to think that models in ads for mascara should not wear eyelash extensions?

Every single ad for mascara in every single magazine I look at seems to sport a model who clearly has eyelash extensions or enhancements. Some of them you can easily see the place where they are bonded, or start.

Is it just me that feels if you are advertising a product that is supposed to define and enhance your eyelashes, then you should show what that product can do by using it in the ad?

To put eyelash extensions on (which you can't use waterproof mascara with anyway) is just a form of false advertising dont you reckon?

AIBU?

Disclaimer: I realise this is not going to have a major impact on society as a whole, and no, its not the ONLY thing I have to worry about, before anyone says it

Ah, I can see now!

tethersend, that last link is really weird!

sayithowitis · 11/06/2010 18:00

YANBU.

And don't you just love all those skincare adverts where the model slaps the moisturiser on over the top of a full face make-up!

tethersend · 11/06/2010 18:02

Terrifying, isn't it?

Dinkytinky · 11/06/2010 18:18

I hate it too! I have to say though I don't know why some companies bother- maybelline adverta are always ridiculous but I bought their turbo boost mascara and it's AMAZING! I shall never use anythig else. I just don't get why they bother if the product is actually veryvery good?!?!

I promise I don't work for them btw!

Miggsie · 11/06/2010 18:24

Every ad for any beauty product should have a strapline saying "of course, you won't look like this, just give us your money"

Tortington · 11/06/2010 18:27

see i wouldnt need it becuase i am so beautiful with my long lashes. but when i look in a magazine i expect nothing less than foundation that makes you look -airbrushed-- fab and mascara that extends your lashes.

pointydog · 11/06/2010 18:41

yabu

All make-up ads are full of illusion and lies. We should be smart enough to realise that.

BritFish · 11/06/2010 20:38

pointydog, i would have hoped so too, but some of the people you meet these days theres just no hope....

Kaloki · 12/06/2010 10:51

I think it's less to do with believing it, and more to do with trading standards! You cant sell mascara when you are actually showing off false eyelashes, makes no sense.

Stretch · 12/06/2010 23:19

Yes pointydog, we as adults should be smart enough to realise. However teenage girls who are under increasing pressure to look 'perfect' or 'hot' don't realise it and they will buy the stuff.

coffeefestival · 12/06/2010 23:47

YANBU. However the eyelash extensions probably aren't the main reason most of us ordinary mortals don't look like the models in the photos

Fibilou · 13/06/2010 06:06

Britfish, I thought that was very brave of Britney Spears to do that - and I think she still looks fantastic in the untouched photo - even hours of airbrushing couldn't make me look like that

JackBauerDeservedAHappyEnding · 13/06/2010 07:35

Tether, those are hysterical.

HAve you all seen tha Dove Evolution video?

And This airbrushing
Shoudl be compulsory viewing for all teenage girls imo.

JackBauerDeservedAHappyEnding · 13/06/2010 18:10

NO-one cares about my vids?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 21:23

Jack - those are amazing. It has really surprised me the extent to which it is possible to airbrush - I really had no idea. And you are right - it really should be compulsory viewing

< pats Jack on the head in non-patronising fashion >

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 21:23

I really should learn to use "really" more in my posts ....

JackBauerDeservedAHappyEnding · 13/06/2010 21:47

You really should

If you search airbrushin 'fat to thin' on youtube there are hundreds

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 22:00

I'm going to mention this to my friends who have daughters. I think there is so much pressure on girls now to be thin, sex-pots and clever.

And when the time comes - I'll let my son's know about this bullshit. Really

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 22:00

son's ????? sons
