Lol Morloth, it's called "quiet morning time" in my house!

My dad used to send me down the shop for ciggies when I was about 10. This was the mid 90's aswell!

Liking the wine opening, shall start showing DS how it's done.

kickassangel · 09/06/2010 19:59

my dniece was about 4 when she would get a beer & pour it for her dad when chelsea were playing. it didn't take her much longer to think about getting a second, smaller, glass for herself.
now she's 10 she just says 'get it yourself' when he asks her for a beer.

Alouiseg · 09/06/2010 20:41

Very important life skill.

FellatioNelson · 09/06/2010 22:01

I have my older two schooled in how to pour me a decent G&T. Was just wondering this evening whether it was reasonable to start to training up the 10 year old.

clam · 09/06/2010 22:11

God, no. My two could open wine almost before they could walk. Vital life skill, I think. Blow all this teaching them to read malarkey.

Alouiseg · 09/06/2010 22:25

It's grapes, they need to know how you can process bits of your 5 a day.

campocaro · 09/06/2010 22:31

My DD made me a cup of tea for the first time this week-she has just learnt how to light the gas and although we are still hovering when she pours the kettle it is a step forward!

Quattrocento · 09/06/2010 22:34

Sadly mine have learned to cork the bottle and take it away from me

They do both make really good coffee though and are encouraged to do this every morning (apart from the anti-socially early starts)

toccatanfudge · 09/06/2010 22:37

well I must confess this story is true - but I started the thread in response to a post on my FB from a friend of mine who revealed in the chat about the status update that she is registered here on MN but only lurks.......

I was trying to draw her in - but it failed - she's still not posting

DS has been able to bring wine from the fridge and a glass for ages, but only mastered making cups of tea unsupervised quite recently. Because it's a new skill he prefers it, so we get -

Me: Can you get me a glass of wine please?
DS: Don't you want tea?
Me: No thanks, darling. Wine would be lovely though.
DS: I'll make you some tea.

kickassangel · 10/06/2010 02:46

but if you pour it yourself you can make sure it's a really BIG glass.

thesunshinesbrightly · 10/06/2010 05:32

Ashcloud - made me go awwww out loud, what a little sweetie your DS sounds.

sunnydelight · 10/06/2010 05:52

My 16 year old told me the other day that I was setting a bad example when I asked my 11 year old to bring his dad's glass of wine to him in the other room

skihorse · 10/06/2010 06:53

YABU - I think it's absolutely disgusting. I can't believe everyone is in absolute raptures about this.

Shelpit · 10/06/2010 09:54

Back in the early 70s I would take an empty quart beer bottle to the local pub and they would fill it up with my Dads favorite beer - this was mainly on Sat afternoons when he was watching the footy, and I would get his baccy too!

Morloth · 10/06/2010 09:58

I can remember buying my Dad's tobacco. It was the one in the yellow packet. I still tear up when I smell a pipe (not very often now). Love the rich chocolatey smell of a pipe or maybe I just miss my Dad?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/06/2010 10:05

DD makes me coffee using the machine, she is able to open the bottles of beer we buy from the brewery and knows where the corkscrew(s) are kept. She is unable to manipulate the corksrews and is definitely not allwed near boiling water. Clumsy is her middle name. So while I can have cofee and beer her dad misses out on tea (and wine).

porcamiseria · 10/06/2010 10:31

can they roll her a spliff too?

MissPopOff · 10/06/2010 12:19

I am uncomfortable with this, how old are the DC's in question? Would you get them to light your fag too??? YABU

toccatanfudge · 10/06/2010 12:21

oldest is

toccatanfudge · 10/06/2010 12:22

actually duh! no - I've just read the bit I copied and pasted that she asked me to post (as she's too scared to stop lurking and start on AIBU) and her oldest is 111, youngest is 7

and I'm a little at the letting them light your fag comment.

not really the same is it? Substitute wine for coffee, tea, other favourite beverage and it's pouring a drink and sweetening them (parents) up. Hugely different from lighting a fag.

toccatanfudge · 10/06/2010 12:25

you must be old then ruby
