soooo pissed off right now.
have been informed by my brother that his missus has been having a gander at my messages on mumsnet.
i am like 'how can she do that when she doesnt know my password'?
he explained that all she did was type in my nickname on yahoo search, that she did know because we have chatted on here before, then mumsnet and voila, it took her to every conversation and message ive written
i was gobsmacked...to say the laest.
what is the point of having a password if any tom dick and harry can get in so easily?
god...even facebook is safer!!!!

she does sound like a freaky stalker-type? why bother?

sad cow.

Bumperlicious · 07/06/2010 18:22

Nah, don't worry kickarsequeen, they'd have to trawl through a zillions posts to find that, and I have various name changes so I'm not worried. To be honest, I'm not even that worried, I guess it's just a bit freaky to feel that someone could read ALL of your posts at once by knowing your username. Thanks for the concern though

verytellytubby · 07/06/2010 18:56

Don't tell anyone your username! Simples.

I've very aware anyone would be reading so I don't write anything I don't want the whole world to know.

BessieBoots · 07/06/2010 19:11

Um, how does one namechange?

JaneS · 07/06/2010 19:21

Actually, yes, how does one name-change? I tried earlier but it tells me I'm already registered to that email address - don't tell me I need to set up multiple addresses do I?

Anyway, meant to say: I don't understand why people get so bothered about RL associates reading what they've said. Granted there are some cases where it would be very bad - a boss, an abusive partner, the person you cheated on, etc. But half the time people seem upset about their MIL or sister reading an AIBU. Frankly, I can't imagine why anyone would care enough.

If anyone I knew saw my random irritations about them, I wouldn't be too chuffed but I wouldn't care very much either. That is why I post them to a load of strangers on a public forum.

Out of curiosity, why does anyone need to be able to search all of anyones posts? I can undestand MNHQ needing to do that for trolling purposes and to check on whats being said on the boards at times, nut why anyone else?

squeaver · 07/06/2010 21:02

I love this thread.

kickarsequeen It's a standard feature of forums.

Gigantaur · 07/06/2010 21:21

did you think MN was some secret society then? did you thyink all your posts were hidden in a special vault that only you could see?

think you need to get a grip

KickArseQueen · 07/06/2010 21:22

kaloki Yeah.... but why?

Why is it necessary?

The feature doesn't have to be there, can't we vote on whether we want it or not? It is very exposing....

JaneS · 07/06/2010 21:25

Thanks usualsuspect.

usualsuspect · 07/06/2010 21:25

it keeps the troll hunters happy

AhLaVache · 07/06/2010 21:26

You're not making ANY sense.

The Yahoo thing doesn't turn up the results you suggested it did.

You say you are amazed that a non-member can read your messages....but in your op you say that your sil is a member.

So many questions...
