And then come out with something that has already been discussed or a point that has already been refuted?

Either read the thread (or at least scan it) or stfu.

Thank you.

YABU a bit.

BubbaAndBump · 15/06/2010 16:48

I haven't read the whole thread but yes, I think YABU

tootootired · 15/06/2010 16:48

Depends, if it's seven pages they may have a point

ronx · 15/06/2010 16:51

Yabu. Some of us do have lives outside mumsnet and don't have the time to scroll through endless pages.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 15/06/2010 16:51

Oh well, those posters who do it generally make themselves look a bit daft in the process anyway.

bubba I was expecting that one

OP posts:
diamondsandtiaras · 15/06/2010 16:51

YABU. If a thread is pages and pages long then who's got time to read it all? Certainly not me!

nickelbabe · 15/06/2010 16:53

they put that as an apology just in case they do repeat others.

it's polite you see.

so YABU.

usualsuspect · 15/06/2010 16:56

YABU ...I cba to read all the posts on a long thread ..unless its kicking off

Downdog · 15/06/2010 16:58

does this topic come up ever week? or is it every 5 days?

YABU & very dull

OrmRenewed · 15/06/2010 17:00

Who's got time?

And when you have a vitally important bit of advice or very interesting and original opinion, you have a duty to let others hear it. Regardless of previous posts. And the fact it might have been already said 20 times.

BubbaAndBump · 15/06/2010 17:11

Sorry stuck, couldn't help it

I have to say though, I often read the first page or two of a lonnnnnng thread, then the last two but unless I'm itching to say something crucial/poignant or hilarious (as above ), then I don't post because I'm sure someone else will have already said it.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 15/06/2010 17:12

YABU.

BeenBeta · 15/06/2010 17:17

There was a long politics thread on the upcoming cuts in public spending I wanted to post on last week but it was so long that I did'nt post even though I am very interested in the issue. I didnt post for fear of repeating others.

I just skip over repeated comments and feel at least people are polite enough to apologise if repeating. Sometimes people only have a few minutes between feeds etc and just want to mark their place really.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 15/06/2010 17:17

YABU, people can read however much of the thread they like.

So there.

prettybird · 15/06/2010 17:19

I will sometimes skim a long thread and only really focus on the first few and last few posts - but will still say "I haven't read the whole thread but" becasue I may still be repeating what has been said, jsut 'cos I've only simmed.

It doesn't negate what I've posted though - because that just adds to the "for" or "against" if it's an AIBU thread.

singsinthebath · 15/06/2010 17:25

YANBU
I often don't post because there is nothing new to add.
If a thread goes on for more than 5 pages someone will have expressed your point of view already, unless you are highly original.

unfitmother · 15/06/2010 17:32

YABU and I have read the whole thread!

Rollmops · 15/06/2010 20:16

Haven't read and all that, but you are definitely BU.
Why should we chew through endless arguments pro or con the issue du jour, if the very topic of this particular forum is AIBU; OP is therefore actively canvassing opinions of posters that hopefully help her/him/it decide whether she/he/it was indeed BU.
One should state ones opinion and once done such noble deed, head towards the nearest source of voddie-t.
[heading off...]

McSnail · 15/06/2010 20:24

I don't think you're being that unreasonable. It sort of irks me too, espesh if they go on to slag off OP who has already conceded she MAY have been unreasonable.

I said the same thing on the last thread about this, too.

And no, you're not being unreasonable for failing to know there's been a similar thread.

Over and out.

warthog · 15/06/2010 20:26

yanbu

and i like your style.

mrsruffallo · 15/06/2010 20:28

YABU
Sometimes I pop on here for half an hour. I don't always help time to read the whole thread, and it's polite to admit so

McSnail · 15/06/2010 20:31

I think it's advantageous (on this particular part of Mumsnet) to read or skim-read the whole thread if you plan to write something harsh or self-righteous or sniffy.

That aside, I don't think it's huuuugely important.

warthog · 15/06/2010 20:38

i just read the op and their responses. from that you can pretty much get the gist to post something vaguely reasonable.
