to not want this woman to visit me in hospital

My father-in-law's wife is a bit of an unsavory character. In a few weeks I'll be giving birth to my first child and I really don't want her visiting me in hospital. She will say something inappropriate and spiteful and ruin the birth aftermath. I don't want my first ever birth experience to be tainted by her.

I'd rather not go into detail. Suffice to say that every single time I have seen her she has said something to make me feel uncomfortable. The birth will be no exception.

Problem is, whereas I don't know the woman that well, she is my husband's father's wife. My husband has a strained relationship with his father. He is tryng to rebuild this relationship. I know that if she is not invited to the hospital then his father will not come. My husband will not be happy about this.

Thoughts?

I'm normally a complete doormat and end up resenting the comprimises I make.

I'm 33wks and have decided this is the one time I HAVE to be selfish.

I have told my DH that the only person I want at the hospital is him. Not his parents, not my parents, no friends.
We will then have the grandparents round at our place at some point in the first couple of days home. Even then, we've discussed that if any of them p* me off, I will go upstairs for some rest.

Think hospitals like to get rid of you in 6-12 hours these days, so they won't have to wait long.

Good luck.x.

Zipzap - I LOVE your toxic bingo idea!

Recruit your nursing staff to be with you during her visit. And get them to order rest for you after 5 mins, and kick her out.

Best of luck, and so sorry to hear of all the things that have happened to other posters - some people have no clue how horrible and insensitive they are being.
