how old are yours?

I'm in the process of moving and found some knickers that are at least 20 years old. Haven't thrown them out - they've seen 11 house moves, seems churlish to deprive them of this one.

CrankyTwanky · 18/06/2010 22:24

I bought a multi-pack of maternity pants when pg with DD (8).
I have two pairs left I think.

They are my post-natal/period pants.

activate · 18/06/2010 22:24

chastity belts lol - considers the 4 kids - err nope

activate perhaps you got a faulty one then. As, evidently, did I...

LarkinSky · 18/06/2010 22:25

Definitely some that are 10 years old. Thinking about it, it's the strange kinky ones I bought when DH and I first got together, you know with feathers and satin and ties he could undo with his teeth. Still look like new, still hideously unsexy. I was a student, what can I say?!

NB, this thread has motivated me to clean out my knicker drawer, no matter how skint I am, I'd rather have less knickers than some of the old ones in there. And why on earth am I holding onto bras some 2/3 cup sizes too small?

Shaz10 · 18/06/2010 22:27

Oh now the bra drawer is full of old bras memories.

silentcatastrophe · 18/06/2010 22:30

Ha ha ha ha!! Just wondering why anyone would want to recycle a pair of pants. Into what? More knickers ha ha ha! They just keep going on! Some of mine are ancient. I had to throw a pair away the other day because I didn't need to take them off. They fell away

DilysPrice · 18/06/2010 22:30

I said about a very young new chap at work "I've got underwear older than him", and people looked at me strangely, and I had to pretend I was joking, but I was actually doing silent mental arithmetic, because at least one of my bras has my name tape sewn into it by my mother (it's 1980s M&S nylon and totally indestructible, though I have dyed it from its original dingy grey to black).

Knickers don't last very long though unless they're uncomfortable ones I save for best.

LarkinSky · 18/06/2010 22:31

The thing is, many bras don't wear out - especially the posh occasion wear (strapless, itchy lacy etc) ones. It could be £100s of pounds worth to throw out. Well, maybe £200 total. But still.

But who would want my old bras, even if they're in good condition? Would a smaller-boobed friend be offended if I offered, do you think?

LetThereBeRock · 18/06/2010 22:31

I'm still not sure if I'm impressed or horrified,or both.

Are they still in good condition,or could they pass as a g-string now?

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 18/06/2010 22:33

Depends on what you mean by 'good condition'. No holes, the elastic's still ok, but they're a bit grey and shapeless. Not what you'd wear if hoping to..er..impress. But otherwise fine.

tethersend · 18/06/2010 22:40

12 years? I'd change them if I were you.

Or at least turn them inside out.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2010 22:51

Please watch this very funny thing about knickers, here.

Am almost crying with laughter. I think the music has a lot to do with it.

Sassybeast · 18/06/2010 23:10

I have some very big black period pants which are knocking on a bit and a pair of obscenely expensive but hideously impractical ones that DH bought me years ago. Apart from that, I'm a bit of a knicker snob - I always have to have matching bra and knickers - when I buy a bra, I'll buy 2 or 3 pairs of matching knickers. Is that really bad/sad/mad ?

ZZZenAgain · 18/06/2010 23:11

what colour are they?

I had some of those (hold you in) type knickers which were ancient but the elastic went in the end

too much to hold in perhaps

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2010 23:20

ZZZ - why do you want to know what colour the op's knickers are??

ZZZenAgain · 18/06/2010 23:21

becasue my whites wouldn't last 12 years. Maybe she has some trick I don't know about!

hellymelly · 18/06/2010 23:23

the oldest are 80,really.

CatJosephine · 18/06/2010 23:25

I have some 22 year old knickers. Old grey M&S ones. I have no excuse, I wear them regularly.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2010 23:26

Oh zzz, there's no trick with whites. Wash them in a pure white wash only. At 60. Dry in sunlight when you can. Of course I really this is a problem for Mumsnetters who are too shy to put their gigantapants out on the line for fear of the neighbours seeing.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2010 23:28

Isn't anyone going to click on my link?

ZZZenAgain · 18/06/2010 23:28

well I do all that but they don't look white to me for very long

So I'm thinking she maybe has peach or yellow or bright orange...

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/06/2010 23:36

bibbity - i clicked - i hate that g string thing where youve got to show it above your trouser line - they even used to do diamante ones as i remember! i really tried to like g strings but they are just cheese wire by another name

how do you all make your knickers last? sassy - i do the same! all my undies have to match and since i wear a bra for more than one day i also buy 3 pairs of matching knickers.

none of mine are more than a few years old but they do tend to drop to bits - i end up with bits of elastic boinging out

scaryteacher · 18/06/2010 23:48

Some of mine I bought for just after I had ds who is 14 and almost three-quarters. I can still get in them, so either I still haven't lost the baby weight (!) or they stretch.

Sal321 · 19/06/2010 07:34

I'm gutted - I had to bin my millenium pants (M&S sold date stamped pants for the millenium which ended up in a sale). Did I do something wrong for them to only last 10 years?
