He'll miss 45 mins of school, hes only in reception.

It's only fricking football. WIll you take him out of school for the olympics? or the wimbledon final?
Take a radio with you on the school run and try to get a sens eof persepctive.

There seems to be feverish excitement at my workplace, we keep getting emails begging us to go and watch the match in big communal areas on big screens (apparently they're scared everyone will watch it on their office computers and apparently that could crash the system).

YANBU though if it's that important to you, we are a household totally uninterested in football but I can see that the world cup makes a lot of people very happy/excited, I don't mind things being arranged round it for a bit.

Just to let you all know that I did not take ds1 out of school.
I left the house at 3.20 and sky+ it so missed the defoe goal, but saw it all when i came home.
No worries, and next game is sunday so no issues
