no i did the same about 4 months ago a pair of shoes and a pair of trainers total was £18 for the two, a single pair of non-sale shoes would have cost £26 so i saved us £8...

Rockbird · 03/07/2010 19:41

Did exactly the same yesterday. Went to Clarks for a pair of Doodles and was supposed to get DD a pair of cheap but cute sandals for a wedding. Ended up with a lovely pair of Clarks white shoes instead of the sandals at half price. Two pairs, £29

CantSupinate · 03/07/2010 19:43

Oh heavens, I am a money anorexic and I would spend that amount for 2 pairs of fitted shoes for DC, sandals are wonderful and I believe healthiest for feet, but not always ideal (think gravel, sand, puddles or mud).

ImSoNotTelling · 03/07/2010 19:46

I did this too. One pair clarks trainers one pair start-rite t-bar sandal shoe thingys, both half price, brilliant.

How old is DD? You are only BU if DD is 6 months

LittleMissHissyFit · 03/07/2010 21:09

Sorry, not wishing to start bun fight, but what in heavens name does the (gruesome) expression money anorexic mean?

Is it another way of saying, miserly, tight, stingy Scrooge, penny pincher, skinflint, tightwad, cheapskate????

If so, think we have enough expressions, inventing another one involving a serious and life threatening illness seems in rather poor taste..

OK, back off my soap box now... as you were....

Otherwise 2 pairs of Clarks Shoes for less than £30... Nice one!!! DS has huge feet, in school shoes since last year, and doesn't start reception till September... Have yet to see school shoes discounted...

haribomum · 03/07/2010 21:19

YADNBU!!!

i too bought my dd 2 pairs of shoes today in the clarkes sale!! one pair of beautiful purple leather shoes reduced to nine pound!!! bargain!!

and another pair reduced to fourteen pound!!!

and the best thing is when i got home my dd descovered the purple ones were hiding a little doll in the sole of the shoe and went to bed overjoyed

MrsSawdust · 03/07/2010 21:22

Yanbu. I did this yesterday. One pair of smart start rite shoes and one pair of crocs for beach / casual / garden etc.

HappyMummyOfOne · 03/07/2010 22:07

YANBU, DS has lots of pairs and I often buy more than one at a time.

mumeeee · 03/07/2010 23:08

YANBU. You bought the shoes in a sale and one pair of non sale Claks shoes would cost at least that much.

PortiaNovmerriment · 03/07/2010 23:10

I did the same myself this week- a pair of trainers and some canvas shoes for £17. I'm not exactly flush, but it's a chance to get good quality footwear for supermarket prices.

mumbar · 03/07/2010 23:16

yanbu ds always has clarks school shoes and they cost me £30/34 a time. He then has clarks trainers in sale and another sale pair if needed.

I'm a single mum on a low wage but you only get one pair of feet afaic

beammeupscotty · 03/07/2010 23:32

DP is unreasonable.
DD is a girl - she NEEDS shoes and handbags to live.

MaureenMLove · 03/07/2010 23:34

YAB very U, FGS!!!!

You should have bought yourself two pairs of shoes!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 07:03

Then I am being VU,in the last week DD has had four pairs of shoes . She has exceptionally thin feet and we really struggle to find any that don't slop around. She got a pair of wedge canvas things that she slept with the first night she had them, two pairs of espadrilles and a pair of sandals.

LynetteScavo · 04/07/2010 07:21

YADNBU!

Your DP is a man...what does he know about what shoes a girl needs?

Have you emphasised how much you saved?

Bonsoir · 04/07/2010 07:57

Lovely shoes are crucial to girl and woman's mental health - tell him you are saving money on future therapy bills!

rainbowfizz · 04/07/2010 08:10

kreecher where did you find those? I struggle for dd1 for thin feet.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 08:24

Rainbow, the wedge things were in Bata in Zug and the espadrilles and sandals were purchased in Belgium. How continental we are!

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/07/2010 08:28

When we do the shoe shop for DD (2.10) we always get a minimum of three pairs (four last time ) plus I sometimes buy "top ups" so YANBU at all.

Having said that, she's currently obsessed with her shiny red shoes and the others don't get much of a look in!

mumbar · 04/07/2010 08:37

and I do think girls need more different types of shoes iyswim.

DS has school shoes, trainers/pumps, boots/crocks depending on season.

Girls however need sandals, crocks, dolly shoes etc as their outfits vary more.

Boys: trousers/ shorts and tshirts (long and short sleeved) jumper.

girls: dresses, shorts, 3/4 lengths, trousers, skirts, leggings etc etc

Thats a general list (don't wanna be flamed for being gender stereotyping!) but imo pumps just don't do with pretty summer dresses altho fine with leggings/shorts and vice versa. So YES she needs at least 2 pairs OP imho!!!

and I have a boy!!!!

love the pointing out the saving idea - brilliant

MarthaQuest · 04/07/2010 08:38

Sorry guys but all this talk of how ladies Need shoes to survive blah blah blah is not exactly helping the feminist cause

Marne · 04/07/2010 08:49

YANBU

I bought dd1 2 pairs last week in the sale (trainers and red t-bar shoes) for the price of 26.00.

Also bought dd2 two pairs of kickers in the sale last week, a pair of canvas boots from Next and yesterday i ordered her some sandals from joules , i think IABU .

Girls need lots of shoes .

DastardlyandSmugly · 04/07/2010 08:56

DD (22m) has lots of shoes but she only ever wants to wear bloody crocs.

I don't think you were unreasonable at all.

SandyBits · 04/07/2010 08:59

Martha I like shoes. I'm still a feminist. So shoot me.

Rockbird · 04/07/2010 09:01

And that, Martha, is exactly why 'feminists' piss most people off. You can be lots of things, isn't the point that we have the freedom to choose? Or do you agree with the OP's DP who is trying to control her activities?
