what if baby starts to choke and is too small to push it away?

Could it push it away?

How sad is it that people don't want to take the time to sit and cuddle and feed their babies, insttead they stick ithe bottle on a metal stick and force it into babies mouth?!

Joined up to point out that for a disabled parent who has problems with grip this could be really useful, you can still coo and fuss over the baby while it's feeding. I think it would be a bad idea to leave a baby unattended with it but you shouldn't assume that someone who uses one of these will do that.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/05/2010 21:46

That's a very good point, Pseudo.

MmeLindt · 30/05/2010 21:51

There are always going to be uses for a product like this that most would find acceptable. No doubt that for disabled parents or parents of twins it would be a handy thing to have, or for the occasional time when you have to feed on the move.

My fear would be that these would be the minority and most people who use this would use it often, which would not be good for the baby and could even be dangerous.

citybranch · 30/05/2010 22:45

This item was bought for me 8 months ago by the way, so the fact that this is the first you've all heard of it kind of indicates that it is not exactly flying off the shelves. So maybe people DO like to feed their own babies?

Do you see them on your high street? No.

Does anybody know a parent who uses one of these all the time, because they are too lazy to feed their own baby? No.

Not worth getting het up about.

There are enough people on this thread who would have had good legitimate use for one. The 'lazy young mothers' will be lazy whether or not they own this product. They'll dump the child in a playpen all day and feed it crisps for breakfast, and the existence of a bottle holder won't change that.

scottishmummy · 30/05/2010 22:48

you dont have to explain yourself or your purchases.

liahgen66 · 30/05/2010 22:52

they had these at the baby show last November at Earls Court, myself and my friend were gobsmacked and told the seller in no uncertain terms, she wasn't quite expecting that I don't think.

SirBoobAlot · 30/05/2010 23:02

Could we stop with the lazy young mums thing? After SweetMuffs darling thread yesterday am a bit sick of it.

MilaMae · 30/05/2010 23:05

Hmmm I would have gladly eaten my own hair to have one of those when my twins were born then 15 months later when dd was born.

Would have saved a whole lot of grief when trying to feed dd whilst attempting to stop my toddler boys from doing serious damage to themselves.

RedOnHerHead · 30/05/2010 23:08

OMG and it's not even a wind-up! Thought this was a leg pull! There was something out like this years ago, and I'm sure it caused lots of incidents. However, the amount of babies I see in prams with a bottle propped up by blankets, makes me shudder every time i see it. Pure lazyness if you ask me.

RedOnHerHead · 30/05/2010 23:10

I hate the "lazy young mothers" line too - In my experience, all the young mothers I know have done an amazing job with their babies - it's as if they have a point to prove - they are fab! I know plenty of older mothers who could do with a few tips from the young ones I know!

citybranch · 30/05/2010 23:17

I was referencing the earlier comments/stereotypes on the thread, 'faggy young mums' etc.

I became a mother at 23 and now I've advertised a 'vile' bottle holder on MN and a whole thread started.

I know what you mean, am a bit sick of it myself!

scottishmummy · 30/05/2010 23:22

dont sweat it,the righteous indignation is ott.now go beat yourself with said vile implement, and have a fag

citybranch · 30/05/2010 23:27

But RedOnHerHead (and others earlier on, not just you)...

the babies you see drinking from bottles propped up on blankets.. are they just leisurely being pushed around the shops etc?

If you had seen me, in full train drivers uniform with massive heavy bag (hi visability orange) on my back (containing a metal hand lamp, radio, defect manuals etc) running down the road to nursery pushing a buggy with one of these bottle holders attached, sweat literally pouring down my face (summer time, just had 90 mins to get home from work on train during rush hour)...

would you have shuddered and thought 'pure laziness'?

I bet you would have thought, look at that poor cow running down the road laden like pack horse.

It really isn't as simple 'laziness' as you say!

citybranch · 30/05/2010 23:30

thank you scottishmummy, you are so right. I won't sweat it.

Goodnight all! I'll freecycle the thing tomorrow then...

RedOnHerHead · 30/05/2010 23:38

citybranch - yes they are normally just leisurely strolling through the shops, but I would still shudder at seing a bottle attached to one of those things.... sorry, but I would. Busy and rushing and all. I can't help that I don't like the idea of them. the baby could wait an extra few minutes to be fed, nobody is too busy to feed a baby surely? (that was a question not an accusation - I'm pretty much a full time mum of two, so I'm not used to the whole busy baby/work thing. I work in the mornings before DH and children wake up.

scottishmummy · 30/05/2010 23:38

given its notoriety id double the price

RedOnHerHead · 30/05/2010 23:40

and sorry if I offended you citybranch - i have never seen one of these (apart from the one i saw from many years ago) and I honestly thought it was a wind up. I didn't mean my comment to offend and thinking back it probably did. Apologies.

scottishmummy · 30/05/2010 23:42

lady train driver!i just twigged the citybranch ref

thumbwitch · 31/05/2010 02:15

TBH, I don't think the website that was originally linked helped - if it had been offered on a website dedicated to products designed to help people with multi-birth DC, or people with any kind of disability, I doubt it would have got as vehement a response as it did.

The "yummimummi" website certainly contributed strongly to my negative feelings about it.

WingedVictory · 31/05/2010 10:42

Looks like birthing stirrups! Ugh.

misdee · 31/05/2010 10:44

hmm it could be used to attach toys to that they want to grab but keeo chucking over the side.

misdee · 31/05/2010 10:49

these are worse imo

SirBoobAlot · 31/05/2010 11:04

Oh God, Misdee those are horrible!

chegirlmonkeybutt · 31/05/2010 18:12

Now I like them
