secondary schools on here from people who probably have no bloody idea what their local school is like

so effing what if you can afford the ponciest private in your area - it certainly hasn't made you polite as to others circumstances.

she's sounding a bit annoyed.

Does Pimms go with strawberry scones?

ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:25

but maybe they know what their local school is like - and it is crap?

Who has been annoying you?

mistressploppy · 27/06/2010 18:25

Good point

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 18:27

maybe in their opinion zzen then again most of the population don't really have that much of a choice. or shock horror want to support their local schools for the greater good.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:27

it's true the vast majority of people have no choice

BigWeeHag · 27/06/2010 18:30

Pimms goes with everything IME.

Lots of schools are struggling/ failing but I do always feel sorry to see them described as rubbish or awful - that does not help the kids that have to attend them. One of the schools I did teaching practice in changed it's name not long ago, at the request of the pupils, so they could have a fresh start.

TheFallenMadonna · 27/06/2010 18:32

I wonder what they mean by "crap"? I suspect it means "not what I want for my child". The school I work at is the undersubscribed one in town. But I know what we do, and who we do it with, and what they do, and we are not crap by any stretch of the imagination. Even OFSTED's (and it can only be a matter of time before Crap is an official OFSTED rating I reckon). I can see why, looking in from the outside, people see lower than average results, and scary looking children, and shudder at the thought of their DC coming our way. And that's fine. But we are not crap.

ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:34

friend told me she and her dh left England because their local school was so crap.

crap for her = broken windows, general air of neglect (buildings), violence, drug problem - primary

I'd be heavily swayed by those things too tbh

ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:34

if Pimms goes with anything, I fancy it with meringue. Meringe and cream.

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 18:35

i need a large pimms, the heat and the threads are getting to me! ds has just completed his gcses too and here i read about how he probably won't get into a good university etc etc and it just depresses me.

OP posts:
hocuspontas · 27/06/2010 18:36

But most of that has 'crap' and 'rubbish' parenting at the core.

ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:37

yes the teachers are not to blame for that. I agree. What are you having with your pimms?

hocuspontas · 27/06/2010 18:37

lol! That last post was not aimed at you sea!
It was at zzenagain's 18:34 post

ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 18:40

lol

you can have areal biggie southeast. Honestly so much hype about "good" universities. How big is the percentage of people who ever complete a degree? I bet it is still a very smaller number seen against the total working age population.

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 18:41

i agree with your point. and i bet most of them have a real mix of pupils but some just see the worse and will take that as a true representation of the school. vodka will do with the pimms (crap parent alert)

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 27/06/2010 19:14

hear hear sea ... another state school supporter here ...I wouldn't send my kids to a private school if you paid me...all those wanky shorts and boaters

pagwatch · 27/06/2010 19:23

I agree but then people are stupid and rude about the whole schoolingthing.

I get really at the threads 'should i send my DC to independent or state' when the answer is always ( if you can afford to chose IT DEPENDS ON THE BLOODY SCHOOL!

There are great schools and crap school and often whether you pay fees or not is not the determining factor.

I really really wish though that when responding to wankers being rude about state schools , the default setting was not to assume everyone thinks like that and to be rude about private schools andtheir pupils/parents.

My Dcs are in state and private. I am the same person at both and the parents are pretty damn similar too

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 19:59

it's the same here in rl for me too. get parents telling me how they wouldn't dare send their child to the school my child goes to even though they know he attends it.

find it irritating, why do they feel the need to justify their choice to me by making assumptions about the school my son goes to.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 20:02

ask them why

why are you saying that to me whenyou know my son attends that school?

and just wait

roomonthebroom · 27/06/2010 20:02

I worked as a teacher for 7 years in the secondary school my DD would eventually go to. I left because it IS crap. Hell will freeze over before DD goes there.

Luckily we can afford private schooling or would have to move house. When I first started teaching I didn't agree with private schooling at all, thought it was ridiculous, experience has changed my opinion. And I'm not a show-offy wank.

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 20:04

depressing post broom

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 27/06/2010 20:08

I think some people would think my sons state school was crap..At least 60% esol, served by at least 3 council estates ..but in fact imo its a fantastic school

southeastastra · 27/06/2010 20:17

it's the same here suspect, yet we are surrounded by some of the best schools - so i guess we're an easy target

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/06/2010 20:30

roomonthebroom with your insider view of that particular school, can you say in what ways it was crap and what you think the reason was that it had reached that state?

Just like to hear from someone in the know really
