To think that a 6 year old's party could have been some other date than Father's Day?

DS has been invited to his best friend's party which falls on Father's Day. It's between 11 and 1 so just when we would go for lunch as a family (DH loves Sunday pub lunch). Can't refuse the invite as DS has been looking forward to the party for ages and can't wait to go, but the invite only got handed out today and stupidly I'd said he could go before getting the invite .

AIBU to think it's a bit of a rubbish date?

I don't understand why people do children's parties over lunch time anyway. It means you can't do very much else during the day, which you could if it was in the morning or later in the afternoon and as an adult you are left standing starving or trying to munch on children's party food.

I'm in the cupboard off your hallway.

Bear pit? This thread? Really??? I thought it was pretty boring tame.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/05/2010 20:38

No, not this thread, I said AIBU (meaning in general). tell me it's not. I dare you!

piscesmoon · 26/05/2010 20:39

I don't even know the date of Father's Day this year so it wouldn't bother me! It wouldn't even have entered my head if I had a child's birthday party to arrrange. It is just commercial.

withorwithoutyou · 26/05/2010 20:40

Oh.

I agree Hecate.

People are arguing and getting personal about fruit shoots on here today.

Unbelievable.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/05/2010 20:41

About fruit shoots? really? Where?

I don't understand why people do children's parties over lunch time anyway.

I always arrange childrens parties around a mealtime so that they actually want to eat some of hte party food.

Some soft play places etc also don't give you a choice especially if you want exclusive hire.

withorwithoutyou · 26/05/2010 20:43

Here

I haven't actually read the thread, just clicked on it because I couldn't believe a thread about fruit shoots had mustered that many responses.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/05/2010 20:44

I clicked so fast I think I broke a finger

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 26/05/2010 20:44

Actually we make a huge fuss of Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's, our birthdays, anniversaries. If one of them clashed with something else, probably with the exception of birthdays, we'd just work round it. Have a lovely brunch or something.

Kupugani · 26/05/2010 20:46

Excellent. I shall wade in there with well worded abuse and criticism. That will make me feel better.

Far more importantly: 20th June is the birthday of Mr Gorgeous, namely John Taylor of Duran Duran. Now that is definitely a reason to turn down a party invitation.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/05/2010 20:49

I wouldn't advise it unless you slip this on and wade in with this

They're bloody scary in there. It made me want to hide behind me mam

porcamiseria · 26/05/2010 21:45

its an american tradition, so YABU

gerontius · 26/05/2010 22:13

Why can't you just go for lunch at 1:30?
