Just a thought that may help;

?Metaphysical solipsism is the variety of idealism which is based on the logically valid argument that no reality exists other than one's own mind or mental states. The individual mind is the whole of reality and the external world has no independent existence. ...

Dagnamit - meant to just type artichoke

ARTICHOKE [GRIN]

porcamiseria · 24/06/2010 16:43

some deserve a proper answer

lamplighter · 24/06/2010 16:44

I meant

I've been thinking about this thread, and I think that what I want to say is that I totally understand your feelings on this subject.

Once, I wrote a response out, and it took me, well, minutes, and it was quite long. Not very very long, I suppose it was about...hmm, probably about 4 paragraphs. Each paragraph had about 7 sentences in and each sentence, probably, on average, about 15 words. Anyway after I had written it out, it appeared that lots of people had already said what I wanted to say.

I thought.."How embarrassing" and so I just wrote another reply which just said:

And therefore I think that you are maybe being a little bit unreasonable to only want to respond using 1 word answers.

In my opinion I think you should probably only reply using those little emoticon things. So, for example, if you agree you'd put and if you didn't you'd just put and so on. This is interesting

Paragraphs are your friend here. I don't bother reading posts that are not in proper paragraphs, just too hard IMO.

See I have totally taken the time to read this whole thread and I can say that I totally agree with absolutely everything that ShirleyKnot has taken the time to type out.

I do wish I had made use of handy the smiley now though in the first instance.

Overuse of the word 'artichoke' has made me feel depressed.

Tidey · 24/06/2010 17:02

Can I throw in a quick 'asparagus' or would that be taking the argument a step too far?

QSincognitoErgoSum · 24/06/2010 17:02

It is up to you what you write, and up to the op if she bothers to read.

However.

And also, it could be argued that as a central branch of metaphysics is ontology, the investigation into what types of things there are in the world and what relations these things bear to one another. The metaphysician also attempts to clarify the notions by which people understand the world, including existence, objecthood, property, space, time, causality, and possibility.

Before the development of modern science, scientific questions were addressed as a part of metaphysics known as "natural philosophy"; the term "science" itself meant "knowledge" of epistemological origin. The scientific method, however, made natural philosophy an empirical and experimental activity unlike the rest of philosophy, and by the end of the eighteenth century it had begun to be called "science" to distinguish it from philosophy. Thereafter, metaphysics became the philosophical enquiry of a non-empirical character into the nature of existence.

So Yabu.
