about what other people wear, really need to get a hobby.

I can't see how anyones choice of clothes/body mods affect anyone else? It doesn't cause harm, and doesn't mean it will be forced upon anyone else, what does it matter?

hurrah

JaxTellersOldLady · 31/05/2010 14:54

eh? what do you mean?

YABU I am not sure i understand your post.

DuelingFanjo · 31/05/2010 14:54

everyone appreciates aesthetics don't they?

BritFish · 31/05/2010 14:56

YANBU Kaloki!
its like the banning of crazy hair colours and visible tattoos/piercings in the workplace. it implies that the way you look effects the way you work and your professionalism, and it doesnt send out any positive messages about accepting those different from yourself!

happyland · 31/05/2010 14:58

It doesn't matter, but everyone is entitled to opinion and to express it if they wish.

bearcrumble · 31/05/2010 14:58

I judge people on their clothes but I don't 'care' about what they wear.

YABU

The people who claim that they don't care - at all - are either totally enlightened and asexual - or lying.

It's not possible to not care. It's possible judge very rarely and keep it to yourself (it may even be possible not to judge but you have to care. It's a biological imperative. Peacocks and their feathers.

bearcrumble · 31/05/2010 14:59

Oh, this is about Gichin's post. Ignore her, she's a bit simple.

cheesesarnie · 31/05/2010 14:59

True maamruby, but enough to get worked up about?

normalitybites I can honestly say I don't care.

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 31/05/2010 15:05

riven-i think i need a cup of tea now to get over it!

mamas12 · 31/05/2010 15:07

Of course everyone cares. Even the ones who say they don't care by wearing something that demonstrates they don't care.

We all present an external image of some sort to represent what we feel we are and what we want to say about ourselves to the world.

There's no way around it.

But I do do agree with some peoples sneering at what you wear if that's what you mean.
And from personal experience the sneerer was a beautiful woman down playing her garb to me who was fairly well dressed for an 'occasion'
Reverse snobbery in her case.

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 15:09

"Even the ones who say they don't care by wearing something that demonstrates they don't care."

I agree with you on that, though it's not actually what I was talking about.

I don't care what anyone else wears. I care what I wear. But that's it really. Wouldn't moan at someone else for wearing something that wasn't my taste.

OP posts:
mamas12 · 31/05/2010 15:13

Exactly but you would be silently even unconsiously judging them

It's what we do BUT whether we act on that judgment is another thing.

TheBride · 31/05/2010 15:17

With a few exceptions I agree with you, the exceptions being when what you're wearing shows a disregard or disrespect for other people.

eg deliberately ignoring dress codes on formal invitations / ignoring dress conventions in places of worship.

However, I sense you weren't really thinking on those lines- more people sneering at other people because they're doing the school run in trackie-b's and flip flops and not top to toe Joseph.

tiredntetchy · 31/05/2010 15:22

I don't care what other people wear but i do uncounciously make a judgement on them.

I think how people dress says alot about them.

For example i would be drawn to people who wear stuff i like but not to people who wear stuff i find hideous like tight stretchy lycra in neon colours, oh and lots of bright pink yuk.

I also like naturalish looking people not those plastered in make up and perfect highlighted high maintenance type hair.

cheesesarnie · 31/05/2010 15:23

i do judge-although i try desperatly not too.but i also know that i enjoy looking like a over dressed fairy at times and that people will judge me.but thats ok with me!

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 15:25

No, I wasn't thinking of those TheBride, and that's a fair point.

I was thinking of the sneerers, and worse. I've had far too many friends beaten up because someone decided that what they are wearing is "wrong". And sneering about other people's clothes is just the thin edge of the wedge as far as I am concerned.

For example, sneering at body piercings. May seem a valid view to some people, but then you have to bear in mind that you are putting yourself into the same category as the blokes who tried to forcibly remove my lip piercing when I was younger. It's not acceptable, but talking as if a difference in appearance is justifiable reason to treat someone as lesser in anyway is enabling twats like that to justify their violence.

OP posts:
Morloth · 31/05/2010 15:34

YANBU.

I take the view that if I am wearing something then it looks good, because it is me wearing it.

Kaloki · 31/05/2010 15:35

morloth I love that!

YANBU. Very well said!

Clothes are for keeping warm and comfortable. What clothes look like is irrelevant and I think the huge amount of attention given to what people wear is a massive waste of time.
