in thinking that this might be a positive pregnancy test?

I hope this link works. The resolution of the image is really low so it is blurry, but there is a faint pink line to the left of the control line, which has become fainter since I took the test (yesterday).

I am asking because I spent the whole of yesterday, having taken this test, excited that I was pregnant. My DH can clearly see the line too. Then I took a digital to confirm - negative. Again this morning, a digital, two more from the same pack as this test, and another, different ebay cheapie. All negative. Am I going mad?

I am going to the doctor's as I am 47 days into my cycle (previous two cycles 32 and 28 days). I had low cramps above my pubic bone on Tuesday, and a sharp twinge on my right side on Tuesday evening.

My one hope is that I possibly could have ovulated on 15th, meaning I'm only 9 dpo so maybe I'm pregnant but it's too early to show, and that this particular test was just ultra-ultra-sensitive?

Or is it just a negative and I'm being crazy?

My sister always gets positives with the sorts of tests shown in your pic. But she has never been pg yet. Sorry.

But you never know, if you have other symptoms. Just wait and see is all I can suggest. Fingers crossed for you.

belly36 · 24/06/2010 13:05

I had that type of test and it showed up my pg sooner than other tests did.

Good luck.

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 13:08

ShinyandNew that's good to know. I had a vanishing positive on a test last week, which is not supposed to be possible. I'm thinking of just throwing out the cheapies and doing a digital whenever I'm two weeks late or more, and that's it. It's too confusing this way!

They say a line is a line but the more I look into it the more 'anomalies' I seem to find.

Sorry, to me it looks more like an evaporation line.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Fingers crossed for you.

CoinOperatedGirl · 24/06/2010 13:10

I have had a false positive with those tests too. To give you hope though, I had ovulated far later than I realised and was indeed pg that cycle, my dates were about 2 weeks out when I had my 12 week scan.

Firawla · 24/06/2010 13:13

it does look like a feint line, i would have thought thats a positive too...
hopefully the dr will be able to confirm for you and i hope its good news for you
btw i do know someone who always comes up negatives on tests even if she is pregnant, she has to have it confirmed by scans, so you never know

StealthPolarBear · 24/06/2010 13:14

was it a sainsbury's one?
I had a false positive with those

MrsC2010 · 24/06/2010 13:18

How long did you leave it for? I got my positive on one of those, and then on a First Response. Have you tried First Responses? They tend to be the most responsive, I would be surprised if an internet cheapie picked it up and one of them didn't.

Alternatively if you are only 9DPO potentially wait a few days and try again.

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 13:27

It's mad to hear all these false positives!
I'm starting to think that's what it is.

It can't be an evap line, I don't think, because in real life it is very clearly pink (not grey/white or anything).

Damn it.

blueshoes · 24/06/2010 13:30

I have never had a false positive on those tests. However faint, a positive, for me, is a positive.

emmie31 · 24/06/2010 13:34

When I thought I was pregnant with my first child the 1st test I took, the line was very very faint, think I tested too early as when i tested a week later the line on the test was a gert biggen! and definately positive. good luck and fingers crossed

Wanderingsheep · 24/06/2010 13:40

It looks like a very faint pink line.

Evaporation lines are supposed to be colourless so I would have said that it was positive. Perhaps wait a while and then do another brand of test.

Fingers crossed for you

Tangle · 24/06/2010 13:43

How long after you took the test did you take the photo? How long after you took the test did the line appear?

I've never, to my knowledge, had a false +ve. I have had to early miscarriages that I only know about because I'd used tests like those.

Have you come across this site? A lady with a bizarre fascination, but its quite entertaining and quite informative!

Wanderingsheep · 24/06/2010 13:44

What brand of test is it?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/06/2010 13:45

Well since you've posted in AIBU, YABU for taking a test so early. Wait until 14 DPO and then try testing if no period.

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 13:51

Hey Tangle, yes, I know that site well, lol! The line appeared five minutes after I did the test, and has stayed there ever since. I took the photo a couple of hours ago (and did the test yesterday at 8am exactly) - but the line has remained there since 8.05 yesterday, getting a little fainter.

The test brand is 'One Step'. I got 15 for £2.99 plus P&P on ebay.

You're right Can'tSleep, except I don't really know when I ovulated (9 days ago is just a guess based on one symptom. I haven't been tracking). I'm on day 47, so I figured any day was a fair day to test!

I'm positive with a test from B&M that looks just like the one you've got the lines never got darker on different tests from the pack even after 2 weeks. I've had a scan at 8wks+5 its all confirmed. If its the same sort of brand it measures HCG levels at 15 I don't know what the units are. I think some digitals don't register below 50.

Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys all do 2 pack basic pregnancy tests for about £4 that should show up positive in your morning urine at 10dpo.

Good luck

withorwithoutyou · 24/06/2010 13:54

I've only ever had true positives on those tests and normally they're positive earlier than other tests.

I think digi tests have a higher HCG threshold than those ones do, so those would show earlier.

Mind you, last time I got a positive on one of those at 10dpo I also got a positive on a digi at the same time. The result of that test will be here on Tuesday

Good luck! Hope you get the answer you want.

If you keep the tests do the lines tend to fade anyway?sorry if this is a silly question!

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 13:57

Thank you everyone! It gives me hope, at least (and a little dose of reality, too...) Glad that those of you who are holding your babies (in your bellies or your arms ) got your BFPs! The reason I'm so confused is that I've done other tests from the same pack and they're coming out negative.

Hopefully the doctor will give me a quantitative blood test. Do they tell you there and then?

OP posts:
lilllysa · 24/06/2010 13:59

That looks exactly like the "ultra" ones they sell in packs of 2 at the local pound shop! . . I got BFP with those about a week before a first response showed BFP.

Good luck!

ANTagony · 24/06/2010 14:30

At my local GP surgery they don't even take the blood for tests. You get an appointment at the blood clinic held at the local hospital then wait typically 48hrs for the result (excluding weekends).

Wanderingsheep I have my tests and the lines are still there but because the background is yellowing/ pinking look fainter.

Wanderingsheep · 24/06/2010 14:46

The reason I ask is because I have taken four pregnancy tests and they were all +ve but the first one I took was very very faint to the point that I wasn't even sure it was positive. The first one that I took has now faded so that it looks negative. It's from a week ago but I'm now being paranoid!

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 14:54

wanderingsheep I don't know what's going on with me, but I know what's going on with you. You're pregnant! Congratulations!
