in thinking that this might be a positive pregnancy test?

I hope this link works. The resolution of the image is really low so it is blurry, but there is a faint pink line to the left of the control line, which has become fainter since I took the test (yesterday).

I am asking because I spent the whole of yesterday, having taken this test, excited that I was pregnant. My DH can clearly see the line too. Then I took a digital to confirm - negative. Again this morning, a digital, two more from the same pack as this test, and another, different ebay cheapie. All negative. Am I going mad?

I am going to the doctor's as I am 47 days into my cycle (previous two cycles 32 and 28 days). I had low cramps above my pubic bone on Tuesday, and a sharp twinge on my right side on Tuesday evening.

My one hope is that I possibly could have ovulated on 15th, meaning I'm only 9 dpo so maybe I'm pregnant but it's too early to show, and that this particular test was just ultra-ultra-sensitive?

Or is it just a negative and I'm being crazy?

Thankyou I didn't mean to hijack! This thread just got me thinking about it.

No worries wanderingsheep! You weren't hijacking at all! And even if you were, hijack away!

Went to the doctor's and I have to have a blood test in the morning. They might manage to get the results back in the afternoon.

Fingers crossed. I really really hope I'm just testing too early. I took the test in and she agreed it looked positive, and that it was weird my period was so late.

Look if you are going crazy, forget the ebay cheapies, forget the expensive digitals, and go and buy a twin pack of First Response cassette tests. Do one now, and if its negative, one with your first morning urine tomorrow. It is the earliest test on the market and my pregancies have all shown at 9 dpo on them.

Dibbydab · 24/06/2010 17:17

I used those tests from Ebay - very feint line at first and for each test used on the following 3-4 days.

Now sat here awaiting arrival of feint line in 5 weeks. Fingers crossed for you

sanielle · 24/06/2010 17:22

Op the positive test was that first morning wee? And the others later in the day?

Maybe that is the reason for the discrepancy?

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 17:50

Hi sanielle, it was first morning wee, then two later in the day, so did another two with first morning urine again this morning.

Thanks sloanypony (great name by the way ). I will do that.

That's a proper line, with colour, not an evap. line. It's positive, but please read my note below. I recognise those test strips - they are very good, very sensitive, so sensitive they can pick up a positive result at 9dpo, sometimes even 7dpo, IME.

The downside of that sensitivity is that you are confirming a pregnancy which is still in the process of implanting, and at this stage, the rate of loss is shockingly high (it is thought that as many as 70% of conceptions do not manage to implant, even in younger women), and this is why so many people say they have false positives - when they retest a few days later, they get a may get negative as they had a "chemical pregnancy" which came to nothing. Actual false positives are very rare. A few years ago, women would have been totally unaware of these very, very early losses, and the period would just start as normal.

I am not trying to be negative, but I think
you just need to think to your self, well, something IS getting started there, I'll retest in a few days and see how it's going (the test would be darker second time), but use the same type of test so you are comparing like with like. By 14dpo you should get a positive on any test.

IMO (as frequent user of those tests), I'd say that's actually a very good line for 9dpo, and I'd be very encouraged and it's very hopeful that it's already kicking out a fair bit of preg hormone. Levels should double about every 3 days, so although your preg strip can't give you a number, it should get darker.

BTW,
unless you are having IVF or other treatment I think you may find your doc unwilling to give you a blood test to check hormone levels, especially at this stage.
Good luck with your retest in a few days.

WitchyWooWoo · 24/06/2010 19:27

use a first response test. i bought cheapy ones from ebay and didnt show a pos result until 2 weeks after my first response test.

takethatlady · 24/06/2010 20:11

Thanks oldmum and witchywoowoo. Both underselling yourselves a bit with those names, I'm sure!

Especially oldmum, that's amazingly helpful advice. The doctor said either it's an early mc (but in the sense that you suggest - not something to worry about or be overly upset about) or very very early, hence the conflicting results. The blood test is in the morning but I'm prepared for it to be negative, too, and for that negativity to be still inconclusive at this stage.

