To think that babies should not eat macdonalds?

Ok I went shopping and popped into MacDonalds on the way home for a drink and a filet of fish, while there I got out a high chair and fed my baby some solids (that I had bought with me).

Next table across I see a baby who at a guess looked about 8-9 months old in a high chair - and see that she is being fed french fries, lemonade and chicken nuggets?? I was very shocked at this - at one point I heard the parents say come on now, finish your lemonade as they fed it cup like to her?

.. and yes I have decided not to go anymore as I obviously am not setting my child a good example.

.. out of interest those of you who have children, what was the youngest age that your children had french fries??
.. is it common practice??

Oh, I judge everyone and everything, constantly and as a result have a very low opinion of my fellow men/women/farm animals/etc [rollseyes]
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm sure that most of us who find fast food rather appalling would gladly munch on McDee et al monster 'food' if starving, well, hey, we'd probably nibble happily away on our neighbours as well if stranded in Andes or similar.
However, to view the FF industry as a body that holds its customers health and welfare in high regard, is beyond ridiculous.

stuck is that comment directed at me?

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 11:53

Has anyone said that they believe that Rollmops? I haven't seen that.

I think this is a myth though, if you have little money it costs more to eat at mcdonalds than it would to buy lots of vegetables and certain types of meat and cook fresh. A huge pan of soup would probably cost you a pound and it would feed at least 4 people. A cottage pie would cost you 3 pound and would feed 4 people. A pack of good quality liver only costs £1.50 and is amazingly nutritious. I understand that a lot of people have been actively taught not to cook and to eat ready meals, but all it takes is a simple to use recipe book and a trip to the local market and a bit of practice. Even if you dont have a market the supermarkets are reasonably cheap (though not as cheap as the city markets).

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 11:56

Liver? Why would you want to eat liver?

Ben281 · 29/05/2010 11:56

And this is an amazing thing to do with your kids also, get them learning to cook because it is a vital skill for people on low incomes.

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 11:57

I find that people tend to eat McDonalds when they're out. I'd rather not sit in the middle of Glasgow city centre making soup.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 11:57

Oh don't be daft Ben, we can't say things like that in case those who do choose to eat MacDonalds get upset... can't have that!

KodakTheBat · 29/05/2010 11:58

FFS Ben281 - "only oppurtunity to eat OUT"

'all it takes is a simple to use recipe book and a trip to the local market and a bit of practice.'

Ah well jee thanks, I'll don me nicest tracksuit and head to Asda now shall I?

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 11:58

And yes I do know there are other restaurants, but McDonalds for most seems to be an occasional treat when out,and there's nothing wrong with that imho.

Of course eating it reguarly is a bad idea and I realise that some people do just that.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 11:59

So there is nowhere except MacDonalds to eat in the centre of a large, British city?

KodakTheBat · 29/05/2010 12:00
porcamiseria · 29/05/2010 12:00

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 12:00

See below,or above depending on how you're viewing Mumsnet.

I eat McDonalds very rarely. Once every 3 months I'd say but I enjoy it when I do and I wouldn't feel bad if I ate it more often than that.

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 12:01

Are you suggesting I'm a bit of a witch Kodak

posieparker · 29/05/2010 12:01

Nowhere cheap and fast, aside from other fastfood places/mall type food chains.

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 12:02

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 29/05/2010 12:03

Hey, you and your kids can eat all the immoral shite you like. However, I'm not going to tell you that it's a good thing.

KodakTheBat · 29/05/2010 12:03

LTBR

LetThereBeRock · 29/05/2010 12:03

I love chicken liver pate. It's one of my favourite foods but I couldn't eat calf or lamb liver. It's vile imho.

It's not squeamishness. I just don't like the taste.
