to be sitting in the car 'surfing' while dd sleeps in her carseat

She's not been sleeping well because of a horrible cold (neither have I in part because she's hacking all night and in part because I'm hacking all night); she fell asleep while we were out shopping. I didn't have the heart to try to get her into the house and lay her down because then the phlegm would wake her up/ make her cough disrupting her sleep.
So now I'm sitting in the car with the laptop and doors open.
I feel ridiculous.
And I think I need a nap...

NU at all, recline your seat and have a nap yourself!

teaandcakeplease · 17/06/2010 13:31

Been there done that. Being upright in the car seat will help if they're poorly. Leave them be and enjoy the peace for a while

Hope you both get better soon x

NoseyNooNoo · 17/06/2010 13:36

Sounds like sensible behaviour to me.

EnglandAllenPoe · 17/06/2010 13:40

my next doors is often to be found parkd in the drive, toddler aslep in the back reading a book...

NU at all

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 13:43

Good to know I'm not the only nutter

mollymax · 17/06/2010 13:44

I used to do that too, i was often found in the car reading whilst a toddler was sleeping in the back. Enjoy your few minutes of peace

SloanyPony · 17/06/2010 13:45

When I was pregnant and DS fell asleep on the way to a Mothercare trip or similar I reclined my seat and had a nap. I think I probably snored. In the mothercare car park.

YANBU.

whoneedssleepanyway · 17/06/2010 13:46

sounds positively blissful...YANBU

sleeplessinseatle · 17/06/2010 14:26

EnglandAllenPoe

Are you my neighbour? lol

Tillyscoutsmum · 17/06/2010 14:29

I've done this many times with DS. I often think a little Starbucks mobile van would make a bomb going round selling coffees to Mums in cars with sleeping babies

EnglandAllenPoe · 17/06/2010 14:30

i can't snoop you profile, but as i don't live in 'seatle' i doubt it...

withorwithoutyou · 17/06/2010 14:31

Yes I've done this too.

Sometimes with the dog sitting in the passenger seat if we're back from being out for a few hours and she's been left alone

orienteerer · 17/06/2010 14:40

I remember spending hours doing that!

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 16:17

Funny you should say that Tilly...I had a starbucks (went through the drivethru)

KnitterNotTwitter · 17/06/2010 16:22

Did this LOADS with DS. it was often part of the plan for the day (acutally it still is!) Often accompanied with me stuffing a Burger King meal from the drive thru down my throat while DS couldn't nick my chips.

I used to keep a bookin in the car for this express purpose.

It would only be unreasonable if you left DS to sleep in there and went in the house yourself IMO.

shoshe · 17/06/2010 16:23

Oh God you should be outside my place at times, (I am a CM) I can often be found in the car, with up to six kids asleep, I am of course doing paperwork while I wait for them to wake, you would never find me surfing while kids are here (looks around, nope no kids, but bombsite where they were, including Chocolate Birthday cake all over the table)

susiey · 17/06/2010 16:32

no not at all I have taken it one step further - My friend and I and 2 toddler sons go out to a soft play area in the car they fall asleep on the way home ( rare treat!) she parks up outside her house goes to make tea we sit in the car and drink the tea until they either wake or we have to go and pick up their sisters from school

menopausemad · 17/06/2010 16:34

Ha! Brings back memories of driving around in order to get son number one to sleep, than driving to a very quiet layby down a lane with beautiful views. I would then get out of the car, leaving engine running so he did not wake, and have a cigarette whilst trying to muster the energy for the rest of the day. YANBU at all!

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 16:38

You last 3

I used to put Dc3 and DC4 in the car at 2pm, drive to school, park up and we'd all nap until 3pm when the older 2 came out.
great time management in my view

KnitterNotTwitter · 17/06/2010 16:59

iwas.... you're a genius

bebemoohatessnot · 17/06/2010 17:09

oh that IS a good idea Must think how to plan such things into my day.

OP posts:
FrameyMcFrame · 17/06/2010 17:17

yES, done that with my two many times.
Actually, my friend used to leave her dc in the car asleep and just go into the house and get on, coming back to peer at him through the window periodically.
I don't think I would take it that far but I have put the car on the drive with sleeping child in it and sat in the front garden.

Rockbird · 17/06/2010 17:19

Oh God no. I am to be found in the car at least twice a week while dd sleeps. I go in doors and make tea to bring out then sit there with a book. It's blissful

twolittlemonkeys · 17/06/2010 17:22

Been there done that, but not surfing, just reading a book. If DS2 ever gives in and has a much-needed nap I leave him in his car seat and sit with him or put the car right in front of the house and sit inside with a cuppa with my eye on him.
