I went to my local market the other day.

It has been infested with stalls selling silly little pink cakes for a £1 each.

Well "selling" is a misnomer here, it was more a case of a bored women standing behind a table with cakes on. Not much selling happening.

There were at least four stalls doing this.

Look, I'm all for women starting businesses etc but this is getting silly.

You could convert me with a lemon cheesecake one

capstone they were my best sellers. The recipe is top secret**But involves piping lemon curd (preferably home made natch) into the middle of a plain cupcake and then topping with philidelphia combined with icing sugar and lemon juice and zest.

I know five women who have set up their own cupcake business.

I didn't know cupcakes were in such demand. I've never felt the need for cupcakes. I like a huge fat gateau myself.

Every 2 weeks I make 75 cupcakes, decorate them and sell them at a cake stall in the school playground. I have it down to such a fine are that I can do 75 in 2 hours 30 minutes. And I make £65 for school funds. Last week's stall bought a willow teepee for the Reception playground. The next one will pay for a box of playground games. What's not to like?

interestingly the local m&s has just stopped doing it's expensive cupcakes

no one compels you to buy the overpriced glutinous cakes
