010 12:17

I am never going outside in the sun again after those pictures. Infact I think I'll become a vampire.

When I was younger (late teens/early 20's) I used to love getting tanned. Now Im happy no matter what colour my skin is.

Yesterday evening I was driving through town with my family and I saw a group of young women (Id say early 20's) obviously starting off on a night out (hen night or birthday it was) and I said to DH, they're having a competition to see who can look like a watsit the most They looked silly. Orange skin and bleached white hair. Too fake IMHO.

BTW I was another one who never even thought about racist issues until I read the thread. At first when I saw the first reply I honestly thought that mumsnetters LIKED the too tanned look It took a while for me to 'get' the racist link.

tiredfeet · 04/07/2010 12:21

oh just clicked on the link above, there is definitely such a thing as too tanned!! I look positively ghostly in comparison!
