Shaaba me whiskers! I'd say even better than Roald Dahl! Just finished the third one with DS1 (aged 4) and the line about Alan Taylor (a gingerbread man with electric muscles) 'bravely weeing himself in fear' had both of us weeping with laughter. Also when Jonathan Ripples, the fattest man in the world, is lured into the 'Rippleiser' by a line of mince pies and comments, 'It's just like that dream I had. The one with the pies'. My God they are great books! Off to get the rest of the series. Go forth and buy this series now. It is wonderful.

Recommended for young children with a giddy sense of humour and adult League of Gentlemen fans!

Yes they're funty!

If anyone brags about their new kitchen/house whatever I always snigger to myself about Alan Taylor on Boasters Hill showing off his mansion!

I agree these books are amazing. My DS 3,7 love them and are quoting from them every day ! I also will have to write to Andy Stanton that his books basically got my son to pass his 7+ into KCS as the threat of the evil bath fairy doing some pan whacks of he did not write a whole story ( all imagery not going to happen, please don't call social services !) was enough to get him to pull his finger out and do the needful on the day. I even got my three year old to follow hi round the house with a frying pan so he got the message. SOoo much better than nagging which as we know these boys don't listen to anyway . It's zany, brilliant and the most original stuff I've heard in years. Well done ANDY!

My ds loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and is looking for something else to read. Mr Gum was recommended, so I read a bit on Amazon and it's entirely up his street, so will have to give it a go. Smile

Totally love Mr Gum. What's the name of his awful friend, the butcher?

Jinsei · 06/03/2013 23:36

Sheer brilliance! DD loves them!

I once read a review which described Mr Gum as Monty Python for 7 year olds. I reckon that's about right! Grin

I got my niece one last year and my DB hated it at first, and hated me because he had to read it again and again so had to buy a couple more to give himself a break. I got her the rest of the collection for xmas. I don't expect he hates me any less now....

They are sheer genius and we loves them! Amazingly we were given the first by my very Victorian aunt...... Happily it moved my daughter on from her princess phase into a reading anything stage!
