mosschops30 · 23/06/2010 09:57

because I want to watch the football! (and he will watch it with me).

He'll miss 45 mins of school, hes only in reception.

So AI a bad parent and AIBU?

its more than a group match though

Galena · 23/06/2010 10:03

No it's not, Three, it's a group match - if they'd played well in the first 2 there wouldn't be such a hype about this one. It's unlikely we'll get through, tbh, so at least we won't have this fuss for much longer.

GypsyMoth · 23/06/2010 10:04

yes,but this could be last game we play...

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 23/06/2010 10:07

YABU

trixie123 · 23/06/2010 10:08

record it and keep the radio off until you get back

3isthemagicnumber · 23/06/2010 10:09

YANBU-regardless of your views on football, it is a current event affecting the 'mood' of the nation- ie citizenship. Go for it

funnysinthegarden · 23/06/2010 10:11

the school prob won't like it. I wouldn't bother. Watch the end when you get home

Greensleeves · 23/06/2010 10:12

citizenship lol

I think it's downright weird that we have elevated men's football to the level where schools are closing early

I don't like the message it sends to children, especially girls

most girls don't even KNOW that we have decent international teams in women's sports

imagine the women's netball being on every pub telly in the country and schools kicking out early so we could all wave flags and have our faces painted

however, 45 minutes of reception is neither here nor there, so if you want to do it, you won't be making any substantive difference to your dc's education

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/06/2010 10:15

Good point about lack of recognition for women's sport Greeny (some of which we are rather good at)

mosschops30 · 23/06/2010 10:15

oh dear greeny you really are sounding like a stereotypical mnetter.

Who gives a dam about womens football, its not an argument about sexism and 'elevating mens football' it just happens to be something that is bringing the country together for one day, making us forget about the budget or everything else thats crap in life. Whats wrong with that?

curryfreak · 23/06/2010 10:15

YABU. And i couln't give a toss if it's the last game 'we' play.
The 'mood' of the nation. What a joke.
I'm very pleased to say that i know numerous people, men and women who really couldn't care less.
How refreshing that is!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/06/2010 10:15

As to the OP, YABU

amumm · 23/06/2010 10:15

Yabu bigtime.

It's sending ds1 the wrong signals about school and it's disrespectful to the teacher. End of. Record it.

curryfreak · 23/06/2010 10:17

Greensleeves,- you're spot on. What i particularly dislike about football in
is the message it sends to girls.

Greensleeves · 23/06/2010 10:17

lol, I AM a stereotypical MNer (only I can't afford Boden)

"it's not an argument about sexism" - yes, it is

"who gives a damn about women's football" - nobody, that's my point - and I didn't mention women's football

forgetting the budget is NOT a good thing

and I do think it's socially disastrous (esp for girls) that men's sport gets such disproportionate coverage

closing the schools for a football match ffs

mosschops30 · 23/06/2010 10:17

perhaps most of you should move to Wales where you can just come and pretend its not happening.
Maybe its all to do with my northern upbringing, I imagine the rest of you are southern jessies

OP posts:
ShadeofViolet · 23/06/2010 10:18

YANBU to want to - its more than a group match, it might be Englands last game!!

YABU if you do it though.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/06/2010 10:18

I am a southern Jessica

Greensleeves · 23/06/2010 10:19

LOL

I am from Stoke

mosschops30 · 23/06/2010 10:21

greeny as a seasoned mnetter I have a lot of respect for you usually ..... but not today

lots of womens in sport are great tennis/gymnastics/swimming/athletics and people watch that.
But rugby and football are essentially 'mens games' despite the fact that we try and tell our children that they can do anything, and thats fine. (ds1 does gymnastics and swimming)

I am quite interested in the football, but I hate the ridiculous level of hype. I'm on the fence about schools closing early, but if they don't (and there are probably as many children/parents who don't care about football as those who do), I really don't think you can justify taking a child out of school early.

mosschops30 · 23/06/2010 10:22

greeny if youre south of the tyne youre southern love