I'm going to wait until Saturday and test again, and then wait again until Monday/Tuesday. Fingers crossed. But thanks for thinking the line actually exists - I started to worry I was going out of my mind!

Ive used these with all 4 pg and they have always been right. A lot of my friends used them as well and I dont know anyone who had a false positive.

haribomum · 24/06/2010 21:09

takethat lady i had an experience very similiar to yours! i ovulated late into my cycle and wasnt as far preg as i thought i was! i took a test identical looking to this, from my local pound shop!!, and had a faint line v similiar to yours! and indeed it was a bfp dd3 is sat here with me now aged 6months!! i took a clearblue digital a few weeks later which again confirmed a bfp!! good luck my fingers r crossed 4 u !!

takethatlady · 25/06/2010 07:27

Thanks haribomum! After only BFNs yesterday I got another BFP this morning - but only when I accidentally knocked the wick off the cellulose strip and the pooled dye in the sandwich between them travelled up the test and remained stuck at the test line. My DH did the same test to find out what happened and it travelled up the test again and then the whole test remained negative. So peculiar!

One hour until blood test ...

OP posts:
Wanderingsheep · 25/06/2010 08:03

Good luck with the blood test!

I reckon that it's positive and that you've tested very early with a sensitive test, particularly now that you've had another BFP this morning!

Fingers crossed! Let us know how you get on!

takethatlady · 25/06/2010 09:45

Test over, a week until results.

First Response unequivocally negative

I think I am just an idiot who keeps producing BFPs by doing strange things with tests ...

I WANT SOME WINE!!! But I'll have to wait and see

Good luck for you wanderingsheep - have you done any more tests?

I had one that looked like that almost exactly a year ago. DD is sitting next to me now.

haribomum · 25/06/2010 11:29

i am sure it is indeed a bfp takethatlady! thinking of you and please let us know!!

Sorry you're having to wait for a week for the blood test result.

As other posters have mentioned, how strong your pee is could affect the result of a test at this stage - strong, dark pee may give a positive while dilute, see through pee probably won't!

Sadly, and I know it's difficult (I'm the kind of person who tests every day from 7dpo when TTC!), you have to wait, retest and see what happens next.

Fingers crossed!

takethatlady · 25/06/2010 12:51

[wonders what qwertpoiuy said ....]

Thank you ladies. I will try to be patient. [big impatient face emoticon...]

qwertpoiuy · 25/06/2010 14:13

Sorry, Takethatlady - I had only seen the picture on your OP, and immediately mentioned about myself having the same result years ago - then I read the rest of your post and realised you had since had a negative test. It teaches me to read the thread before I jump in with a reply...

Actually, I've now noticed others posts are on the same wavelength as mine! The reason my line was so faint was because I might have conceived very near to when my next period was due - but it got stronger and stronger and I now have a boisterous but adorable 3yo DD!

Wanderingsheep · 25/06/2010 14:32

You have to wait a week? Oh how frustrating!

I took another (digital) test last night after having a wobble yesterday and it was positive and said 2-3 weeks so I think I am 5 weeks today. I'm a bit nervous as my first pg ended in MC, although I've had DD since then but we haven't told anyone yet.

I really hope you get a positive result!

sanielle · 25/06/2010 14:48

Hope you get your positive too xx!

takethatlady · 25/06/2010 20:12

lol qwert! I thought you'd given me some abuse . Thanks sanielle, and yiiippppeeeee for you wanderingsheep! Time for a trip to the doctor and to start believing it's true, I think! (For you, not me. Two FRs now, both neg, so I'm obviously an idiot. My new theory is that separating the wick and the celluloid strip after 3-4 mins meant that the pooled dye travelled up the test and got stuck half way, so it looked like a BFP but was in fact just an idiot line...)

You've given me a great idea for a new name qwert ... haven't you been tempted by dirtyquwerty?
